Looking for a NP-FM500H battery for my A300 but baulking a little at the prices for a Sony one, are there any good reputable third party batteries out there?
up until very recently Wilkinson Cameras was doing the genuine Sony for £25 but they've gone back up now.
Picstop (who I have used for other things with no problems) have an equivalent http://www.picstop.co.uk/Digital-Camera-Battery/Sony-NP-FM500H-Digital-Camera-Battery---Equivalent? for £30.
It's probably the same as you would get from eBay cheaper but if you want the security of buying from a known UK supplier...
There's also an Amazon market seller http://www.amazon.co.uk/RECHARGEABL...2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1235053680&sr=8-2

Got the shipping notice from RGB for my 70-400mm.
Tomorrow can't come soon enough

arrived this morning  but the weather is crap today so no real chance to test :shake:

apologies for reflections in the box :whistling:

Ok call me daft, but what does this mean. I have seen a few comments about stripping gears in various forums......why does it happen and what happens?

As stan says, they use plastic gears and the A700 has a very powerful AF motor.Thankfully my 50-500 hasn't suffered the same fate but, like stan's my 105 macro did last year.

I'm looking to buy a tripod... are they camera specific? i mean, do all dslr tripods fit sony (and the other brands) or should i look for one with a specific mount?

jacobs were doing it for £999 today at focus...
only £20 cheaper then - I can live with that as the travel would have been considerably more.

it's a standard screw thread

As Heidfist said Tripods are a standard screw size. If ya want to get a really good tripod for the price then look at the red snapper tripods. less than 100 quid and its as good as tripods up to 300 quid in price

the A700 stripped the gears on my Sigma 24-70 today! :annoyed:

I'm hoping I can send it direct to Sigma, will ring them tomorrow.

Had a look on Sigma's site this morning and I can send the lens direct to them so hopefully it'll be a bit quicker that going via the retailer.

Assuming that they are aware of the Sony A700/Sigma AF problem, do you think that they will repair it to a better standard to prevent recurrence or am I being a tad over optimistic?

they are aware of the Sony (not just A700) problem.
I had an A100 using friend who had a 70-300 APO & a 50-500mm repaired by them & both later failed again. Admittedly that was over a year ago so they may have changed components by now.

I thought it was just the A700 and possibly the A900, didn't realise the issue went all the way back to the A100. Interestingly I have the 50-500 and it has been fine and it has been well used.

if sigma are aware of the problem, then it's about time they addressed it.....or stop selling their lens in sony fit,as there's no point in us buying them if we keep having to send them back for repair..under warranty or not.

Indeed. You would think they would at least eradicate the problem in repairs by replacing the plastic with metal or some other way.

exactly marc...it really gets my back up when companies are aware of problems, and continue to do nothing about it.since i've had my 105 macro back from them,i've hardly used it...but when i have,it's been used in MF and not AF,otherwise would i have sent it back for a second time.i think if i have another lens go,then i will be replacing them with either sony or tamron lens.

Only problem there is Tamron don't do a 24-70 f2.8 and we're both aware of the Sony price! :runaway:

true marc, but i could live with loosing 4mm at the wide end and get the 28-75 F/2.8.i still have my 17-70 for anything wide.

Is the 28-75 on a par with the Sigma? Having said that I doubt whether I'd get the opportunity to swap as Sigma will just repair the lens, no chance of a refund.

The A200/A300/A350 all use the upgraded motor as well the A700 & A900.
I believe that Sigma are supposed to have addressed this with current production but can you imagine how many lenses are in stock all around the world from before production changes ...

& Sigma now do a 24-70 HSM (although tbh if you are going to spend that much just get a Zeiss for a little more :) ).
