Great news for me today.........:clap::clap::clap::clap:

Managed to pick up a mint 70-210 f4 "Beercan" bundled with a mint Minolta 35-70mm f4 Macro for £150.00 delivered!! :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

Happy bunny
:D

Sounds fantastic. Where are you getting them from?

A guy who is a member on the Dyxum site.
I put a request up for a Beercan the other day, inundated with offers.
His seemed the best copy (he sent me a few decent high res piccies) and initially asked for £150.00.
Managed to chip him down to £125.00 but he offered to throw in the other Minolta lens for the extra £25.00
It seemed silly not to accept at that price didn't it?
The 35-70mm f4 Macro seems to be well respected on the forums and reviews

Nice one happy bunny! :thumbs:

Why is the Beercan so good? Never having actually had one or even seen one in the flesh - just heresay and pictures on ebay. Are they really any good. Why would it be wise to get one, or am I covered with the gear I own already???

Obviously, I've never owned one so can't comment on whether they are any good or not....but general opinion is that even now it's one of the best lenses you can buy for the Alpha range of cameras.
Some users have even said that it's sharper than the 50mm f1.7 prime (I'll reserve judgement on that one ;))
Also it's ability to hold on to it's maximum aperture (f4) throughout it's focal range could come in very useful.
Most of the reviews say that it is a "must have"....
So I had to have it
:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

I wish I'd not clicked on those links leaky5, there are some awesome photos from those lenses on there. Thanks for the info.

Wanna buy mine for three hundred quids?
:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:;)

I am just waiting for delivery of one of the 100-200's, paid £45 for it and a metal bodied 35-105. These give very good results as well, some of the optics are shared with the 70-210 beercan. The good thing is everybody wants the 70-210, so the others are usually cheaper.

These were taken with my old 35-105, which has now bitten the dust (literally full of it) I took it apart too many times.

Those photos are good, may consider getting a lens like this, save me taking my other one out that would cost a whole lot more to replace if I dropped it or it got 'chavved'.

and it looks like it has the lens hood as well, some don't have this and that alone can cost up to £20. I sold one for £16 a few weeks ago.

I checked with my seller, my copy has the hood, both end caps and a Skylight filter fitted too.
Should be here by the week-end
:woot::woot:

A200 user here, bought last week and am a complete noob so be gentle.
I bought a minolta 35-105mm which came today, mint condition with hood et all, looks like its been very well looked after.
Said lens gets very positive reviews on Dyxum:

and I paid £35 including special delivery :woot:

can't wait to get it home to try it!

this also looks like a pretty good deal:

A slightly better test shot with the 70-200. And NO, he's NOT picking his nose! :D

Welcome Timmy. Looks like you've done well with that lens. We'll have you in the White Lens Club before you know it! :lol:

I used to think that. Stan sold his motorbike, JPS sold his soul, I sold the missus.......:D

And I've gone on the game
Oooooh! My chuffer
:'(:'(:'(:'(:'(:'(

What's annoying me now is the fact that when I'm printing, the blacks are more of a green/black than black. I'm using Epson R300 with Epson ink and Epson paper. This is getting on my nerves now. AAARRRRGGHHHH.

dont know quite how to follow the oooooh my chuffer post but i will try. i m thinking of getting a sony alpha 200 but after hearing the the oooh`s and ahhh`s about this fabled beercan i wondering would i be better off going for a body only deal and then trying to get hold of one of those? or is the kit lens fairly good anyway?

The standard kit lens is not too bad if you experiment with it a little....
and is certainly worth the little extra you will pay to get it with the camera.
Problem is, if you go for the Beercan only, you are going to have a gaping great hole for anything under 70mm.
I've replaced my kit lens with a Sigma 17-70 but won't sell the Sony lens because it's worth peanuts second hand, and it's not such a bad lens not to have it in reserve.

Here's an almost tale of woe! I took my camera with the great white one attached out of my camera bag today and noticed the little door thingy on the hood wasn't there. Fortunately, I saw it in the boot of my car. I had no idea how it came off and I couldn't for the life of me get it back on. A friend had a go but with no luck. :bang: Anyway, got home later on and had another look. It went back on in about 5 seconds! Phew!!:clap:

What is that door thing for?

Isn't it so you can turn a polarising filter (or similar) with the hood fitted? I had a gap on an old lens hood and i think that was the only use i could work out!

BTW Fabs, despite your glowing reccomendation for camera clubs, work got in the way and I ended up doing overtime instead:thumbsdown:

Has anyone got or ever used one of those 500mm F8 reflex lenses that Sony do? I see new they are £450 ish depending on where you go. I have just seen one on ebay go for just over £120. Are they any good or a waste of time?
