Hey, I got my speedlite in april so it's fairly new. It's always been looked after perfectly I've never dropped it or banged it or anything. However the other day I picked it up to put on my cam and I heard a rattling noise that sounded like something loose. I then noticed it was a loose peice of rectangular glass in the flash head. But since then loose peice has got jammed against something, so when I turn the flash on it makes a horrible grinding noise and the "zoom" function constantly flashes and won't let me change any settings on the flash. The flash still fires though if I press the pilot button.

Hopefully someone can make sense of that. I was thinking of opening the flash myself but I don't want to risk damaging it. Will it still be covered under canons warranty or should I get it repaired somewhere?

Giving them a ring sounds like a good idea. I still have no idea how it happened, like I said. I'm very careful with all my equipment and it was fine the day before! The only thing I can think of is if my other half accidently knocked it off my desk without telling me!!

If canon won't cover it does anyone have any idea of how much it might be to repair?

warranty to canon, should be fairly no questions asked as its < 4 months old

Sendean cameras are a good shout for repairs, turned my 430 with a broken foot around friday lunchtime (posted) to tuesday 9AM (delivered)

make sure its fully discharged before opening they can be dangerous to prod about in!

Second that, I had one apart as a kid, damn thing knocked me off me off my feet. Still remember it thirty years on.........

I'm on holiday at the moment so I'll give canon a ring when I get home. Sendean looks good, any idea on the price?

no idea will depend on the fix needed. I had a foot replaced and it was 89+vat (woulda been 49 for a mkI) I'd drop them an email once I'd heard from canon, or call em

If.. canon wont sort it out FOC, then you should look to see if you have accidental damage cover on your home contents insurance policy as they should cover it if you have it on your policy.

I've just had to do that after my tripod and old 400mm got knocked over.. goodnight sweetheart to the lens, beyond repair..
The insurance company where as good as gold, I just got a couple of quotes for a new replacement and they sent me a cheque.
