A700:love:

Wonder how the replacement will be, hopefully better "weathersealed":p

How about starting a "Calling all Sony Alpha 700 users!" thread muhahah

have you had any problems?
Sony don't make any claims for either the A700/A850/A900 to be weatherproof but they seem to stand up extremely well.
& of course there are no "weatherproof" lenses in the mount ...

i think PAS needs a more weatherproof camera due to the fact he lives in stormy scotland ;)
noticed where I live? ;) it's wetter in the West.
seriously, I once virtually killed a KM 7D in rain but I've never had a hint of a problem with the A700 in similar circumstances.

yea had problem with a leaking viewfinder(wasnt sealed it turned out), got it back meant to be repaired - glass was moving around still! third time - glass secured so hopefully sealed now:thumbs: time will tell....

no weatherproof, but not had any problems with my sigma now... and few other guys from the motox hasnt had any problems with theirs either!

Had a meet with Sony yesterday and got to play with

A500

A550

A850

and all three are superb. Have to say I am kinda gutted that I have a D700 as the A850 coupled with CZ glass is mint, proper mint. The best news is that the retail of all three cameras is very very sensible.

would be interesting if you could give more info on the A5xx series user experience - not too much info other than specs. out yet.

Sure, well they feel like the 230 and 380 but thankfully are far more substantial and weighty, but not overly but they have got a much better grip for both male and female photographers. Nice ergonomics, easy access for on the fly changes and a good upgrade. Fast cameras, good resolution and pricing that will likely challenge C/N. Auto HDR is very nice and have tested it. Clever stuff without the god awful tone mapping....

The new f/2.8 lens is a corker too and is going to be really well priced.

Sony doing it right again after the abject disaster that is the 230/380 build and pricing.

30/2.8 DT SAM Macro or the 28-75/2.8 SAM?
from what I've heard the pricing for the 28-75 is likley to be way higher than the apparently similar (minus SAM) Tamron that it's based on ...

tbh I don't think that at least A230 pricing is that bad now - £350 with the much improved kit lens still makes it 1 of the cheapest.

Doesnt sound such a bad idea does it!

I would love a whole Sony, Canon, Nikon section etc but I think its just logistically a nightmare for the mods and admin to move all the old threads manually.

No harm in starting a new thread though...

I wonder when Sony will add HD movie option to Alpha series?

in their words when they "can do it right" - they don't believe any of their competitors' implementations is.
that's pretty much what they said about LiveView too.

Yes, I read about it somewhere where they said that they will make it when they decide its done right... I also read some rumours about A750 or A950, that will have HD movie in it. I would like to see some not expensive body, like A500 with movie option and abilities like 5D MarkII...

Has anyone else had a hot pixel problem with their A700? I was shootign tethered the other night for a couple of hours and there are some wierd marks on theimage which it has been suggested are hot pixels.

Also is there any way to adjust the focus point from the desktop when shooting tethered? I think the control system is quite limited (but better than nothing).

Another question: is that all about A600, A750 or A950 only a roumor, or is there a bit of truth in it?
Do you think Sony is going to come up with new models soon?

the A700 is definitely due a replacement & I wouldn't be at all surprised to see 2 different versions - look at A3xx & A5xx series.

So, if there are 2 versions of the a700, how many Sony dSLRs will they have in their lineup LOL

#1 a230
#2 a330
#3 a380
#4 a500
#5 a550
#6 a730 * maybe?
#7 a780 * maybe?
#8 a850
#9 a900

I think there might be holes in the Sony lineup above, maybe we'll get a a6xx range in the future :p
Even without the a700 relacement, they still have 8 dSLRs in the range! I just wish there were as many new lenses as cameras!

[both Nikon and Canon have 9 dSLRs in the range, so maybe 9 is the magic number!]

I'm looking for a cheap zoom lens (under £100) for my Sony A200 if anyone can recommend me anything. This will hopefully complement the kit lens.

I think there was a Tokina 100mm 3.5 which was cheap.. hard to catch it now...

That won't fit an Alpha camera though because it's MD mount.

uu... too bad.. is there a mount adapter for it?

Dilema - sent off my sigma HSM lens off for repair as it stopped autofocussing. Its the only HSM lens I have and broke whilst in use, as all my other none-HSM lenses worked I assumed it was the lens, but it turns out its the circuitary that drives the HSM on my A100 thats gone haywire. As I have only one HSM (the 70-200) lens so far, do I bother with a repair (I have a beercan so could get by), put the money of the repair towards a new body, giving me a spare second body for use with the other lenses, or sell the HSM lens which is only 6 months old and keep going with none HSM lenses (not really an option I'd consider and awaiting "I'll take it off your hands for a tenner comments!". To help me make my decision can anyone recommend camera repair places for A100 other than sony and have an estimate of price for the repair? Are there still A700s to be had at 500 quid and if not which of the newer sony stable mates would you recommend for wildlife photography? TIA for your replies.

PS cant speak highly enough of sigmas service

if Sigma can be sure that it isn't the lens I would tend not to get the A100 repaired (btw how are you sure that it's the A100 circuitry that has gone haywire?) & put the money toward a new body leaving you with the a100 as a backup/2nd body.
If you can't find a cheap A700 then the new A500/A550 look quite impressive although I don't think that the build quality of the body will be upto A700/A850/A900 standards.

Sigma put my lens on their test body it worked fine, they put a brand new lens on my camera, it didnt work and it did when they moved it to their test rig. As my none HSM lenses work fine they deducted that only the HSM circuitary in the camera had fried. I have just seen the specs for the A550 and think I'm sold, costs less than my A100 did new too as I got one when they first came out!
