I'm quite new to photography, and i own a 50mm f1.8 lens, the nifty fifty. For a holiday trip, i wish to be able to take photos of my friends (group shots) and I find the canon 50mm f1.8 to be "zoomed" on my 600D. Should I get a wide-angle adapter for my lens(like the one on photojojo) or the 40mm f2.8, or any other walk around lenses that you can recommend? I'm looking for a small and portable lens. I'm on a tight budget and not really willing to spend much considering I have a zoom lens(from the kit lens) which is quite bulky for my travel.

It's a 18-135mm lens, a bit too bulky to be carried around. Would a wide angle converter on the 50mm lens work?
Do you recommend other lenses? Or ways to make the 50mm less zoomed?

Wide-angle adapters are not great :thumbsdown:
If compact size and affordable cost are priorities, then the 18-55 kit zoom is going to be hard to beat. But obviously duplicates most of your 18-135 range, which might be quite big, but it's not very heavy.
What's your budget?
About 400? I'm not really keen on carrying the 18-135 because I'll be on the go, and wouldn't want to carry too bulky items. The 50mm would have been a good choice but the crop sensor on the 600D makes the view really zoomed, i was hoping the 40mm would have been a better choice

If you want to see what a 40mm angle of view looks like, put your 18-135mm lens on the camera and set the zoom ring to 40mm (or there abouts). It gives a slightly wider view than the 50mm but not by much. Maybe a used 28mm lens would be more appropriate, and would be within your budget.

Set your 18-135 to 40mm, compare to 50mm, and see if that's wide enough for you. If so, then the 40mm a great little lens and there's nothing else quite like it. In terms of bulk/weight, kit 18-55 zoom comes closest.
Or consider buying another travel camera, ie a compact. Very portable and versatile, at the expensive of some image quality (may be less than you think

Well, i think you bought the wrong camera. If you want something small and light, maybe you should check the mirrorless cameras. Same sensor, smaller package.
