I bought the 28mm when, like you, I didn't find the 50mm wide enough. It's a great lens, with amazing bokeh, although it's sharper from around f2.2 onwards.
is it useable below f2.2? as it would want to use it at f/1.8 or f/2
I was between the Canon 28mm f1.8 and the Sigma 30mm f1.4
After testing both I went for the Sigma and sis not regret it one bit.

Everytime I pick it up I KNOW its going to produce a very nice image.
Everytime I pick it up and use it I am even more impressed than I expected to be!
Cant beat that IMO
would be interested to know how these two lwenses perferm on FF, generally it will be shallow DOF so corners is not too much of an option but light fall off and distortion i would like to know.
So if the Sigma lens is a DC lens (designed for crop sensor same as EF-S?) does that mean :-
30mm = 30mm
or is it
30mm x 1.6 = 48mm
sorry for confusion:bonk:
I bought this a while second hand of here, great lens well built and image quality is great. This has made me upgrade my 50mm 1.8 to the 1.4 for the USM and build quality.
Can't comment much on how sharp it is at 1.8 mind you, i shoot a lot of mountain biking and usually use 2.8 at the lowest for DOF reasons and so i dont miss focus.
35mm f2 is also a good lens by all accounts...
