Hi,

booked for the first time as the Brides father is a mate and he knows that we have a Bontempi organ in the spare room - it used to belong to my uncle, I know its a good one as it has a switch for M for manual mode and P for Professional mode.

I use the P setting because it plays a lot of tunes and does the work for you.

Anyway the real question was if any of you know where I can get some guitarists cheap, a mate said I should have one or two if I am starting a band and maybe some drums. I did try beating the bottom of some old oil drums into shape like one of those carribean bands, anyway I know they are not like the professional ones but they should fill in until I can affford to upgrade.

What sort of outfit do you think I should wear? A suit to blend in with the guests or some flares or draipipes so that I look a little more hip? I am letting my sidies grow as I want to develop a unique style.

Somebody else said I need some amps and decks, well we have a 13 ampere socket on our decking but I dont know how I will transport it to the reception. Do you think this is a good idea or could someone lend me theirs?

I thought I might need a contract so if anybody has a copy they can send that would be wicked, does not matter what sort of music contract as I am only starting out.

What do you think I should charge? I know I am not a Pro but I can now play Chopsticks and they are getting a full band, I thought maybe I could just turn up and if they like it we could arrange a price at the end of the reception or should I charge £20 for attending and £2.50 per track.

Anyway your help is really needed as the Wedding is this Saturday and they dont know this is my first one.

You would not really do this so why do so many take on photographic jobs without having the first clue how to do it, the equipment to do the job or not even a clue what to charge.

Mike

 that was funny to read but fully understand what you are saying.

I've never played an instrument before but quite fancy trying it - If you need a hand I'd love to help.

i am getting pretty good on the pots and pans, if you need a second drummer let me know, will work for all the sausage rolls i can eat, and the last dregs out of any pint glass, willing to travel if you pay bus fare.

I have an old acoustic up in the loft, may still have a few intact strings ... in fact the way I played it probably better if I remove any remaining ones and mime ... not much help but at least the band will look the part

LOL. I was really biting up till the last paragraph. :D

excellent :D...we used to call our keyboard player Jon Bontempi

Mike I think your under charging per track, you should be looking for at least £10 or maybe more after all you have gone to the effort of beating the oil drum to shape and learning how to play chopstiks. You don't want to under cut the likes of The Stereophonics or Coldplay they may get upset.

I can't be doing with all this modern carp.

I prefer entertainment of the old school variety such as Music Hall.

I am available for all occasions with the following kit list:

Washboard and thimble x 5.
Spoons, pair x 1.
Harmonica x 1

If pressed I can stretch to a small pair of cymbals for accompaniment.

Probably not...

I'm quite good at banging my own already!

No arguments or excessive banging, please.

I have my kids old tambourine, a penny whistle and some castanets that they don't use any more. I have practised a little, but could do with the experience. Any chance I could be the warm up act before the main gig? I would be happy with a packet of dry roasted as a snack, as long as I can hand out business cards and sell some CD's I have burnt as I would love to headline my own gigs soon, so would like to tout for business.

My Uncle Bob always takes his ukelele to weddings ...

[ETA ****** beat me to it:bang: ]

And please don't reply to this thread unless you are at least proficient with a penny-whistle...anyone who can only play the finger cymbals, your input isn't worthy :P

I am looking for a band for a gig in the summer I can offer a mug of horlicks each are you all up for it?

There's probably a "talkmusic" forum somewhere with post after post along these lines

I have a friend with a recording studio in his mums spare bedroom who says that he can produce an album for just £50 and his name on the cd, he says that all the "big" bands are stupid for paying thousands per cd as he has a MacBook now and that's basically all the big studios use anyway!

Didn't the big bands make do with 78s?

all those people who are telling you you need other instruments are talking so much tosh, ive been providing music with just my own flatulence for years - so long as you eat plenty of beans the night before its fine, and if they dont like it, they arent paying so who cares...

A bit late to this one, but I have an old Stylophone and I could do with some extra cash. Will be advertising for weddings soon but need some advice. Will the quality of the stylophone be up to the job or should I borrow or hire a massive organ. I've never used an organ before but how difficult can it be?

mind you we laugh but my mother (who has no floristry experience) has just been asked if she'd do the flowers for a freinds wedding on the grounds that she has a nice garden :bang:
