Mrs Nod's just told me it's on the BBC site.

Not remotely. Just no desire to be preached to....which is exactly what you did.

For every testament quote. I could follow with something from Harry Potter.

They were good books too.

I am a Lord of the Rings man myself :)

What did it say?

Having been forced to say it 6 days a week from the age of 5 to 16, it expected you to worship a deity which you did not believe in, because the teachers could only resort to threats and violence to silence your questioning.

Our father who art in heaven, hallowed be your name

That is what we were forced to say and believe.

I really had a problem with "original sin", where the teacher tried to tell you that you were born unclean, and were guilty in some way, for some act which probably never existed.

"Religion" - the ultimate way to scare and control the masses.

What do you mean scare & control," your will burn in hell" :D

I'm rather more familiar with the hail mary side. I guess I wasn't a fabulous Catholic lol.

When I was at infant and primary school, we had to read the Catechism every morning, that was just after attending assembly. Please don't get me started on how many of my school hours were wasted on reciting the rosary, where you had to say the "Hail Mary" about ten times, with one "Our Father" punctuating each set of ten.

That maybe how you perceive it and indeed if threats and violence were used to silence your questions then it is no surprise that you rejected it - but is that the way God wants people to learn about him ... does God reject questioning or does he view those who seek to establish truth honourable?

Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.
(Acts 17:11)

Consider ALL that is said in that Lord's Prayer and how much of it relates to mankind rather than giving to God or worshiping him ... the giving of food to us, the forgiveness of our sins and protection from evil!
If God is The Creator, just consider how many things he will provide you with today, even though you may reject him or maybe not give him a thought.
Consider also how Jesus taught others about God ... he did so with kindness and with love, not with threats and punishments ... don't blame God for the failures of those who claim to represent him but don't, or who are merely doing it because they themselves are forced into it by, for example, a school curriculum.

More preaching....marvellous.

You are preaching an alternative Viv but you are intolerant of the views of others ... what this thread started about!

Well now we are all being preached to, maybe now is a good time to lock the thread on the "no religion" clause. Even though that bilge is quite amusing!

Bit like your views on those that follow bullfighting eh.

Maybe Ricardo, however torturing and killing animals is not in the same league as defending God in my view ... your view maybe different :)

And I think we have come to the point where this thread is now starting to be in breach of our no religion rule. Mind the doors folks
