Bloomin eck - I just posted this on your FB page - too late.

Sounds good though but can it do that on a gloomy Accrington night when not on One Shot?

Probably sell my flash and quantum battery setup when i get this :)

What flash?

hadnt seen that.. at :)

it would be bad news.. but as the story says.. hardly a shock.. been here before with other releases :(

i dont think i will be changing my order to a nikon unless my lens all work on it :)

Yes figured that.

It just seems to me that the earlier a company announces a new technology product the more it gets delayed.

I remember Sony Ericsson announcing the P800 which I then waited and waited and waited for. It was about 6 months late if I remember correctly.

i agrree.. not good :( but not suprising.., had kinda resigned myself to not getting in march... if march was on the cards we would have had a more serious date and there would ahve been higher iso examples.. one of its biggest selling points and they cant show examples when release is weeks away... all the signs are there unfortunatly :(

I'm sure you'll hear before then but I'll ask when I go to the Focus on Imaging show at The NEC on 7th March.

Canon has confirmed that its EOS-1D X, an 18.1MP full-frame DSLR, will not go on sale until the end of April, due to 'development delays'.

Aimed at professional sports and studio photographers, the EOS-1D X was originally expected to go on sale in March.

A Canon UK spokesperson told AP: 'At the time of the [press] launch in October 2011, our guide was a sales start date of March 2012.

'However, due to development delays, we have announced a confirmed sales start for the end of April 2012.'

The spokesperson added: 'I am not able to comment on the details of the development delays.'

The EOS-1D X is expected to go head-to-head with Nikon's flagship DSLR, the D4, some orders of which will be delayed until March from a previously stated February availability.

Tony ~ see my link above.

Anyone else noticed that the specs on WEX's site have changed from 2x CF slots to 1x CF and 1x SDXC?

Typo?

Typo - must be.

Someone got confused with what to edit and was probably meant to be doing the 5D3 file.

The real question now is what does the extra £2000 get you in a 1Dx that's not on a 5D III ?

fps

AND - not to forget, a lot more actuations (5DIII=150000 / 1DX=400000)

Better water/weather "resistance"??

Better AF tracking, 1 extra stop high ISO advantage, integrated Ethernet, more shots per battery... List goes on.

And having shot 8 & 10fps cameras, the 6->12 fps difference can be a huge benefit. Not in the studio though :)

:D £2K is a lot on money to go from 6 to 12 fps

It is not everybody's camera, at least for now;) There are some who *need* that 12fps, for example shooting sport. The new 5D should be realistically 'enough' for the rest of us. I know which one I'd rather have money no object, but that will have to wait about 4-5 years

I've gone a bit undecided, was going for a 1dx, for once Canon hasn't shafted us 1 series users 6 months after the launch of the 1ds, with a 5d which is nearly as good, but cheaper.
5d looks good but 150000 is about 1-2 years shooting for me, coupled with flash of 1/200, I may stick with the 1dx and skip the next generation.

Anyone know how much a replacement shutter is, and how long is turnaround?

About £300 for a 1D body when I last saw a relevant price.

I am sticking with my 1DX order. Was happy with the spec when they first announced it.
Was thinking that if the 5D3 was attractive that I might go with a secondhand 1d4 and a 5D3 but the 1DX has more of what I want.

^ Absolutely! The Ethernet port gives you some more possibilities when it comes to tethered shooting as well as wireless shooting.
It all, of course, comes down to how advanced the Ethernet settings are in the camera software.
In its simplest form it should be possible to use a small wifi router to establish wireless shooting
I'm looking forward to read the manual ;)

Is anyone planning on using the ethernet port?

I'm struggling to see how useful it will be.

Will be great when shooting tethered, for starters the port on the current 1ds is a bit fragile.

I have shot tethered on the mIV with a USB lead and its fast enough for sure.. cant see the port making much different.. wireless would be good built in but it isnt :(

Downloading to computer should be quicker then any other method.

I can remember where I saw the announcement about the delay, I thought it was on The Digital Picture rss feed, but can't find it now, but Canon website does say sales at end of April

Go on then...I will bite... Whats a biffer?

I thought the f8 problem was only with a converter? not that I would envisage using f8 anytime :)

BIF = Bird in flight.

Biffer sounds ruder though...

As you have said before Tony - of course it will focus at F8 but wasn't supposed to auto focus if your minimum aperture was F8 or lower. i.e. 300/4 with a 2x converter.

Got my invitation for a full evaluation day at a carting venue. I will be able to take my own memory cards and take the images home for review. That will help me making up my mind about purchasing.

thats a bummer (but not for you :) ).. where did you get that invite from?

Had a few thoughts about cancelling mine :( By the time it gets here I wont need the only thing I am upgrading it for.. the low light capabilities.. evenings are light and school work will dry up for the summer.. was never going to be a cricket camera..

May as well cancel and wait until next winter is upon us.. any problems will have been ironed out..

They told us end of march and i have waited ages.. even with a deposit and cps list to get an early one i still dont get any notifications about delays :(

not a happy bunny .
