I see it only as a good thing canon are giving us a camera which is capable of, finally, beating the D3.
A picture paying for camera?... Try a mansion for a bit of shock...
Wow, an expensive beast. I'll stick to Sony for that price thanks.
I'm on about a day-to-day / weekly basis, there simply isn't that kind of money anymore except for very rare exclusives. MOST people can't afford to gamble on that. Even the full time celeb paps.
You just need to be in the right place at the right time.
I was at a div 2 football match last week. (johnston paint trophy match actualy.. never much interest) . not a big earner... a player got injured and the match was abandoned
the action images photogrpaher was at the other side of the pitch and i was this side... he got a front-on pic of the player being injured and i got the back of it... his front faces picture went global.. every national in this country and loads of coverage around europe..
had the seating been reversed i would have made enough for a new camera just from that one picture thats still being used now...just by being sat in the right place.. instead i get the daily mirror website (still there)
. Admittedly, is more than one picture but, still, it is a multi £££££ deal I've got by being in the right place at the right time.Big assumption - yet to be proven that it will actually be better than the D3s .... be interesting when real world full res images become available
Finally should have been in italicsI've been looking at the D3 since it came out and wishing Canon did something similar. my 1dsmk3 is fine, but it has it's limitations, it's really easy to fill up the buffer, not great at 3200 and the fps leaves a lot to be desired and who really needs, out of all of the 1ds mk3 users, 21mpx?? Bet it's a tiny percentage....
depends what you want, if the 1.3 crop is more handy then full frame theres no choice but the 1dmk4 i cant see dropping in price that much.Oh bolleux just about to by 1d mk 4 literally tomorrow and I see this... whats a man to do, save the extra pennies or wait and see if the mk 4 price drops.. do you think it will cause a price drop for the mk 4 ????
either way cant risk buying a mk 4 in the near future.
When you have to do 30 feet tall prints for big exhibitions halls, the megapixel count becomes very important indeed .
I certainly needed those 21Mpx and more (hence the h4D 60). Moreover, I don't know of any working photographer who has a 1DSMKIII and doesn't need the resolution available from the camera.
For those who need high resolution, the new 1Dx is a disappointment and most togs I know who have been waiting for the 1Ds replacement are now looking at MF offerings.

and the 1dmk4 is still a ***** hot camera.
interested to see you think the mk 4 isnt going to drop in price
A 5Dmk3 shifted up market a bit(say 30+ MP, 7D AF, better weather sealing) seems like it maxmises FF's advanatges over MF, much lower price and a much smaller body.
Well, this camera is going to replace both the 1Ds and 1D lines. So if crop and f/8 focus is important to you then buy now before the camera goes out of production.
whats the easiest way to calculate all my lenses currently on a mkIV to a full frame.. and will any suffer for being on a full frame?
400
70-200
135
85
35
28
Divide their focal length by 1.3 and you'll get that field of view on a full frame.whats the easiest way to calculate all my lenses currently on a mkIV to a full frame..
Suffer? In what way? The full frame camera will push the edge more as it will use more of the light cone. Whether it's noticeable or not is another matter...and will any suffer for being on a full frame?
By "calculate all my lenses currently on a mkIV to a full frame" do you mean find focal lengths that would give you the same FoV on FF as those lenses on 1.3x?

Its OK thanks... I was having a blonde moment.
Whats the chances of the X being ready in march.. the mkIV was hard to get hold of and i pre ordered..
You're looking at this the wrong way. The central 75% (if I've calculated it right - and I may not have) of your 35mm will be the same distortion as on the 1.3 body (that is, if you cut the centre out, it should be indistinguishable from the whole frame of the 1.3 camera.my 35mm f2 is a truly fantastic lens.. but the 28mm i own distorts left and right... the 35mm will become 28 (26) on FF and wondered if it will now distort
Is it just me that sees the 5D3 (or whatever it'll be called) going after f8 focus and high MPix for the birders?
I don't think us mere freelancers will be able to get one in our hands before September 2012... Unless, of course, you have been commissioned to cover the Olympics by a mayor agency or news paper and they provide you with one.
Oh i know the feeling. Even though I have a brand new Hassy to play with, I am still lusting after this one at full power. I wanted one yesterday and, as I get my get head around the new features and what they can do for me, today things have changed for the worse...LOL
Still my guess is, Olympic photogs first and then, Canon ambassadors and Canon explorers of light... Like I said, us mere freelancers, will be last in the food chain... as always LOL.

It's about time Canon competed with a D700 style camera. That's where they are seriously lacking. Not looking likely atm.
You need to distinguish yourself and it makes more sense to have something that doesnt directly compete.

Cant see this happening as if you look at the product ranges from Nikon and Canon they deliberately dont make the exact same cameras. What would be the point of the two top makers delivering identical products to market? You need to distinguish yourself and it makes more sense to have something that doesnt directly compete.
