canon 1dx a bit quiet?

Got the invite from Frankie Jim. (booked it last October at CPS Show).
Still have a deposit for 1 unit (originally 2)... Like you, I have my doubts about it but, having a proper hands on session with semi fast carts going around in low light, should be a good test.
I am confirmed for the 11th afternoon. If anyone else is going to the London event let me know so that we can meet up and compare notes.
==EDIT==
Any particular thing you guys want me to test, please state below.

haa right you had already expressed an interest.. I cant really get to the shows so I miss out :(

I am dissapointed I ahvent got the 1dx now.. plus the complete lack of communication to a customer sat here with 17k of canon equipment waiting to spend another 5k plus.. and they havent even got the good manners to officialy inform me its late or give any indication when available :( no special offers for me.. no trial for me.. no information for me.

if i was a £22k + customer with any other company and the product was to be a month late...pretty sure they wouldnt just leave me sat here wondering.. pretty sure I would have better customer/sales support than the ZERO I have now..

That about sums it up Tony. The french CPN keep sending me news shots showing how bleedin' good it is but not a hint of when I'll be able to get my grubby fingers around it.
Frequent "cordial" invites to try one aren't a good substitute for being able to make plans.

Bob

Hi Ivan,
I'm going on the afternoon session the day after on the 12th. should be interesting now we get to use our own cards if nothing else.:)

Fully agree with you Tony. You're probably better to hang fire on getting it till later anyway, now the summers nearly on us (unless of course you've got loads of indoor dark cavern stuff to shoot).
Even if I think it's the best thing since sliced bread I very much doubt I'll put in an immediate order for one, I'll let the price come down a bit & wait for all the early uptakers to give it a thorough test.

Stew.

I hear you Tony..
I have some £35K invested on canon gear and, like you, I am very disappointed at the lack of communication. The only saving grace is the staff at Elstree service centre who knows me on a first name basis and, have always gone beyond the call of duty for me. Otherwise, it will be goodbye canon and hello Nikon.... (although I doubt the grass will be any greener there...)
Any way, if you want me to test anything you may be concerned about, I will be happy to oblige.

Only Just noticed your signature there Bob...It has me rolling on the floor with laughter....hahahahahahaha... Now that's funny stuff...

Cheers.. My only reason for upgrading is the low light situations.. I never have any concerns with AF etc on any of the models I ahve had mkii upwards

simple..upgrading for better quality pics at iso 12800 ect... any test at those iso in dim light is pretty useless ..needs to be in an orrible place :)

they should have given me one to test.. i would put it through high iso paces haha :)

Tony, It may be worth speaking to Frankie as there is an event in your area...I tried to PM but you dont have it selected ...Email or PM me

oops thats been off yonks..

up here..is there? ooooooer

Kipax, maybe you should cancel and tell them why you're cancelling, lack of information. May not do any good, but the message may slip through to those up the chain when a possible £5K disappears.

And if more do the same, then you never know. I don't see why any of these companies don't keep customers, and potential customers up to date with delays. May lose one or two customers to rivals, but those that stay will feel better about the company.

The only way for the message to get through to Canon, (lack of updates) and Nikon (upping their prices) is for people to cancel their orders and tell them why.

Easy enough to say I know. ;)

I was looking forward to seeing how you found the 1DX compared to what you have now. :(

well i sent my CPS rep frankie jim a message today and will wait for his response to that.. i didnt rant.. just pointed out that i was dissapointed with the current situation.. and felt left out and in the dark..

Official Canon 1Dx AF settings guidebook can be downloaded HERE

Just in case the Canonistas hadn't picked up on this from the D4 thread:

In other news, the 1Dx is delayed until at least very late April/May.

However I'm sure that a few of you are aware of this already! :)

Thanks for the Link to the settings guide book Ivan, looks as though it will be all of the 1Dx I shall be taking on a job in May. I was hoping to have it by then but even with the priority delivery it is looking doubtful to say the least.

I do think it is bad that Canon have not informed people with deposited pre-orders anything regarding delays, they have our contact details as they sent confirmation that I was on the priority list.... Poor show really.

