Canon 1DX - Official Owners Thread

Thanks for the link Bob. The guy in the video needs to charge his battery though. I'll give it a go one evening now that I have got my new flash unit and trigger.

Not quite how I did it but, he got similar results. I had my drop on a much more sturdy support, I used 3 flash units and my exposure was 0.5 sec @ f/11.

I wouldn't really know what words to search for. :D What's the technique called?
Water collision, liquid art, water drops, water splash etc, etc.

Blimey, Ivan, people have been complaining that there is too much talk of booze on this thread, now you introduce jazz and attractive ladies........what is the world coming to??

Got mine form Calumet... 2 months after I ordered! (ordered in July-Arrived September)

I use old 1Ds 3 ones, possibly shorter life but why not? Otherwise they'll be of no use.

Thanks for the info, what sort of life are you getting from the 1DS3 batteries George ?

FWIW, Tug, you should get around 6.6% more usage from the N version when compared to the older ones.

Bob

Not really a great deal breaker then, I had 5 Originals for the 2x MKIV's but 4 of them went with the bodies when they were sold....

Cheers Bob

As Bob said, it's supposed to be slightly less, however to be honest I've been playing with the camera quite a lot ....FoCal etc...and so I can't give you an accurate count as I've not shot anything like a full battery's worth in one go.

Am getting my new battery replaced under warranty as it's come up with an error message 3 times.

George.

lot of rubish and nattering and pre 1dx .. better starting another thread for proper stuff..

just IMHO that is:)

Oh well, I agree that there is that, however there's also a lot of good stuff which probably won't be repeated, I'll see what Marcel thinks.

...Tug asked me a question on the other thread and I've moved it to here, so now this is the official thread and I hope Marcel will lock the other one. Phew!!

Just ordered a 1Dx from WEX for collection this weekend

And just in case it gets lonely in the car on the way home, I've bought a Canon 400 f/2.8 IS USM II to keep it company :bonk:

Well Nigel, congrats, you'll love it!!

What kind of photography will you be using it for?

We need to have an update on the af settings people have found useful for different situations, the Canon info is really all sports orientated, and some input on wildlife settings would be appreciated.

Thanks George, I can't wait!

I'll be using it mainly for sports, but also wildlife (mainly birds and bif). I do a bit of macro and landscapes too, so hope it will turn out to be a good all rounder.

As for settings, I'm one for testing and experimenting, so it will be a pleasure to share settings

Great, will look forward to that!!

Canon CPS just sent me and exclusive.. yes exclusive.. offer.... to try out a 1dx

I might take em up on it for a laff..

You could try the new 400/2.8 IS II at the same time...

yes, I got one as well, Gold and platinum members only.....yup, I think I'd like to try one, also with a 70-200 mk2..mine perhaps is getting worn..wonder if the've kept Err 80 for a surprise?

I might test drive the 1dx and send them mine back.. they would have a shock :)

Maybe they will have a 50% discount on the day..

I bought my 1D IV after the test drive.............you'd think they'd send me an invite! :'(

Received the email as well. I thought there would be a few more lenses to try.

Anyone know if it would be restricted to just those mentioned or any Canon lens?

I wonder if sales have started to drop off after the initial interest?..can't be a huge market after all, and Santa won't be able to afford many of these with the government spending cuts..

Hi,

I'm new to this forum so please excuse what might be a very basic question. I note on previous pages some people talk about viewing the camera log to discover a possible battery problem on the 1DX. Can anybody be kind enough to explain to me how you view the camera log. There appears to be no reference to it in the camera manual.
Thanks
James

Hi James, welcome to the forum.
The log should show up any camera problems/faults, and is found as follows..
Menu>scroll with top wheel to the tools setting (spanner) then select the 4th (last) option>down to system status display, click on set button then press info button.....hey presto, that's where my battery problem log was.
Hope that helps, George.

Hi George,

Thanks for that info. The log shows a Caution 02 from when I last used the camera. It's funny, but I have had this strange feeling that then new type battery in my 1DX does not last as. well as when I pop in an old 1D Mk4battery into the 1DX.
Thanks again
James

Well a couple of us have had the same problem (Caution 02), I'm getting mine replaced just in case.

Not sure about battery life, been some mixed comments, perhaps others can have some input.

Jim, any time you fancy a play, just let me know and we can meet up. (but I don't have a 400 mk2:'( )
