Canon 1DX - Official Owners Thread

The 10K and 12.8K make it look far lighter than it really was.

It's looking that way yes.

Now the big problem though is what lenses. Having sold off all my L glass before I'm starting from scratch.

I'm thinking at the moment maybe

24-105
50 f.12
70-200

On the issue of the 70-200 I have owned the ISmkII and know how good it is but I am wondering if given the excellent high ISO on the 1Dx that maybe I could go with the f2.8 non-IS. Might be a false economy but the non-IS and the 24-105 are about the same price as the 70-200 mkII if bought from Kerso.
The 50 f1.2 looks outstanding but pricey. The f1.4 is maybe an option though?

I think I will ultimately get a 400 f2.8 for sports but at the moment I don't earn enough from that to justify the costs. Maybe sometime next year when I have got back into the swing of things I will look at it. I think for now the 70-200 and a 1.4 or 2x converter will suffice.

That little lot should cost up to around £8K. Oh dear.....:D

PS - Sorry for the thread hijacking.

That's a pretty tidy selection Andy. I would go for the IS version of the 70-200 purely because you will wish you had and will end up buying it anyway lol!

What about a WA lens, either the Canon 10-22 or the Sigma 8-16 iirc?

Andy

Do u have it on trial Rob or have you bought it?

Andy

Just borrowing for a few days. But I do want one. n.b. the want is greater than the need.

It's good to want things even if it is greater than your needs, think how boring life would be if you had everything handed to you on a plate.

I want an Aston Martin but I don't need one. It is nice to dream of things you can't afford now but you never know what the future holds.

Then when it arrives you have to wait for the battery to fully charge lol

A pity there isn't a way of supplying them fully charged. It's like buying a car if you had to wait for the wheels to be supplied.

Until I used it last night at football in AI Servo, I didn't think that the focus point not lighting up in red would be an 'issue'. Yes you can live with it, but I find it a PITA. Hopefully this is something that can be fixed in a firmware update.

If you don't need/want it, then you could the option to turn it off.

n.b. no complaints about the speed of focusing as mentioned in my post one page back.

Re the red light.

Use it in dark/pitch black like I do for venues :(

I have noticed that when the point in single shot* lights red you can see the entire view finder light red due to how it's designed.

I was shooting with single and 4 or 8 expansion points.

Forgot to mention when it's stupidly dark FPS slows down markedly.

I think he'll let us know when it does...or perhaps he'll be too excited to type!!

My last FedEx delivery didn't arrive until late afternoon.

Think he should post the tracking number so we can all see when it finally gets there. :)

Tony is overwhelmed by the hefty instruction manual.... he'll comeback to us sometime in 2020...

It's okay they have written a special 'northern' version which is shorter ;)

I'm struggling a little with this change too. I wonder if it would be possible to have the VF illumination proportional to the metered light?

You'll need to get 'Me Julie' running round the garden to test it out..

Or been hijacked on the Clitheroe bypass..

The Eagle has Landed ....

Currently stuck on 23% updating firmware :)

I was confused at first...they only went and moved the card door release thingy :)

Remember if you use your 1DIV charger it can only charge the 1Dx battery to 90% (as best I recall).
