weekly Blondies 2012 52 wk52 BUSY - Finished !

Up #2 feels much better. The central train works well, the lines really draw the eye in and through the scene and the sheep on the lower right 1/3rd. Nice.

Hi Lynne :)

Gawd... Sorry, another I have got further behind than I thought :bonk:

Joy - Excellent original take on the theme :D Birds in Flight, so hard at times - well caught

Short Re-shoot - Nice image, would have liked to see some of the drink in the glass, but in any case, great background

Small - Lovely shot, Great colours, good dof and perfect composition

Straight - The Cows are Great, good detail when viewed large, nice idea.

Lines in the road, screams straight to me, good road to do, I had the same thought, but couldn't get to a road that was straight 'And' had no traffic

Letter - Very interesting take :D

I love the shot, was it a crop or a proper pano stitched together ??

Contrast - Love that, simple in design but very effective, love the bright colours

Contrast 2 - On a black background again viewed large, love it, perfect composition, Great whites and Blacks, well taken

Mineral - Like the way you have done this, adding the text is a nice idea, the background finishes it off nicely

Dard - Mmmmm lovely chocolate - Nice clear shot, shame about the broken chunks, but doesn't really distract from the image, well lit and good background

Time 1 - Like the point of view and the processing, works well for me

Time 2 - The strongest of the 2 for me, again I dont see the light on the door as an issue, a great feel to the shot

Body - Spot on focus for the theme, like the crop and the twig in the background, cute looking spider :)

Liquid - Oooo I like that, minor crit straighten to match railings, but great colours, and the movement well caught

Mineral re-shoot - Barbed wire never fails for me, great dof, liking the composition and the barb with just a bit of rust on, Perfect !!!!

Up - Good take on the theme, I'd clone the sheep out but apart from that I think it works well, nice winding track up the hill

Up 2 - Now that's more like it, much better colour too

Jeepers DK....many thanks for the mega catch up & very kind comments/crit...really appreciate you taking the time

Hi Lynne

UP #2 - much improved version of the shot - even tho the first was pretty good, this has a better comp and leads the eye up, so very much on theme.

Thanks Allan..def a better shot

Cheers matey

Wekk 37...Duo...knew what I wanted to do , unfortunately the sunset never really happened...hey ho. Converted to B&W as I also managed to mess up with exposure time & to top it all I've got mega dust bunnies :'( Had a go at cleaning but made it worse...trip to the camera shop coming up !

New windfarm at Marr , not easy to get a duo of these things as they ain't spaced very well but not too unhappy ( barring dust bunnies :bang:)

You're more than welcome... can't believe how far behind I was on some, hopefully I will be up to date with all soon, so it should be easy after then :suspect:

Number 1, is the best I would say. The landscape crop suits it well. The composition is good, although I would probably crop a bit off the bottom, also there is a little white bit just below the turbine on the right. Number 2 seems to have disappeared, but this one didn't work for me. It didn't have the impact of number 1, it seemed to be lacking a bit of contrast too,

Cheers Michael.....thanks for pointing out the white bit....ya can't get away with anything round here can ya  Re-edited & posted image....minus white bit

'ello, I keep meaning to visit some local turbines but never get around to it.

Of the 2, it's #1 for me. I like the silhouetted turbines and the hint of sunset rays. Tad off the bottom maybe and little bit of detail??

BTW, have you seen this clicky linky

Cheers.

Have to agree number 1 with a bit off the bottom not too much though. Theres a good feeling of both distance and isolation.

ohhh I love #1 - so atmospheric  for me the 2nd one is too tight a crop I think

Hey Lynne :)

Duo 1 - That is a lovely image, nice rays coming from the sun, good blacks and the turbines relatively caught in sequence, my fav of the 2

Duo 2 - You have froze the blades well, and the nice fluffy little clouds help fill the frame, nice shot

I like them both but #1 stands out for me. You've captured an atmospheric feel with it. I bet the sky was a lovely colour but I do feel using B&W has really worked.

Ta mister.....one day I'll get the hang of crops !

& yes I have

Thanks Summer....yeah not so keen on #2 myself , can't remember why I croped it so close either

Cheers Peter...the sky was pants....one very very bright colorful bit n the rest was boring , hence the B&W conversion . Gonna sneak up on a proper sunset there over the winter months I think :D

Good shots

#1 for me because of the comp, the sky, the atmosphere. Really do like that sky.

