im still lookin for a Minolta AF 50mm f1/7 any ideas ( i havent got a ebay account ) any shops that my do used/secondhand

Pity about the ebay account because there must about 10 of these Minolta's for sale on there at any one time. A very popular lens, I got mine from ebay the other year. Not sure where you could get any 2nd hand ones from apart from there though. The newer Sony version is a bit dearer though. Have a look in the back of Amateur Photographer magazine, they have a large classified section, you may find some in there.

oh yea didnt think of that thanks i just been looking on ebay there are a few on there
my local camera shop sells second hand gear i was shown a few minolta af lenses on friday but i dont know if they are any good ill have to ask what they are and check them out on the internet they had a few lenses starting from 25 quid and that was one branch there are 3 within 10 miles of me ill have to ring each one and ask ( you never know )

Have you tried the Dyxum forums Mark?
Solely for Sony/Minolta users, and there are always some lenses for sale on there.
http://www.dyxum.com/dforum//forum_topics.asp?FID=7

Not everybody requires Paypal etc. If you see one you fancy send the guy a PM and you might find an easier way to pay for it?
Just a thought

Don't worry, his Better Half is with him! :D

Knowing Stan, he'll treat her to an afternoons bingo to give him two or three hours "browsing" time....

Hey all,

I'm going to be selling my a-mount fit Sigma 15mm f2.8 fisheye. Part of my plan to fund the A700 purchase.

I know there's not many Sony users on here, but thought I'd see if I get a response before it goes to ebay by the end of the week. Cost £380 in July, looking for £280. As new condition, all boxed etc. Gimme a PM.

I've also listed the A100 in the for sale section, if you know anyone who might be interested!

Hi All,

Another Sony A200 user. Really happy with it and will be moving upto the A700 after xmas hopefully!

I moved up from an A100 to an A700 and couldn't be more pleased. Kept the A100 as a back up, but thinking of getting another A700 body. Are you keeping the A200 or are you selling it to fund the A700?

Well, as my photos on this site don't tend to get many comments :|:| I thought you guys on this thread may appreciate this one more. This was taken with the white 70-200 on Sunday afternoon. We had glorious blue skies and while the last shafts of sunlight reached through the ever changing trees, I got a glimpse of autumn with these rustic leaves.

There are times fabs when I think I really want/need a longer lens reach, a case in point was after I took that leaf photo I moved onto some swans and really wanted to get in closer.

I then remind myself that with careful patience and a steady hand, this lens will produce some excellent photos giving me a bit of leeway in the cropping stakes. I haven't used my kit 75-300 since getting this lens as the CA that the kit produced really spoilt many a good photo once cropped.

I did ask the other day if anyone had any hands on experience with the f8 500mm reflex lens, I'm wondering if that is worth spending more ££ on at a later date or try and save for a longer prime but then we are talking many thousands of £££ if buying the Sony marque.

I'm still hovering over the 2x teleconverter. Next opportunity I get, I'll pop into Digital Depot and try it out. It's currently £280, so a lot cheaper that a longer lens. The only problem would be the max aperture of f5.6, but I could live with that.

I'll post some test photos with the TC when I've had a chance to get over and try it out (Should be in the next couple of weeks.)

Liking the colours in that shot JPS and the lack of CA is great. If you are after longer reach, I saw there was a Minolta 300G prime for sale on Dyxum for around $1200, no idea what the shipping would be though!

Here's another 'test'. This photo was taken in the same place as the leaf photo a few posts back. I hadn't taken my macro lens out as I had enough to carry to be honest. I couldn't get in too close - or anywhere near as close as I can with the Vivitar macro that I have. I had to stand back a bit to get the focus on the bee on the flower.

First is the full shot - reduced to 800pxl for the web

Then a crop of the bee from the centre of the image. Reduced to 800pxls again, it doesn't do it justice here on the forum but it is a whole lot better I can assure you before I compressed it for here

I think that's a pretty good crop for a non macro lens :)

Hi all,

Completely new to DSLR's and take delivery of the a200 and kit lens on wednesday.
Also looking at the Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro as my first lens purchase.

I'm mainly interested in night photograhy especially car trails, light in water reflections and moon shots.

Looking forward to learning about my new camera and also to being a member on this forum.

Paul,
Co Armagh

Don't ya wish those batteries came ready charged? :D Waiting for them to charge is worse than waiting for the camera to be delivered!

Hi Paul and welcome.

Haven't got the Sigma 70-300, but have heard good things about it. I'm sure you'll enjoy your new camera and there'll be plenty of advice on here for you.

I've heard that you should get the APO version, seems redpaul is after the non-APO which is meant to be a bit pants. The APO version is £30 extra so worth it.
Welcome guys :) I've only been here a few days myself too so we can learn together :help:

HAHA got home took battery of charge and realised my memory card hasnt come and I cant use my sony memory stick as I dont have the CF adapter!!:bang:

Looks like I will have to wait another day or so before I can take some pics, had a quick mess around and went through all the settings and jeez theres alot of buttons

Can you believe that when Sony brought out the A100 in 2006, they actually gave you a CF adaptor so that you can turn your memory stick into a CF card. They seem to have stopped doing that for some reason though, I didn't get one in my A700 box either.

Im not surprised to be honest, seems to be the norm these days to cutback on as much as possible. Hopefully I should get my 8gb card 2mw and can take some snaps! But will have to wait until a get back from work!!
