welcome selkie...they're a great bunch on here,sort of our own little forum within a forum IYSWIM
as fabs said..the A100 is still a great camera..you might be better off investing in some glass...maybe a replacement for your kit lens,like the sigma 17-70,or a 75-300 which would be what you need for bird shots etc...or the 105 sigma for your macro work.....so much kit,so little money![]()
I know, I find it quite depressing!
I'm actually on a photography degree in my first year, and as we've been using film & darkrooms, everything has been so costly
I am definitely going to track down a 50mm lens as I've wanted one for a while, and I'm watching a Minolta one on eBay. Also have my eye on a Minolta 70-300 and a Sigma 400mm lens.. going to hold off on the body.
I do love the A100 and I think it does everything I need it to right now
