weekly Blondies 2012 52 wk52 BUSY - Finished !

Hi, just dropping in for the first time. Apologies but I'll start with sweet.

I love those tins, the colours are amazing they look almost 3d. The mints do look like pills, not sure if there's a way around that, maybe have one of the tins open with the mints in it?

No worries...tis a mamoth task keeping up with all the threads so appreciate you popping in ...several ideas for a possible reshoot when one comes up...if I remember

Hi Lynne,

I'm going to go straight to your sweet shot......it's brilliant..I love it just the way it is!
Direction, not seen a plughole quite like that before...what a great take on the theme.
Fear, like this one alot, very well shot.
Sigh, I'm singing that song now...sigh!

I'll be popping back to see what you do in week 5.

All the best

Carol

Cheers Carol , much appreciate you popping by....just about got that song out of my head now :D

Hiya Lynne, apologies, I missed your sigh and sweet pics! Right, sweet first, I like this! Only thing I would do is to actually move the right hand tin a little further to the right, just to separate the sweets and the tin. A great effoert and well done!

Sigh, I like this and a good bit of pp work, I clicked large and to be honest it didn't seem to bad. The composition of the shot works very well for me and I the added text works ok with your chosen colour. It was certainly a tough theme to do.

Week 5 tomorrow!!

Thanks Michael...you're too kind about the flutterby...though I do have an idea for a reshoot which should work better...if I remember when reshoot crops up ! Like wise with the tins.....this is what I like about the 52's feedback...a fresh pair eyes often gives ideas that I miss

God I'm so glad I'm not doing this years 52, pencils are so much easier.
Sigh is a tough one, but this is not a poetry forum :D
Now is the poem yours or is it off a late 70's/ early 80's sit com that I cannot remember the name of. Apologies if the answer is somewhere in the thread, I've not read them all!

Sweet, yes the composition needs some work.
Possibly the tin lid slightly a jar on one of them showing sweets in the tin?
Did your customer tell you what the before and after sweets for for, ie before and after what  from the direction my mind has gone I can only think it would be better than smoking!

I hope today is a good theme.

Wish I had the imagination to come up with ideas for my own challenge...though pencils could be on the list

Damm this composition lark...one day , maybe I'll get it...no promises though :D

Hi Lynne
Just passing by trying to get some comments done on other 52ers. Liking your take on Direction, plenty of swirl.
The Sign is a nice idea but could do with a bit of colour increase as looks a tad dull unless its my screen.
Idea for Sweet, loving the tins, very good colour. Can only echo thoughts of others on pills and composition.
Its all going well though

Thanks Fazer ,appreciate you dropping by

Hi, sorry I've not been here earlier, but here is my 2d worth,

Direction: My favorite is no. 1. Lovely composition, nice colours and great idea for the theme.

Fear: I'd be frightened just standing by whilst you took that shot. I like the flame as it is, and love the glossy base and reflections.

Sigh: That bloody song is in my head now! Is that a butterfly? I don't think I've seen one like that. A nice image but I'm not keen on the text if I'm honest.

Sweet: Love it. Maybe a little colour in the mints would be good but the colour of the tins is fantastic. The lips look almost 3d. One question though; before and after what?

Thanks mister...

I like your take on the sweet theme a lot Lynne. The vibrant colours, sharp focus and high contrast all make for a cracking photograph. As someone said above, it has a 3D feel about it. All round good work. Iain

Cheers Ian...glad you like them

Hi Lynne , just trying to catch up with a few comments

Sigh - i like the idea but for me the colours are too insipid.

Sweet - good pic - lots of vibrant colours and definitely gets theme across. The contrast with background helps make it grab the attention.

Tahnks SPP.....:)

Love your butterfly idea. The sweets are great fun, thanks Mandy

Cheers Mandy

& No ,I have no idea "before & after"....but kinda think Before a kiss & After garlic bread :D

Fear – I like the use of the reflections. Nicely taken.

Sigh – Overall it doesn’t do a lot for me I’m afraid but do like the positioning and angle of the butterfly

Sweet - You’ve captured this one well

Hi Blondie - like your sweet very much. Composition and particularly the lighting. Highlights on tin look entirely natural to me. Mike

Cheers Mike

Thanks DS....nah...I'm not to keen either but have an idea for a reshoot should it ever come up

Where's your secure young lady ;)

We're patiently awaiting.... Hope you're not too busy shopping for camera gear :)

Cheers.

:p....I must admit to struggling with themes so far this year ( except for fear ) , secure has almost finished me off !

At Andy's request I've finally got round to Secure.....not happy with the idea or execution but really didn't like the theme :'(

Secure_filtered by llj666, on Flickr

There is a bit of dodgy cloning...had to remove my details & rushed :(

Thankfully Industry may well reboot my enthusiam...got a few ideas...but only got tomorrow to sort them....

