Canon 1DX - Official Owners Thread

Know problem George,as soon as i get anything from them will let you know.

Makes me wonder if there are a few out there with this in the log as it is only a caution rather than an error and would of never known to be honest if the log was not on there now.

Any news yet, Glen?

What colour is the X logo on your bodies...Is there any significance that there are bodies with a Red X Logo ?

Mine is usually gold, except when it mirrors my eyes after the mandatory wine. Ivan's will therefore probably always be red.....and Bob's..in France...????

Any news yet, Glen?

They cant reproduce the fault but have returned it with a new battery for me to try but it wont be getting any proper use now until March or April when the new racing season starts.Had put another 7000 shots on it since it registerd the error without a single problem unlike Darren Heath the F1 tog who had both his fail on there first weekend trackside, one with shutter failure and the other not reading any cards.

Will let you know if it happens again during the limited use it gets over winter.

Just checked mine 41k.

Whoops pretty believable too.

Great to see the monkey shots Ivan, hope you had a fantastic trip!

Thank you Ryan.
Other than getting a serious case of Descent sinus Barotrauma on my second dive, the Trip was great. We will be back there just after Easter next year :)

if any of you good guys can help send me a pm with your no on and will ring you at a mutual time, this is sending me datf i must have tried it 30 times!! last night :help:

It sounds like you are just copying the zip file across to your card. You need to unzip the file you downloaded and copy the .fir file across.

The .fir file is the actual firmware file the camera needs, it can't see inside the zip file.

:agree:

unzip and make sure you copy to the root of the card not into a folder :)

Are you on Windows or Mac, if on Mac happy to pm you my details, but the above comments still apply!!

Thanks to all the above guys will have a look later at this unzipping lark , might have to ask the daughter she's 12 she should know, will let tou know of any progress :)
Thanks George im on windows

Just double click on the eos1dx-v111-win.zip file and you will see a file called 1DX00111.FIR.

Copy that file to your card (just drag and drop on the root folder of the card) and you all all set to update.

Been to a very poorly lit sports hall this aft to do girls school badminton finals..

Good job I had the 135mm with me as the 70-200 wouldnt hack it today at 2.8.. I needed a decent shutter to capture this sport... so i ended up on F2 with ISO 25600 and that in itself gives you an idea how grim it is... this is exactly why I got the IDX :)

That shot looks pretty damn good to me. I bet it would print lurvely :D

Just noticed, top RHS of viewfinder shows "number of possible shots" display.
Now, according to the manual, I should get a burst of 35 shots on RAW, my viewfinder tells me 29, doesn't matter whether I have a 1000x UDMA card inserted, or an older and slower standard card.
What info are others getting..?..and I'm only shooting RAW, not RAW plus jpeg.
Before I start tests, thought I'd check the forum.
George.

Don't forget that Iso setting makes a difference, George....I think Canon are stating the absolute maximum.

Hmm, I had it set on auto iso, will have a play later.

What does yours show, Bob?

Yes, and noise reduction is a big one. Not sure about lens corrections and other custom settings, but probably they will hit burst numbers too.

Well, what readings do you get.....I'm saving this excitement till tomorrow now!!!

George,

With my configuration, and Sandisk Extreme III's installed, I get 35 at Iso 100 reducing semi-linearly to 26 at Iso 51200.

Bob

Thanks, Bob, will check in the morning, red wine syndrome.....actually haggis and neeps and a wee dram tonight...

I know ISO affects it in real life, but I tried and it said 32 whether the ISO was 100 or 6400 but didn't try it.

Escargots et jambes de grenouille down here :gag:

Ah, garlic snails and frog's legs.......I still prefer haggis and a drop of Talisker...next instalment tomorrow, I'm afraid.

Wonder how Ivan's wine is going down tonight?

edit..just finished off with a very pleasant N Z autumn picked riesling...quite a pleasant surprise...

Yes, it's the iso setting ok, only gives 35 shots on iso 100, drops to 34 at 200 and so on.

Ah well, at least that's one thing sorted!!

Thanks, Bob et al!!

I wouldn't really know what words to search for. :D What's the technique called?

I think it's called Splashy Water Thingy ;)