Thanks Sp

1stly...big thanks for all your comments , I've been quite slack in checking everyones threads lately for which I apologise but it's catch up time straight after this

twice in 2 weeks I've known exactly what I wanted to shoot for the theme & twice in 2 weeks the results have'nt been what I wanted :bang:

Found this weir on the way to the turbines...lovely walk along the canal in the sunshine with an ice-cream today  Had a play with the 10 stop plus CPL plus ND4 grad,no particular reason , just wanted to see what the effect was  Ended up with 3 as follows>>>

#1 My favorite I think ,had to alter WB in pp as can't be ar**d & have no idea how to set it manually with the 10 stopper .There was a bit of a breeze hence the tree movement & fiddled with the exposure in pp to brighten the dark bits...still not sussed metering properly :bonk:

Flow by llj666, on Flickr

#2 Had to try a B&W conversion , quite pleased with the result :)

Flow B&W by llj666, on Flickr

#3 color version of the above angle with shorter exposure....was struggling with exposure , then it dawned on me it was partly the direction of the light...coming in from the left so sort of shooting into the sun .Lots of pp to try n rescue it but my least favorite

Flow color by llj666, on Flickr

So , what have I learned today ?
I can use the 10 stop with fairly good results
I think my eye for landscape type shots is improving
My pp is def improving ...I think
I need to master exposure for this type of scene or learn how to blend 2 images
I really should learn how to save a WB in camera for use with the 10 stop
Regularly check for marks on my filters !
& last but not least....
When going out to wander in the countryside midge repellent is essential

hmmm I prefer no.3 but only because of the blurred trees on no.1 - this is the problem with long exposures on windy days

the B&W is fine but I seem to be in a colourful mood this week :p

no. 3 I love the angle and pov too

No1 for me i like the blur of the trees they are flowing with the wind

Thanks Allan....didn't think of flowing with the wind :bonk:

NUmber 2 for me Lynne, it looks great viewed on the black bg of flickr. Nice composition, good exposure, number 1 is almost there, but there is too much movement in the trees for me.

Cheers Michael....yup , you're right...viewed on black BG it really does work

Hi Lynne

Flow - all on theme
#1 - looks a bit yellow to me. Movement in the trees is too much for me but very nice composition and good take on the water. Best angle and pov of the three.

#2 - I think lacks impact, trees re blurred and distracting, sky a bit featurless.

#3- Again good comp, good water but fallen trunk in middle is a bit indistinct

Long time no comment - I'm sorry!

Anyway, down to business.

The 2nd tram is like a post card shot, well done.

I prefer the 1st 10 stopper shot, I'm not bothered about the blurred tress.
The fact that two are really blurred and almost on the thirds just adds to the scene for me.

The bicycle is nice, simple but effective.

Good to see you're still going, what is it, 80 odd weeks doing a challenge!!

#1 for me. I like the overall composition and muted colours. You've done well with the water...it's quite easy to go overboard, as I often do, and expose too long thereby having the water too smooth.

Although I like the overall composition, it does feel a bit central. I've tried a few crops but none improved.

#2 looks a bit flat (grey) on my laptop. I edited and underexposed a tad and this produced a bit more contrast, which I liked.

I actually like the tree in the center.

Cheers.

I like #1 as the overall image is really pleasing to the eye. At first I thought blue sky and fluffy clouds would have helped but then realised that the sky nicely compliments the blurred colour of the water. Nice one.

Many thanks SP....viewing on the netwbook you appear to be right...#1 does seem a little yellow, will try n revisit the pp! Sky is what sky is...I was really hoping for some nicer fluffy bits but it wasn't to be :'(

Hi stranger , thanks for stopping by...ye gods , has it really been 80+ weeks:eek: Appreciate your feedback & glad you like the 10 stop shot...I can see plenty more practice on this style :D

Cheers Andy....I knew you'd mention cropping somewhere  I really like these milky water shots so going over the top is gonna be hard to avoid:)

Thanks Peter , glad you like #1:thumbs:

Ooo No:1 for me too... a very milky looking flow

What I also like is the movement caught in some of the trees too, for me that's very effective, I would prefer the trees a bit greener but apart from that - Love it !!!!

