Really? What am I being smug about? I think Nikon are just as good as Canon, but I can't afford to use both so I use Canon ;)
 
I just mean by assuming that Canon users get on with taking photo's whilst Nikon users bang on about their camera's. I'm joking anyway! I've just moved to Nikon from Canon but see the merits in both systems. I'm going to MASSIVELY miss my 35L etc.
 
Well the choice of an affordable digital camera when I started was limited to the canon 350D, 20D or Nikon D70 / D70s. Hated the 350D, felt like a toy, and the Nikon D70 did delivery either, fell for the 20D and haven't looked back and added the 1D MKIIn to the collection.

If I was choosing now with the vast selection of camera's on offer, would I buy canon or nikon.....or..... not sure, one thing that does let nikon down is a decent 100-400mm zoom or affordable 400mm prime, very big gap in price to the 300mm f2.8 or 200-400mm f4 from the 300mm f4.
 
From what i've seen the Sigma 120-300 2.8 is good. Do they do it in Nikon mount?

I know you were joking! :lol: But there is a bit of truth in what topcatproduction said; it does seem that Canon>Nikon peeps tend to harp on about it more than the Nikon>Canons do, present company excepted, of course ;)

Just wait till I start with my fanboy D700 threads. TBH Canon can rave about the lenses, Nikon the bodies atm.
 
Minolota film SLR (refunded to to light leaking into the film compartment), various compacts, Nikon D40 and now a Nikon D80. Did look at a Canon 40d when I got the D80 but it didn't feel right.

Yes exactly and now i`m even more amazed that canon seem to be breaking away with 10 difference. And i say that because of the many threads/users that have changed over and pretty much most of the magazines always seem to have a pro who have changed from canon to nikon too?!?!?!
 
I shot quite a lot of different cameras years ago. My first SLR, was a Zenith, followed by an F2 and FM. I still have have the Nikons, but I've moved around a lot and I haven't a clue what happened to the other ones.

First DSLR was a 30D, bought about 6 months after it was discontinued, in South Africa. I don't like the small DXX bodies and the Canon + 17-85mm, new with warranty, was about 30% of the price of a D300 body. The 30D is excellent, but I've only added a flash because I have a feeling I'll go back to Nikon when I can afford it. No compelling reason, I just like them, and that's a good enough reason for me.
 
I'm currently in the market and considering either the D300s or the 7D if I go crop. Full frame it's between the D700 and the 5D MKII.

I change my mind every hour...

Having previously owned a D300 I know the build quality of the Nikon kit is as good as it comes but I like that with the extra resolution of the Canons I'd be given more room to crop.
 
Canon 'P' then to Pentax 'Spotmatic' and 100, then back to Canon, EOS 650, 100, 500, 20D,30D, I like the feel of the EOS and the fact that the majority of the EOS bodies have very similar controls, Film and Digital, and any EF lens will work on and EOS body, unlike Nikon who have motors in some bodies and motors in some lenses.

Wish I had kept my 'P' seies, I also have a Lieca 11, and a Yashica.

I can't remember why I bought my first Canon but it was a 2 megapixel compact. I was impressed by how beautifully engineered it was so I eventually upgraded to another Canon, a 7 megapixel compact.

When it came to buying a "proper" camera, I never considered any other manufacturer - I bought a Canon EOS 450D. This is, once more, a beautifully engineered piece of kit which also scales its complexity very well. It's easy to do simple things with a 450D, when you want to go further, it gets more complicated.

My friend, colleague and fellow forum member Andy Swinden has a Nikon D200 which I have fondled on a number of occasions. This seems really clunky by comparision with the Canon, even allowing for its metal bodied, higher weight.

I'm sticking with Canon.
 
Canon since the 1970s. Happy with results I get so no reason to look else where at the moment, I'm sure these days any other brand would work equally as well but I've been Canon for far too long now to change.
 
I'm one of "the others" :thinking:

My own camera is a Canon and I see me sticking with them for some time, I'm nowhere near getting "pro" gear so for now I'm happy with the prosumer options available to me.

At uni however, through their infinite wisdom, they went for Nikon so I regularly use D70/80/90/200/700 simply because they have a wider range of lenses than I do. I personally don't like the menu systems. I can work them fine but it seems more intuitive to me on the Canon systems.

Curretly looking very seriously at going for the 7D as next body as well as hopefully getting a 24-70 at the same time.

I have only had 2 cameras my first was a Nikon compact S210 and as I got more into photography and wanted to upgrade I wanted to stay with Nikon as I found the compact to be really well put together. And now I have a D3000 which I have been finding really easy to use despite not knowing anything about photography.
 
Was Canon, now Panasonic GF1 and LOVING IT!!!!

I try not to be limited by a particular vendor, life is too short for that. I have been building up my Canon for the last couple of years. I would definitely like to own a Nikon (probably D700) in the future.
 
I nearly picked "Always Nikon" but then went for other as I have had:

Nikon Coolpix compact
Olympus Mju compact
Panasonic FZ8 bridge camera
Nikon D60 DSLR

I researched and properly chose the Olympus, Panny & D60 - obviously now I've broken into the world of DSLR's and picked a system I intend on sticking with Nikon for the forseable future.
 
Have ever only owned 1, and thats a Sony, pretty sure that I will not jump camp when ready to upgrade due to investment in lenses if anyting else. Saying that I really like the concept of the panny gf1....so could be tempted at some point.
 
Apple has something around 4% of the market but (to us) a better product.

So popularity does not always translate to a better product. I think I'm right in saying that Betamax was the better product also.

It may say more about their marketing abilities than anything you can bullet point :D

Lots of Olympus film and then Digital cameras. First DSLR Sony and now Nikon.
 
I had a powershot A640 and moved to a D90. Mainly because for the price brand new here in Thailand, the D90 offered superior picture quality and came with a better kit lens.
 
I have a 5D, 50D jsut now and a G9 on its way. I used to have sony but sold it so if the need ever arose I could swap lens with freinds or hire them

If I could ever switch to a D700 + D90, with equivilant lens I think I would try it. But I am a happy canon shooter just now :D

I voted "other" as my first SLR was a Yashica but my first DSLR was a Nikon. I'm currently on my second Nikon and can't envision changing to another brand.

I did buy my wife a Canon Powershot for Xmas, though :help:
 
Started with a Canon film camera but sold that 5 years ago recently bought a Nikon D70 after playing around with gumbo's D50 can't see me going back to canon now
