Question - Does the focus point not light up red anymore when you achieve focus? I use that to tell me it has hit focus rather than the beep.

i'm afraid not, Ray. You can turn on VF illumination, but it's not quite the same, all the focus points light up.
The big day is here and I picked up my MK III this morning - thanks Kerso!
I took a few shots in the house before having to leave for work. I did not own the MK II and have upgraded now from the 7D. I love the soft touch wheel - however when the shutter releases it is quite noisy and sounds very mechanical. Is that normal? Probably is - but just thought I'd check.
Can't wait to get home tonight to take it for the proverbial test drive![]()
The shutter noise is a bit strange but you soon get used to it. Silent mode is awesome though, in a silent way...
yes VF is the one you want. it depends on what focus points you have visible when focussing, if you have them all visible then all will flash red, but if you choose the third option in "AF point display during focus" then only the selected focus point is visible and flashes red
I've only chosen crossed points visible.

and when you enable VF illumination - you don't get the red flash on focus?
I have (probably a silly) question: when I look through my viewfinder I can see a smaller second view at the bottom below the proper view finder. Is this normal?? I really have to position my eye very carefully not to see it - and I find it quite distracting to be honest![]()
A smaller second view of what? The VF image?
Definitely not normal. I just tried to recreate anything like that and couldn't. You may well have a problem there.
Yes - it is the same as the VF image - just a lot smaller and darker - just below the actual VF image. It is almost as if I can see the mirror, if that is at all possible??
It sounds like a reflection of something, can't think what though.
Where did you get it from? I would suggest it is worth exchanging as it certainly doesn't sound normal.
I got it from Kerso - just sent him an email to ask about it. Really gutted as the Jubilee weekend in London is the perfect weekend to take the new camera for a spin![]()

Still nowhere near the 90mb/s of compact flash cards.
Quick google Class 10 cards are 10mb/s
I have in my 5D3 90mb/s CF and 95mb/s SD I'll confess it may be the other way round
but that's was you get if you by quality, and that doesn't have to be that expensive either if you shop around I have (probably a silly) question: when I look through my viewfinder I can see a smaller second view at the bottom below the proper view finder. Hi all
Thanks for checking in on this. I just noticed that I can see it on my 7D as well - although not as obvious. I must have been looking through the viewfinder funnily.
Phew - I feel so much better nowLet the photographing begin

shot a whole bunch of images in raw on my new mk3 using a 16g sandisk and could not download as they were corrupted. message came up 'some data missing'
wondering if this is a fault with the camera or card
the card has been in use for some months before without any problem
any ideas

I second shot a wedding at the weekend with a mark2 and a mark3. I just went through the shots I kept and looked at how many I kept from each camera and pretty much it was even. I thought I would get more keepers from my mark 3
Thats in stark contrast to when I have done 2 toddler shoots and 75 to 80% of the keepers came from the mark 3. At the wedding the subjects were mainly still and so I didn't have to rely on the much improved focus of the mark 3, so i got just as many keepers as my mark 2.
During the toddler shoots I got so many more in focus with the mark 3 because kids just move around so much more. I think if I was doing weddings as my main earner I would probably have just stuck with two mark 2's.
