Camera Hire

Need to hire a crop sensor Nikon, any recommendations on who to go to?

you could possibly ask someone on here ... plenty of friendly faces around .. sadly not me though ... in full frame only

worth a mention though .. you never know .. :)

I've looked at this myself, but everywhere pretty much takes the full retail cost of a camera or lens, divides by 10 (sometimes less), and that's the hire price for a week - so after half a dozen hires they've got their money back. Yowch....!

With the semi-loopy second-hand prices on some items, you might as well buy something, use it for a few weeks, then sell it for less depreciation than the hire cost! :cuckoo:

I hire a lot of (non camera) gear for work, and generally prices are more like 20-30 weeks to break even, so hire rather than buy makes much more sense...and they give you a fully-usable spare of everything as well -the effect of a bigger market! Although they don't have to deal with numpty consumers like a camera hire place would, which probably accounts for half the hire costs of a camera... :gag:

Thanks for suggestions folk

It is tempting to buy S/H then sell it on, quite probably not losing as much as hiring, plus I could try it out for longer. :)

A firm I worked for hired a power lead for £10 per week. The lead only cost the hire firm £8 to buy :cuckoo:

Can you give us a bit more info, treeman? We may be able to offer more suggestions.

Why does it need to be a Nikon? Why crop? What are you planning to shoot, and what for?

Sounds like a plan. Dependant upon what you buy in the first place and how many frames you shoot, you could probably do it for free effectively. You might even make a profit if you grab a bargain! D90s keep their value extremely well.
