Hey Guys,

Im a Nikon D200 user, and have been for a long while. I'm thinking upgrading this July 2010, as it will be my 21st birthday, and be putting some $$ in to get a Pro camera.

I was looking at D700, D3, D3x, or a D300s. I would like to emphasize that I am getting a more modern camera because the noise level on the D200 camera sensor is not enough for me at low light. I dare not to shoot higher then 1250. I prefer to use film, but why have a digital if you're not going to take advantage of the sensor technology??

I am living in Australia as well, and the prices here are still rather to high for a D3... So I'm wondering do you think the when the Nikon D700s and D3s released on the Australian market that the prices will drop by a few hundred??

Right now the D700 is $3000 - $3700(£1700 - £2100), D3 is $5695(£3150), and D3X around $9,000-12,000(£5056 - £6100).

I probably be better buying it in UK, when i come back in the summer and getting the 15% tax off of the camera as well...

How are the noise on these cameras? I've checked on flickr, but struggled to find the D3x in boost mode on ISO5000. Im looking for a camera with minimal noise through 100 - 800 but is also still not very noisey at 2000 and above. Any Thoughts?

Thanks

If you're worried about noise I'd steer clear of the D3X. It's not a problem at low ISO but as you start to push higher it creeps in a lot faster because of the higher pixel density (or something like that )

Had a D300, D700 and a D300S (latter two at the same time); as always it depends what you're shooting. Without a doubt, the ISO above 1600 is the domain of the D700. Most of my work I need to DX crop factor which is why I'm back to D300S.

Hi x777,

I shoot portraits, candids, street photography. I am looking for a FF camera, as I usually do this with my Zeiss Ikon Contax IIIa. I've found the APS-C rather small, plus it gets a bit grainy at ISO800+.

I do alot of low light photography, and some sport at night. I think the ISO levels up to 6400 will be extremely beneficial. Im tossing up between the D700, or the D3. I reckon the extra $$ might be worth bothering with the D3.

What you reckon?

D700 would be more discrete for candid and street stuff, the D3 is a big lump of pro body, both have the same sensor, both will produce the same results.

Am I right saying the D700s will be coming out in spring 2010? While I agree on you with the D700 being more discrete, I was informed that the D3 vertical grip is very economical...

The D700 will do the job - I always used mine with a MBD-10 so it equated to a D3 'lump', but you obviously have the choice of 'discreting' the camera. And another word enters the OED...!!