I saw on Canon Rumours that there was unofficial talk the 1Dx will run into May/July :(

Tbh, with the amount of user testing on pre production models still going on, I don't think that they've settled on a final draught of the software yet. Purely speculation of course!

I got an instant notification they recieved my message.. but no response as yet..

my itchy finger is hovering over the cancel 1dx button :(

Have now emailed the people I paid the deposit to.. Asked why after tkaing a deposit of 500 in early feb with a late march delivgery date that they havent contacted me about any delays..

I am truly amazed ..its not just canon its the shop as well... your spending over 5 thousand pounds on top of thousands of other pounds and you dont even get an email to say whats happening :(

Deffo in a cancel mood today.. mostly due to the lack of common courtesy from the seller or canon... but if i do then i come off the priority list.. i might wake up tommorow in a different mood and regret it.. so am gonna sleep on it..

I think I shall stick it out, what with the price rise of the D4 it does make the two cameras comparable in price now and I shall be covered with the pre-order price.

Just hope the wait is woth it, it probably will be if the wait is due to the f/8 focussing issue and they get it sorted out before release, it was my one disappointment with the specs on that camera. Having just read Ivan's link above it states the f/5.6 limit for AF which precludes the teleconverter on several lenses which is no change to the original specs. The lsit of lenses and the various AF points they can use is very useful.

This is a major concern for me.
I mean get the 1Dx = £5300... Get the 600mm MKII = £11999 get the 2X MKIII = circa £500.. put them all together and ...errr... sorry it won't AF... And no it isn't a bad joke is for real... I asked Frankie Jim about f/8 AF at the CPS show last October, His response was stark and clear "It is a hardware issue and firmware won't fix it".. So forget f/8 AF it won't happen.

The 1Dx is for me, a huge disappointment in two areas. 1 - It should have been upgraded to focus at f/11 to maintain extender compatibility with the 800 and 1200mm lenses yet, and although previous 1D bodies have all managed f/8 AF the 1Dx won't...and 2 - you can't use all of the focusing points with some lenses...Tch, tch, tch.

I won't even go into delays and lack of costumer communication... I've cancelled 1 Body and Like Tony, my finger is lingering over the Cancel button for the second one... I'll make my mind up after I have a Proper test next week but, my 25 year relationship with Canon is not looking good...

Hmmmm. Rumours have been chuntering around that the f/8 issue is firmware, not hardware, and that the release version may well have it on board.

There are 2 things, apart from cost, that rule the 1Dx out for me:

a) FF v APS-H
b) 2x CF v 1 CF & 1 SD

Well, Frankie Jim was pretty adamant that the problem was hardware limitations and that a firmware update would not fix it. Still, Nikon has it on the D4 and they may enable it with firmware but, with a "AF accuracy and consistence will be adversely affected" caveat.... But, I seriously doubt it will see the light of day on this camera... Roll on the 1Dx MKII...

Luke, the darkside is calling.

I'll bet some people are in the middle of that battle...

I hope that is what we will find at the release. Even though it's not a deal breaker for me, it would be nice to have

Well, the MKII 500mm = 9K... The MkII 600mm = £12K...The 800mm = £10K ... These are very expensive pieces of equipment. Yet,with the 1Dx none are AF compatible with the 2X extender (and for the 800mm the 1.4x extender won't AF ether)... this is a mayor kick in the nuts to Big Canon glass owners. Some people own all of these lenses (in their MKI incarnation) and, for them, the situation is not funny at all.

I have sold all of my MKI "big" glass and was planning to purchase the 400mm MKII, 600mm MKII and the 800mm. So, for me AF at f/8 could very much be a deal breaker. Moreover, it could be a brand changing event.
Next week, after the "TEST", I shall have the whole picture.

Just been playing with some RAW files.
Amazing! Looking forward to getting my hands in one.

Looks like it could be the first digital camera I don't need to upgrade in 4 years time.

Fantastic event today, we got spoiled rotten by Frankie and his crew. We even got to race them :P.
Camera felt really good, a huge improvement over the 1DMKIV. Not gone through my shots yet. I will post samples once I work on them.
Humble pie comes to mind after today.
