Personally, I don't think it's a good idea
Its not just the price of the item you need to be aware of. If your just lookin item price, then it can be much cheaper.
However, depending on the seller, and the type of item you have bought, you may be stung with import duty and VAT.
VAT is payable on most items coming into the UK, and most items you have to pay duty.
A quick google came up with this site that will help you calculate the import duty.
As i said before, it depends on the seller. Many chinese sellers on eBay will mark the item as a 'gift' on the import form so that it is not subject to extra charges. Some however, will not so you may want to check first.