Cheers DK , yeah ,think I over cooked the yellow saturation :(

Lynne, sorry I've not popped in before.. For Duo, I rather like #1, and think it works well on several counts.

For Flow, I really like #1, except for the tree movement... otherwise it would be my fave... Personally, there's something about #2 which isn't quite sitting right with me, but I can't quite put my finger on it... it's almost contrast, but I'm not sure it's that... sorry, that's of no help at all... I think of the 3, I'd have to go with #3

Hi Lynne, #1 for me as well. I don't mind the tree movement as I think the water is fantastic. It looks like a good place to go back to for autumn colours!:)

Hi Lynne,

Up, I love number one:clap: the silhouette is great with the sun rays!

Flow, I like all three, can't choose a favourite! I don't mind the slight yellow tint to number one, it looks very autumnal! I think you've done well, just the right amount of movement on the water

I prefer #2. The movement in the trees , as mentioned by others, spoils the first.
One point though: that fallen tree ..... sort of gets in the way?

Thanks for popping in John...I kinda feel the same about #2

Cheers Sarah...ummmm, can feel more trips to that place coming on over the winter ,glad you like the water , wasn't sure if I over did it :)

I very much like your...
"So , what have I learned today ?" bit - I must try and do this in future.
Also very much like the photos too esp #3

Thanks Mike...need to keep trying to learn whats right/wrong & writing down what I felt about the shots seems to help me remember

Thanks Bob....not a lot I could do about the fallen tree....no way was I gonna walk out there n try to shift it

& so to week 39....had a couple of ideas but no helpers so decided to have a go at people togging...not my favorite type of togging to say the least !

Tottled off to Clumber Park to see what I could get . Felt quite uncomfortable , mainly as there were loads of toddlers/young kids about, felt a bit...iffy is the best way to describe it. Was just about to give in & saw this...... :

Friendship by llj666, on Flickr

Not brilliant by any standard but quite pleased , espeially as I got old n young in the shot , hands being held ,arm in arm & a nice line through the image with the path

What did I learn today...

I'm really not comfortable with people photography...candid is not my thing

Not to give up...the shot you want may be just about to happen

B&W sometimes works better ...especially when loud colors are being worn

I really shouldn't sit on wet grass !

TTFN...hit me with your worst....:D

Hi Lynne,

Up - I like your take on this, number two of the tram would be my pick. Nice to see that the weather cooperated too!

Flow - I think they all work. I'm torn between the colour and mono, not sure which I prefer.

Friendship - I can relate to being uncomfortable photographing people. So, well done! :) As you said, you've got young and old in the same frame, and I like that. I think a bit of space between the two couples would have been nice, but you can't always have everything.

Hiya Lynne, I know what you mean about people togging, it certainly is something you like or dislike, so a big well done for going out and doing something out of your comfort zone. Composition looks fine to me and it certainly is great to get 2 different generations in the shot. Perhaps a step or 2 to the right to give them a little separation, but I know you can't always pan these shots. Looking at the large version of flickr, on the left and right hand side there appears to be a couple of darker areas, which look a tad "noisy" is it part of the pp or was it there in the original?

Thanks Nathalie.....a second or too later I took another shot of the 2 couples ....just as a young child ran in to view who I could'nt crop out :bonk:

Hi Michael , thanks for popping in  I'd parked my bum on a bench to try n look less obvious so couldn't move fast enough, got another shot but a child ran in to frame which spolied the whole thing :'( LOL....the darker areas you mention were a quite weak attempt at a subtle vignette.....

Big thumbs up for Friendship....well composed, slight crop from the right the remove the bush, maybe ( I know me and cropping!). Separation between the two couples has been mentioned.

B&w works well, as does the slight vignette.

Good show, lady !!

Hi Lynne

Friendship - now that is really very nice.

Like the fact that you have 2 couples (agree that separation might be better but you do have a lot of the back couple showing and one can almost imagine a connection on the theme.) Like the way that the lady in the front couple is looking with interest to one side. Agree with Andy that bush on right could go and would improve. The curve in the path is good capture too.
