Boundary Changes

Thats the one, used to be called the Ford Road as that is were the Ford Factory was, Jaguar now, is now called the Halewood road. Separated by Runcorn bridge..
Excellent, I used to go there to one of our factories, Dista, just past halewood, together with the cluster of other pharma plants.

The site was like that movie, every night the walls seem to change. And as a bonus someone would nick the wheels of my car.

Our local council were trying to give out yet ANOTHER bin! We already have 3 wheelies + a box for paper & cardboard.

The new one is going to be small & is for food waste. FOOD WASTE?!?!? Do they think I got this belly by wasting food. :) There's virtually no food wasted in our house + who wants rotting food hanging about attracting vermin & flies, especially in Summer.

Same here, I cook just enough without waste. Although they maybe thinking of natural food stuffs such as peels etc, but surely there would not be enough to warrant another bin

As a cockney living atop a hill in Wales overlooking the Dee estuary ,I can quiet honestly say I look down on you all whether you be in Cheshire Lancashire of merseyside :banana::banana::banana:

No it was for cooked food waste mainly, John.
Any peel etc goes in the compost bin (oh yeah, that makes 4 large bins. I forgot about that, although it's mine not the councils) or in the garden waste/grass cuttings etc.

This recycling has gotten out of control Imo (n)
Over packaged goods, fruit & veg etc on poly trays wrapped in film, over 50% of our mail is junk & goes straight in the paper recycling ........... Drives me bonkers! :wacky:

Well no food wastage in ours, any left overs our dog soon takes care of that :)

Recyling system here is ludicrous. Think there are 7 different containers: brown bin garden waste, food waste, grey bin landfill, blue boxes for tins, one colour bags for paper, another colour for plastics and a cardboard bag. Who has the time or space to have all that crap lying around for 2 weeks? Why they can't have a dry recycling bin and bags for manky stuff like tins is beyond me.

Council next door has 3. Garden, recycling, landfill. Simple!

Even more stupid is that the councils have to pay fines to some PFI thieves if they don't send enough to the incinerator!

we have black bins for general waste and brown bins for garden waste ,tins have a large heavy duty bag ,as does plastic and paper .the only thing the stupid council haven't taken into account is the weather ,as when it blows as it often does on the hills of wales the bags either tie themselves in knots or decide to spill there contents up and down the turning ,if you can anticipate it i take them into the porch but if its a windy collection day the street looks like the tip ,much rather have a bin for each

I have.....

Black bin for general waste
Blue bin for recyclables
Brown bin for garden waste
Small green container for food waste (never gets used)

Better be careful, I'm pretty there is a valid bye law that from Chester they can shoot you with bow and arrow after midnight.

Quite lucky with bins here.
Blue bin for all recyclables, including glass... No sorting required.
Green bin for everything else but food.
Little black bin for food which sits outside (lockable), which comes with a little caddy for the kitchen.
With peels, skins eggshells etc., it gets used quite a lot.

yep but i ain't a welshman i just invaded there territory :banana::banana::banana::banana:

Got my own bow and arrows ta ,and I'm a good shot with it :ty:

Even more stupid, the waste goes to transfer staions, where its sorted into recycleable, waste for land fill and the burnables are baled up and sold to France and Germany for their power staions!
( yes we do keep some, but we don't have that many incinerators as yet, more are being built though. )

Are we still shipping waste to India too?

If you mean those charity bags that land on the door mat from time to time, I guess so :D

I thought we used Australia for that :)
Can't do that any more unfortunately, the criminals have taken over the prison and are now quite selective for some reason or other :D

Most of those `charity` bags are not as they seem & in our area the majority seem to be Eastern European's.

No, I was wondering how much waste is still being exported to the likes of India. Think it was mainly electronic stuff, but there was also a lot of landfill/toxic stuff hidden amongst it too, a few years ago.

They make great kitchen bin liners

I honestly don't know. The ones I deal with only ( apparently) export to Europe.

Exactly what I use em for.

Obviously I don't know the laws/rules, but I think stuff is/was allowed to be exported outside the UK/EU if it was deemed non repairable or not able to be re used here.
There was quite a stink (pardon the pun) not that many years ago about India taking in waste from many countries, inc the UK.
Might have all been sorted now?

trust me, us scoucers aren't too happy having wooleybacks and sheep shaggers associated with us, and the less said about those from St Helens(the incest capital of Britain) the better

The good folk of the Isle of Sheppey will be disappointed to hear that they lost the honour! :-)

Stick a couple of old shirts on top of the rubbish and they'll even take the bag away between normal collections!

Now why didn't I think of that?
Sounds like a plan to me

Ressidents can ring up a team called Bulky Bob, run by the council. They remove unwanted and broken house hold items free of charge, no item too big. Council probably figured it is less costly than clearing up after fly tippers..

We have that service too, but I heard recently they have started to charge for it now :(

OK fly tipping at the ready, not me of course as I will use my car to take rubbish to the tip / recycling centre. Don't mind using our car lugging rubbish to the tip, seems the bodywork is now pooped anyhow

OK fly tipping at the ready,
Although all is not lost, sometime ago, Mum left out a freezer to be collected ( in the free days)
A white van pulls up, a couple of guys in yellow jackets get out the van and say is that for collection?
Mum said blimey that was quick I only just phoned up this morning!
The freezer was quickly loaded up. A couple of days later, a council wagon turns up and asks where the freezer for collection is :D

I would suggest that it can only improve it

Thing is, with councils being so strapped for cash, it won't be long before there aren't too many recycling places to use. Our council has closed 2 over the last couple of years & folk are having to travel further distances.

We used to be able to take most things in the boot of the car (vans/commercial vehicles/trailers have needed a licence for some time now) but householders also now need a licence for stuff like bits of wood/bricks/tiles/plaster etc. So any small DIY jobs can be problematic.
They don't charge for the licence YET, but the limit is about 6 bags per year. The bags have to be within a certain size too & they aren't as big as the building supplies bags (50kg) of a few years ago.

Fly tipping is going to start increasing again.

Got a few council areas bordering my address, so will have to start looking further afield. Suppose we should all do more, to cut down on waste :)

That's what "they" are trying to make us do ;)

There is also quite a few around the country that are privately owned, well that is large companies, not councils.
So there must be money in it, just the inefficient councils yet again ;)

Seen plenty of shops popping up here and there, they are offering cash for old clothes. Sign says £x amount per Kilo of clothing, it is not local people running these shops either, seems like people trying to start a new life for themselves over here. Why can't we do that? We are so lazy!

Whatever happened to the Rag and Bone Man ?
