I purchased a 55-250 MK II from Amazon (it was actually from Buya UK Ltd but fulfilled by Amazon) about 10 days ago for £141. It arrived in a plain white box with no manual.
Little bit annoyed by it as the order description did not make it clear that it was a white box version.
It was £59 cheaper than actually ordering it direct from Amazon so I can't complain, but if you are ordering from an Amazon seller it's worth checking with the seller if you want the Canon box and manual.
I've tried it on my 600D (although not as much as I would have liked!) and I'll answer your questions with my experiences with the lens so far.
Build quality?
Your info says that you have a 600D with the 18-55mm kit lens. The build quality of the 55-250mm MK II is exactly the same as the kit lens.
It may be plastic but it feels solid enough. The focus ring is reassuringly firm and doesn't drop down under its own weight when being carried. It's not too heavy that it gives you neck ache 5 minutes after carrying it around but it does have a tendency to make the camera swing more when walking!
Overall, I have no gripes with it.
Image quality?
Excellent. Although I've not given it much use yet the tester shots I took at varying lengths I was more than happy with.
Value for money?
Outstanding value for money. If you pick it up for £140ish it's an absolute bargain for the performance it brings. Although I don't have a vast experience with a wide range of lenses I very much doubt that this lens can be beaten on quality for the price.
Alternatives within the price bracket?
None that I am aware of!
I would highly recommend this lens.
