Yeah the reviews on dxyum say that exact thing but for the money providing its in good condition which he says it is i think its not a bad pick up, hes also selling a 35-105 minolta lens as well which im tempted by.

Alright, still loving it, i should post up some photos but im a little afraid of gettin shot down and most of them are of cars anyway. lol.

Post away!! Don't be scared to post anything, wether it's good or bad!

It's the best way to learn what you are doing wrong, or doing right!!

Plus, cars are a very popular subject on these forums, so loads of people will want to see them.........
 
I actually took a load of photos when i went to Colorado skiing which turned out ok, sunset whilst on top of the mountain looked pretty good. :)

But you lot are right, im not going to learn much if i dont get any feedback.
 
My Sony A900 + Tamron 17-35 is on the way, and all should arrive by the end of the week.

Any general advice for a die-in-the-wool Nikon chap? :)
 
Picked up the lens last night, excellent condition to be fair, very happy with it and as for the build quality i havent got any complains, but then i havent got anything of decent quality to compare it to, seems solid enough ***. Just need to use it now. lol.

I have this exact lens and it is on my camera 90% of the time. Only using the 18-70 when I need to go wider.

Thats good to know, how do you find it? Good lens? Reviews seem pretty good on dyxum as well. I read that you can mod it to get AF in macro mode as well.

I think it is a great lens, I am on my second copy. Bought the first one with fungus for £12, cleaned it and it was fine until I decided to strip it again, eventually I broke it. My current copy is in excellent condition and cost me £45 along with my 100-200.

In my flickr, most of the zoo, wildlife and War & peace shots are with it.

I was exactly the same! Hardly ever came off my A100!

It's a great quality lens for the money and I can't recommend it highly enough!

I bought it with my my Minolta 7000 around 10 years ago, then used it on my 7000i, then used it again on my 9000i, then when I moved to digital, I used it on my a100, and finally on my a200!

Was very sad to see it go, but after I bought my Tamron 18-200mm, I knew it wouldn't get much use, so I sold it on.

How much does the seller want for it?

I would be very tempted for that price, you could always stick it on Ebay, they go for around £65-75 at the moment.
 
Are there any signs of an A700 replacement yet? It must be about due for it by now.

Re: a900

For the best IQ use any RAW converter other than ACR! This is especially true for long exposures or High ISOs where noise starts to creep in. ACR seems to give a blotchy output with the a900 files, which is very similar to what was seen when the a700 was released (but was fixed)

I think C1 or DXO Pro are considered the best for the a900. Unfortunatly I'm hooked on the LR workflow, so I'm still using ACR.

Been tempted to upgrade my DXO license (I currently have Standard rather than Elite) and just use this for the RAW conversion to DNG, but have been hoping for an ACR release which fixes the issue which Adobe don't seem to think exists.

Thanks - I have C1 (which is an excellent converter) and Lightroom,

I don't really do high ISO stuff, so I'm not worried about noise, so if LR does OK at base ISO thats great.

I only have an A900 and a Tamron 17-35 so far - over the weekend I'll take the A900 and my D700 both equipped with 17-35's and see if I can do some real world comparisons. I find the D700 a bit lacking for what I call tree line acuity..so hoping the extra res. will allow me to do A2 prints more comfortably.

Looking forward to it - I really like the size of the A900, very compact for a full frame camera :)
