So it has happened... are you gonna be better or worse off?

For me, it hasn't made the slightest bit of difference. I couldn't see any mention of the NHS anywhere unless I've missed something :shrug:
 
He's got war to pay for, nobody is going to be better off.

I rarely drink, I don't smoke, but I do drive (Diesel).

Budget hits everyone unfortunately, some more than others.

<------Hence my location under my avatar... :D I've had more than enough of this country. British born people seem to get the worst deal of anyone living here. We are all treated like outcasts whilst the Government gives preferential treatment to immigrants. Whatever happened to national pride?

Does anyone think road tax should be got red of? Because look at the state of our roads (Maddog Mark can see what i am saying on this one) Our roads in Norfolk are often used by lorries which are really heavy and come down the road like at 40mph which is alot for a heavy lorries, they must do something for the road. Don't they?

My mum has a 1.0 car (980cc) and we get chucked about in that going down the roads here because they are so uneven.

Why don't they ask people to use under 2.0litres while they are in town and under 3.0litres while they are out in the country??

Depends if you apply for a visa and that, then if you are like out there for three years you become a OFT so to speak :)

Yes, I fully understand that I will be an immigrant in Canada.

I will be buying my own place, paying for my healthcare and providing a much needed service for pregnant women in Canada. I will not be receiving preferential treatment, expecting a free house and benefits/ Government handouts or being a drain to the country.

I have no qualms about immigrants here who actually contribute to the country - it's all the scroungers that come here expecting free housing and handouts that get my back up.

this isnt meant as a rhetorical question, but one i'd like to know the answer to. Are immigrants in Canada allowed to use the free health care? or do they have to pay?
 
I don't Drink
I don't Drive

I drink water
I drive a pedal bike
I prefer to eat healthey (apples mainly)

I have fish and chips once a week which is just around the corner from me so i use my bike to go and get that. Other than using electric, i don't use any other method that i need to pay for :)

I bet people on here that need to go to the shop in the morning leave it like untill 10 minutes before they go, on a bike you need to give yourself an exstra 20-30 minutes to get there and get back :)

And there is no way the goverment can make me pay for using my bike because they are envirment friendly transport (EFT) :)

They have to pay for the first 3 months.

thats a good idea.. they should do that here too. i think most immigrants would be happy enough with it as its only fair.

my missus is an 'immigrant' and when she needs health care she goes home. When i need healthcare i go with her.
they can either wait 10 months to have an operation for free here, of go home and have it tomorrow for £30
I dont even go to the dentist in the UK anymore, i go to one in Latvia. my last checkup was a fiver, and a filling is £20

this is yet another example of media bull****
there is not tax (or congestion charge) on 4x4s

daily mail spin, no doubt ( a bit like the immigrants being allowed to come here and sign on the dole - which they arent allowed to do)
 
Just seen the article on the beeb website which shows the new car tax rulings -

My car is a Mondeo Zetec 1.8 petrol (125bhp) which at the moment costs me £165 per year road tax.

The new table shows my car (which produces 184g/km) will pay £260 next year. :shake:

Just had a quick look at the Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDI (170BHP), that only knocks out 151g/km which is £150. Time for a change of car me thinks.....
 
i'm confused by it all. parkers.co.uk says my car will be over £400 tax in 2009
but my car is a 2004 car, and i though that was previous to all this emission related tax stuff?

looking at the info on car tax bands, i will imagine that petrol cars will be worth nothing soon. everyone will buy a diesel.

in fact i traded my car in for a diesel yesterday, but i blew it up 8 miles down the road. they took it back, gave me a refund and i got my old car back :)
 
nope. Some pickup type 4x4's are classed as commercial vehicles, but then some are classed as PLG, and subject to the normal tax classes.

Weirdly enough both me and my boss both drive Nissan Navaras, his is registered as an LGV, commerical vehicle, mine is registered as a PLG. They're exactly the same! Luckily the difference is about a fiver at the moment and not worth worrying about, but still, why the difference :shrug:

From April 2008 £5,435 is your personal allowance (ie tax free).

You then pay 20% income tax on the next £36,000 and then 40% thereafter.

National insurance is based on 11% between £105 and £770 per week, and then 1% after.

So if you're earning £180 a week (£9,360 per year) you will pay £8.25 NI and £15.10 income tax, so therefore £156.65 after deductions.

Thats from next month, but would you believe you're (on low wage) paying alot more tax in the upcoming tax year. So much for a labour government. Someone on £34k is paying about £300 less tax from April, someone on £8k is paying 50% more. Doesn't add up does it? Well they abolished the 10% band. Which means for those earning say £7.5k, they'll be paying 20% tax instead of 10%.

So whilst everyone moans about the car tax, booze tax and fag tax going up, how about thinking what it would be like to be in the crap situation of earning £7.5k, your tax doubles and you can't afford to buy a car to pay road fund licence on anyway.
