and again - where do you see 249 price ? 337 is OSD and jessops is 379 with the online code. amazon is 337 .

Perhaps it was another one of Jessops pricing errors. Andy is usually pretty good at spotting them and making Jessops suffer for it;)

I don't want one - the postcode checker says it's available in Bristol though.

LOL!

Nah, that was a genuine price promotion - was on their site for a few days.

The Sony 100mm f/2.8 at £299 was definitely a mis-price I think though!

gotta love jessops ! :D

Play are in my good books too - my £9.99 "M" type focus screen for my A900 arrived last week

Been some mental pricing on Sony stuff lately - A500 + 18-55 for £408 in Curry's while the £80 cashback was still on was a good one too :)

Just waiting for a £699 A850 now :)

Hi,
wanted to ask for an informed opinion on whether I should avoid a non-HSM version of a Sigma 50-500. I'd hope it was cheaper but is it a false economy vs the HSM equivalent ?

My body is an A300

Are you sure there is an HSM version of the 50-500 in Sony fit?

there are a lot of Sigmas that don't have the sony/minolta mount. check on their website to know which ones :)

Good Q. The advert said "Note - this is the NON HSM version." - led me to assume it was the lesser cousin of two

I don't know too be honest - certain lenses never got an "HSM" version - ie the 12-24 or the 30mm f/1.4

I suspect there never was an HSM version but its very possible I am talking rubbish :)

I am a previous Sony user ( A200 ) couple of yrs ago , and just returning to Sony ( A450 coming this week ).
Its got the 18-55 kit lens which I understand is a move up from the previous 18-70 lens , however I intend to source a Tamron 17-50 f2.8 as a replacement which I think might be more useful for indoor shots ( had one with the A200 ) .

Anyone any idea of the resale value of the 18-55 ( unused ) and is here a good place to sell it , I remember that I couldn"t sell the 18-70 kit lens and actuall gave it away .

TIA

Julian

I got £75 for my 18-55 lens straight out of my A500 I last month (with the £80 cashback and £75 for the lens, that was a nice deal!)

I still keep an 18-55 kit lens as they are excellent.

I'm a nice chap ! just for you to know !

on more serious note - there is one for 50quid here in TP . I think you have better chances to sell it in evilbay, just remember that they take around 12% total of the amount you'll get from sales.

Not been around for a while - but just noticed how cheap the 16-80mm CZ is:

http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/49126/show.html

Cheaper than the 16-105mm I have.

I hear Sony are replacing it though, so maybe this is why? Wondering whether this is worth the upgrade for me?

I noticed the price decrease as it weren't too far back when it was selling for £500, I wonder what Sony might replace it with? possibly a FF version?

yeah ! I know how you feel :( .

Was considering placing an advert for s/h Tamron 17-50 f2.8 as a replacement for the 18-55 kit lens when it arrives this week .
Fund are tight , just seen the Sigma 18-50 f2.8-4.5 DC OS HSM for £169 ( new ) and was wondering if its a worthwhile purchase .

Just got me the a450 to replace my a200, and I'm lovin it!! I am still very much at a basic level with my photography, but I can easily start with the 450 where I left of with the 200. The extra MP and 7fps is just great and I really look forward to having as much fun with this as I did with the a200.

Now to remember how to change my sig :bonk:

is it good then? I might buy one for my birthday or Christmas but i need to purchase a few more lenses before I think about upgrading my body.

the one thing I love about Sony is how robust they are! I've dropped my Sony a300 and lenses loads of times during weddings and events etc. and they are still working to date.
