haven't had any problems with mine so can't really say.
I would imagine that you would either go through your retailer or contact Sony support.

hi guys, been using the sony for several months, and was quite impressed with the quality:price i paid for. But starting to feel the limit of slow aperture and low reach. Would getting a tripod actually improve my condition?

I kept the 300 when i bought my 700. This is going to sound pretty silly, but the 300's a better shaped body and I have quite big hands. Personally, the 700 isn't as comfortable and bigger too. I like the LV for street hipshots etc. However slinging both over my head for several hours gave me odd backache, so have to desist on that ploy!

depends what you are taking pictures of.
if they are moving objects but you have to use slow shutter because of a small max aperture then probably not as you'll still get motion blur, if it's static objects/landscape then quite possibly.
If I understand your complaint about reach (focal length?) then a tripod isn't going to help this.

Sounds like some different glass may be the answer?

okay guys....one for the lighting experts amongst us.i wanted to use wireless flash positioned at 45% to "the model"(wifey)in a dimly lit room to get an effect i was after, but as you know,to use the sony flash wirelessly, you have to have the pop up flash up to fire it,but it also fires the pop up flash..which i don't want happening.i tried to cover up the pop up flash, but this prevented it fireing the wireless flash..anyone with any ideas?

I have done this before, it was a bit of trial and error, I used some Blutack and a bit of cardboard. You have to leave a gap between the cardboard and the pop up flash, so the off camera flash can see the pop up one.

You are supposed to be able to use a piece of exposed film negative over it as well, the signal will pass through, but not the light.

Just wondering whats reliability like on the A700? And would you just contact Sony direct if you had a problem?

I would imagine reliability is the same as any other similar model on the market. If you do have a problem, it is best to go direct to Sony as you will save time that way (although if you bought it on the high street, then taking it back to a physical shop would save you the postage).

Lol, was just about to post, the A700 is cracking I think I'll be buying one next week, its a dream to hold, the Hi-Res screen is incredible and I love the way you control it with the D-Pad and the back screen instead of the A300 with the constant button pressing!

The A300 will be going for sale very soon me thinks........

cheers leaky5....sorry for the late reply, but somehow your reply got through the net :bonk:.i will give it a try if i can get some old film negative...maybe a museum

The theory is that you hold the shutter down half way then use the joystick to change the focus point. My fingers can't work that way so I hgave to focus and reframe.
you can choose the focus point that you want to use before even putting the camera to your eye.
use Fn button, set AF to local & use the joystick to select focus point using the small diagram on the rear screen

Chris, if you don't mind me asking, how much did you get for it, where did you sell it and what accessories did you sell with it.

I think my a200 will be going up soon.

I sold it over at AV Forums, got £300 for it, just sold it with the Kit Lens, and Minolta 35-70 that I got for a tenner and a 4GB CF Card.

Judas!!!!!

PS: I've been tempted with the D90 too!:naughty:

Its only because I have the Sigma 10-20 thats holding me back now, I know I could sell my Minolta 50mm f1.7 and get a Nikon 50mm but the lack of in body IS has put me off.
Like the look of the the 18-105 VR Kit lens though :bang:

I am wonder what to spend some money on at the moment, I have £375 to spend.

There are no lenses in that price range that I want, so new glass is not on my list. There a 3 options I am mulling over.

1/ Buy lots of bits and pieces, grip, 1.5x converter etc.

2/ Sell all the Sony kit in my signature, add the £375 to it and buy a D90 with 18-105 and maybe a 50mm. Trouble is this will leave me with no lenses longer than 105 and I will be unlikely to be able to afford any more lenses for a while.

3/ Sell the a200+kit lens (for appox. £200) and buy an a700 body. No point waiting for an a700 replacement as that would be out of my price range.

Option 3 is looking like the best one at the moment.

Anyone else have any views on what I should do ?

Still have not really decided what to do, I am going to put the a200 up soon in the classifieds.

The sale alone of the a200 + the cash I have should get me an a700, which would be the practical things to do. All my lenses and flash would still be usable.

If I sold everything, I should be able to get a D90 + Sigma 70-300 APO, maybe even stretch to a nifty 50.

The Nikon route will give me a camera with slightly newer technology and new lenses, but will loose IS on the longer lens.

I never planned to stay with Sony for ever and this might be the only chance I get to do this for quite a while.
