welcome selkie...they're a great bunch on here, sort of our own little forum within a forum IYSWIM

as fabs said..the A100 is still a great camera..you might be better off investing in some glass...maybe a replacement for your kit lens, like the sigma 17-70,or a 75-300 which would be what you need for bird shots etc...or the 105 sigma for your macro work.....so much kit,so little money ;)

I know, I find it quite depressing!
I'm actually on a photography degree in my first year, and as we've been using film & darkrooms, everything has been so costly :( I'll end up with a degree in photography but no kit to use it with!!!

I am definitely going to track down a 50mm lens as I've wanted one for a while, and I'm watching a Minolta one on eBay. Also have my eye on a Minolta 70-300 and a Sigma 400mm lens.. going to hold off on the body.

I do love the A100 and I think it does everything I need it to right now :)

so much wisdom for one so young

Just wondering if anyone knows what price the Sony 75-300mm lens is in Currys/PC World, their website doesn't seem to be listing them just now and I've not been able to get into a store.
there is a rumour that lens is about to be replaced.
David Kilpatrick reckons that the Tamron is better (& cheaper).

£157 from Warehouse Express, probably cheaper elsewhere if you search hard enough.

Aye I`ve seen it a lot cheaper on line. I just remember currys had them for 200. Think thats the retail price...

I keep looking at the beercan lenses on Ebay but have now started looking at the tamron

A300 arrived Thursday.

Decent day today so took it to daughters' tennis lesson and took picture of a mountain dog puppy.

The reason for choosing the A300 over the A200 was Live view and tilting screen.

Glad I did as I was able to put the camera on the floor and get level with the puppy without having to lie on the cold damp grass!

Anyway, image follows:

i've used this technique on the floor, and the tilting liveview is great for this

well...got myself the grip for the A700 yesterday....then walked back to the car to find a parking ticket as both myself and my wife had forgotten to display her disabled/blue badge :bang:

then,my daughter rang me to say that out fascia and guttering had fallen down off the extension/pine end :bang: :bang:

i can't wait for 2009 to end at this rate....:bonk:

Oh Stan, I feel your pain. I'm paranoid about my Blue Badge, always end up going back twenty seconds later to check I've put it on the dash! :bang:

At least you've got the grip to play with, nice isn't it? :naughty:

rang the number on the ticket and explained that she has the badge, and the woman said to write a letter explaining, and send in photocopies of jackie's badge...and they may waive the fine.we'll have to wait and see...

the grip is wonderful...it was on the A700 within a minute of getting into the hotel room :woot:

Hopefully they'l waive the fine, let us know what happens.

Yeah, I've had Canon and Nikon users raving about the A700 grip.

fingers crossed eh marc...

the grip for my A350 is a toy in comparisson, and the amount of control/buttons that are an absolute must have IMO...i'm just gutted that i didn't get it before the price went up in cameraworld..:bonk:

marc, have you seen the rear screen protector that sony are selling for the A700?there's one in the catalogue i picked up at the show yesterday...similat to those i've seen on nikon cameras.also, they had the 300 F/2.8 and the new 70-400 G lens there...kid in a sweetshop or what

I bought the screen protector as soon as I bought the camera. Nikons seem to come with them as standard, I had to pay £10.

Step away from the wallet!

I've just splashed out on ebay again for another filter ring adaptor (62mm this time) and another holder, along with an NDx4 to add to my collection. Found a right good seller on ebay - apparently from Hong Kong, but his prices seem pretty good at the moment.

This will set me up so that I have a filter adaptor on each lens and a holder for each lens so that I'll not need to keep swapping them over each time I change a lens....

I'm looking for a standard zoom lens for my A700. At the moment i'm looking at either the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 and the Tamron 17-50 f2.8. Has anyone heard of any problems with the Sigma on the A700?
Cheers Daniel

I have the sigma and it's superb. Never used the Tamron though.

I would think the Tamron has a more useful range (25.5-75mm FF equiv.) than the Sigma (36-105mm FF equiv.) on an APS sensor. The Sigma seems to me to be neither wide enough at one end nor long enough at the other to be really useful. Whereas the Tamron nicely covers a good range around the old 50mm standard or normal length.
