Canon 1DX - Official Owners Thread

haha Bob.

Soon to be found in ebay as a mint condition never dropped but lightly soiled combo.
filter installed before leaving the shop and from a pet free, non-smoking household.

Must be a woman's camera.. she figures if mud helps her skin look good, it will do the shame for her photos....:bonk:

Just had an e-mail from CPS and will be taking mine back to Borehamwood on Monday for them to investigate the "Caution 02" battery warning thats come up.Only came across this by accident in the log as the camera had performed without giving any clue that an error had been logged.

Will update once its back.

See that the 5D 3 lads will be happy now they've got f8 update..but not till April!!...but no red flashing lights for them!!

Well let me know, please!!

Know problem George,as soon as i get anything from them will let you know.

Makes me wonder if there are a few out there with this in the log as it is only a caution rather than an error and would of never known to be honest if the log was not on there now.

I thought the 'no red light' thing was to prevent extra light getting into the viewfinder area to avoid inaccurate exposures..................or something like that?

I've had a search but can't find it

Has anyone had to Calibrate their L series lenses with the 1DX ?
With my 1DS 3 I had to get my 1.2 primes calibrated to the camera by Canon as their focus was not accurate at wide apertures.
Has anyone found this to be necessary with the 1DX ?

I've done my 85/1.2 and 50/1.2 on both 1Dx's and they seem okay now.
I used Reikan Focal AFMA software...well worth the investment if you've got a few lenses and bodies to sort out.

Bob

I did a 300/2.8 with a 1Dx and it's super sweet now. Didn't need much though.

Hi Ed. I haven't had to calibrate any of my lenses to the 1Dx even the really old uns.:)

The 'Doubler' & 1.4 converters are also spot on which wasn't the case with my Mk1V.

Stew.

No adjustments on any of my lenses with the 1Dx.
Below a couple of shots taken in Thailand.
The close up was taken wide open with my 70-200MKII which needed +15 on my 1DIV... go figure!

Thanks Bob. I thought the Pro version too. Quite reasonably priced bearing in mind what it's capable of doing

Yup that's the one I have, but there have been some probs with the mac version...not FoCal's fault I hasten to add...and the've sorted them out.

It looks a really good programme which I have to admit I'm only just getting to grips with as I was waiting on the Mac version, certainly has sharpened up my lens/body combos particularly with extenders and takes the guesswork out of things.

No, the local CPS rep was busy checking out a costumer equipment. He likes to take his time and has a very hands on approach to his work...Hence the long wait Bob is enduring.

The one you referring to is a distant cousin of David Bowie who kindly tended to my somewhat less demanding needs LOL

Please note picture above is straight out of camera Jpg with no processing. Posted just for fun.

My Eos 1 DX arrived today thanks to Surrey Sam for the heads up on the keen price from Visual Impact.
Not had time to test it yet one Q though my file numbers start at 7000 - is this normal ?
or are they supposed to come out of the box at zero ?

Would have thought zero, I'd check with Canon Elstree on that one.
Was it all wrapped up correctly and did you format the card you used prior to shooting?

The shutter count (to the nearest 1k) is shown in menu options....look there and see if it's showing <1k or <8k.

Bob

Thanks Bob - where in the menu is the shutter count please ? which colour menu ?
cant see it and cant find in the manual.

the manuals interesting - used to be manuals this thick were this thick cause they were in several languages.
this is all english, theres a lot of manual for the 1dx

Menu>Tools (the one shaped like a spanner)>4th option>scroll down to "system status display">select by pressing Set button then, hey presto!! release cycles...except mine shows>2000 when it's only done about 700.

Ed, I'm glad someone found the link useful. Congratulations on your purchase

Interesting camera the 1DX. It must be the 5th generation Eos 1 I've owned (first was the Eos 1 film from 1992'sh).

Tested it on a job Friday night - Halloween party - total darkness but for a few candles - people in dark clothes. I was amazed at what it could capture. (whatever happened to film speed ? the ISO's here are off any previous scale ) Client was amazed also.
And the feedback from her boss in Paris was "these are the best pics we've ever had from an event".

Thanks Canon.

Just checked mine 41k.

Whoops pretty believable too.

Great to see the monkey shots Ivan, hope you had a fantastic trip!

Just checked mine 41k.

<39000 here

new bonus.. the colours at high iso under poor lighting are very rich.. I did a floodlight match with both cameras 1dx and mkIV and the differnce in colour.. loverly..

in darker conditions the focus doesnt perform as well as it does on a nice day for me...but still better than owt else i have used

the new firmware for the red focus point... bit of an improve i suppose but not much :(

all in all I have deffo done it again.. the new 1dx puts the mkIV to shame and what was the best thing since sliced bread a couple of months ago is now only used when needed for secondry pics :(

wahay just made the big jump from a 7D to 1Dx :)
2 more sleeps and it should here including a 32gb 90mb/s, i wonder why im stuggling to sleep at night lol
