BMW Stop / Start warning light

12.4V sounds a little low for the battery charge. For a sealed AGM battery I would be looking at more like 12.8 to 12.9V. I'd certainly get it fully charged as a first step and then monitor to see how it's holding that charge and/or if that resolves the warning light.

Thanks. Just living with it for now until a) the battery gets bad enough that other things start showing up and i then HAVE to change it, b) I need to get rid of the warning light before trading it in.

Would go for option b right now if I did not need to front the wife !

That will be a cold morning where the car will just fail to start. Very unlikely there will be any other signs. If you know the battery is on it's way out, you may as well replace it now.

But it shows no signs of nearing failure, tested it the other night with engine stopped, air on and heated seats in for half an hour, started first time

Batteries don't really show signs of failing anymore, but once the cold mornings set in, they will start sapping the life out of a battery. Then one morning you will be lucky if the engine will even start to crank.

Late reply but after having car in for a service BMW recognise this issue and offer a free overnight battery trickle charge. It works... for a while!
I have now sold the car
