What zooms are people using on their MKIII? I've looked at the f/2.8 24-70mm for both Canon and Tamron and there doesn't seem much difference other than price between them
Well the Tamron has VC, in my book thats a huge difference
I too was coming from a 17-55IS f/2.8 on a crop and to me the Tamron is the closest we will get on FF at the moment.
I do believe f/2.8 on a crop is about the same as f/4 on FF though so f/2.8 isnt needed to equal the 17-55 if ive got that right, but its a definite plus point if you do and i got mine as i do have a wedding to do this year, and wanted as much help in low light as i could get.

:shrug:I just use my 35l, 85l Sigma 50mm 1.4 70-200 F4 non IS and last but not least my 100l.
I'm not sure I need the 24-70 although it would be handy for gig photography in small pubs.
I think its something to do with equivalent DOF rather than anything else.

I had my first proper shoot last Saturday morning with my 5D MK3, overall very pleased, had what seems something a bit odd happen, right or wrong I use the focus on an eye, half press then re compose, whilst focusing using centre spot only the red square stopped lighting up, it was still focusing as I could see it lock in, but no red flash from the focus point, if I turned away from the model and pointed the camera at a black poster that was on the wall the focus spot flashed as I would expect. Any ideas what was going on ?

Hello Dave, thanks for answering.
I could see it was focusing as it went sharp when button half pressed, but for some reason when I half pressed although I could see the image come into focus the af point did not flash at all. Just took the camera out of its bag to give it a try, centre af point lighting up every time, maybe just an odd combination of light or conditions I was shooting in, I cannot see why it would affect it, I was shooting in a rectangular room with two windows to my left, it was quite a bright day, shooting with the natural light they gave. Here is one of the pics in the room.

Spiritflier said:The AF system is complicated but relatively straightforward to use once you get your head around a few things. Of the six 'cases', I generally use the first one but the others get used depending on what's in front of me.
Here's an example from last week that really pushes the AF...

Have fun with it... It's a great camera!
