Canon 1DX - Official Owners Thread

just about to join the club (ordering my 1dx tonight for Tuesday delivery), just wanted to ask if anyone had any problems with it in regards to hooking it up with the older supertele's (as i'll be hooking mine up to my old 600mm mk1 and on occasion 1.4x mk2). I only ask as I seem to recall a firmware update to address such a problem but cant remember if it was for the dx or another of canons bodies.

I have a 1Dx and a 600mm mk1 and they hook up no problem. The 1.4 mk2 works fine too :thumbs:

Should be able to get close enough to the wildlife with that combo :thumbs:

Mind you, with that combo, you could probably see it from here :D

Whats the battery life like Nige, when focussing a big lump like that all day ?
 
The 1Dx was picked up today by UPS so should bewith Canon on Monday and they said it should be back in 2-3 days that may be with me being a CPS gold member.
 
They just want the camera body, no battery etc. I packed mine in loads of bubble wrap in a plain cardboard box.

sent mine to canon a few times (not 1dx but other bodies) they usualy send a link to a UPS label.. this time its just an email with address and ups number.. is that what you got.. no atatchment and no link to a UPS label ?

Yes. When the UPS guy picked it up he had a big sticky label with all the details on that he stuck on the box, job done. according to the tracking mine will be there on Monday.
 
Mine's back with Canon now. CPS rep told me it was an issue with oil in the mirror mechanism. But NOT the one I had told him I'd experienced (loads of spattered oil on the sensor) but it is apparently a problem with too LITTLE oil. If that's the case, I guess it could dry up and seize after a while.

Haaa... I just recently found my sensor is a complete disgusting mess... I nearly always shoot around f4 or wide open.. f5.6 at cricket... but recently i shot the sky at f32 and couldnt believe what I saw... the mess isnt apparent wide open but it is a real mess.. was going to put a note in and ask for the shutter to be cleaned and if not then get it cleaned when its back.....

my 1dx will not work with fuji cf cards, Dont know why but it seems they dont like each other. I had to send two back to WEX and i now have a new sandisk which works fine, as do a old kingston card, sandisk and a card from calumet.
 
I got a confirmation email from Canon this morning saying they had my 1Dx.
 
Regarding this recall malarky, when the mk 2 super teles had the software update last year, did Canon pick up the shipping tab as they seem to be doing here?

How long after filling in the form on the web site were you guys contacted and they collect the camera?

I did the necessary last week and still haven't heard a dicky bird from them.

I had both my 600 and 300 upgraded but, since I live 5 min away from Canon Elstree, I took them and collected them. So, sadly, I can't help. :(

If you are not a CPS member like me, they took around a week to send a email. With a date of nearly a week later to collect. But as I am hols and other things I can not be around for collect till mid july. One thing I will say due to the way filters are set on my email system it got marked as spam. Hope that helps.

I was sent an email last Friday and as I had not heard anything yesterday I called them and arranged everything. They are collecting on Tuesday 2nd July (as i need it on the 1st) via UPS and to speed things up it is going to Fixation for repair, as a gold CPS member I'm hoping the turn around should be 2-3 days.

Kipax, there was a software update on all the super tells approx last year some time, if you want I'll look out the link and post it but it may be that your lens was newer than that, Ivan got his pretty early on and it may only be the first few that were affected.

UPDATE just got another email from Canon to say my camera missed the pickup so it's going to be Thursday for delivery now.

Firmware update was done free of charge.

never heard of this.. my 400m is just about 3 yrs old now.. brand new july 2010
 
as a gold CPS member I'm hoping the turn around should be 2-3 days.

platinum member here.. now wed and no notification that its done or coming back yet..but they only took it monday.. got it tuesday.. so today is day 1....

I queried this with them some time ago for a different job and they reckon the turnaround days is from the day after they recieve it..

What got me intrigued is that lens firmware is user upgradable (via compatible EOS body).

So I don't know why they didn't provide a file download and instead wanted the lenses at the service centre. :shrug:

I'm a Platinum CPS member so I thought I should have heard from them by now. Time to drop them an email I think. Cheers.

Ah if it's a mk1 then it doesn't apply, if a mk 2 then chances are it will need the software upgrade, although I don't know what difference it makes.