Don't be so hard on yourself it works well ... we all want to secure our wallets from the clutches of those.

Hhhmmmm, I think you're being a bit hard on yourself here. You have: crisp whites, great depth and sharpness. Composition is good for me. Great idea..lady!!

Cheers and looking forward to Industry.

On a side note, if you not getting vibes from a theme, there's nowt wrong with either using a placeholder or using a Joker. We all get a bit  about certain themes...but we fight though them...or die trying :D

I am with Gramps on this Lynne, don't be so hard on yourself.
Its bang on theme, sharp, well lit and is creative, there's not much more to say, good work .
Iain

Hey Lynne I think it works well, great lighting and the wallet is lovely and sharp with great detail.

Some weeks will be harder than others and I think we've had some toughy's already. Personally industry is going to be tough for me and this snow isn't helping!

Plenty of support here to keep you going:-)

i love it, brilliant idea and the shot works well :)

I think you've done a really nice job Lynne, very good mid-tones, clear whites and a really original idea with good composition. I really like the padlock

Thanks Matey....uninspired to say the least but appears to have worked:eek: One day I'll understand this compostion lark but I'll take your word on it for now  Trying to avoid jokers , placeholders a no no as I'll forget to redo them...what with the meet , trying to get my head round which body to buy , loads of shots to process , POTY & photomatix to play with ...oh & work as well there just ain't anough hours in the day

Secure - I must admit I like this shot. Great idea

Cheers MM...

Cheers Goblin...this year seems so much tougher than last  Snow is great , though maybe doesn't quite suit Industry...ain't that just typical

i love it, brilliant idea and the shot works well :)

Thanks for popping in ...appreciate it

Nice shot. It would have worked well without the padlock but I think this extra addition really makes it. Well done.

Cheers DS...

Alas I'm more worried about driving in it than the photos! We have a light dusting of snow around here and it's impossible to get your car off the drive!

Another great week Lynne, your take on secure is fantastic. It's nicely composed, super sharp and perfectly lit. I look forward to seeing your take on industry :)

Snow tyres Marsha....they ROCK  Got a set on the front for the 1st time ever...WOW...seriously impressive grip :D

Woohooo..think I may have got my mojo back ( for this week anyway  ) but I'll leave it to you lot to confirm

Knew exactly what I wanted to shoot ....actually getting the shot however was a darn sight more difficult than I thought :bang: I live silly close to a rather large steel works....loads of opportunities I thought....& I was right....barring the dam metal fences & trees that surround the place ! Scouted it out last night & found a spot that sort of worked but still wasn't ideal...I was standing lower than the building & to one side precariously holding the camera through the metal fencing( make sense ?) so took a gamble on being able to straighten the perspective out in pp

Done 2 variations in pp.....

Industry B&W by llj666, on Flickr

Think I prefer the color version....lightly HDR'd ( photomatix is my 3rd best new friend - after snow tyres & a blue filter  ) I worked on the 1st chimney on the right being straight - not sure my eye's are straight though - not 100% with it but given the angle I had to shoot from I'm chuffed :D

I'm now free to spend the rest of this week catching up with all your threads

Colour for me, bricks and rust help bring out the 'industrial'.

I like them both but perhaps #2 needs to be darkened a bit? it's always more satisfying when you have to 'work' to get a shot

Cheers Summer.....yup , I was thinking that but as my pp ability is very limited I struggled to darken selective bits & still keep the detail in the square structure ?...One day I'll suss this pp malarky....along with composition

Bang on theme , cant get more industrious than a factory suppose... i think it needs a bit more pp to get the verticals right though.

Cheers

Steve

Oi ! Don't you start mister ..... flippin verticals.....If I could have stood directly in front of the building I think I'd have been ok....stood below the building , & to the right , so camera twisted through fencing to the left....had to settle for the far right chimney being as vertical as I could get it....the rest is an optical conclusion....honest :naughty:

Well i have had a couple glasses of red so that might have something to do with it lol...

Steve

Difficult to get the verticals right when there's so many, you get one straight the rest are wonky or vice versa :-)

Good shot though, on theme and while both shots are good, I think the colour one is better as said above, the rust and bricks ooze industry.

These indutrial places are huge!

Colour for me too. An alternative could have been a closer shot of the yellow and blue structure in the bottom right but judging by the athletics it took to get this I don't think youll try and re-visit!

Arent the skies rubbish today though!

I appreciate the effort you took to get the shot. I had to stand on the boot of my car to get me high enough to take a shot over the barbed wire and fencing for my Industry shot. It didnt look at all dodgy ;)

Well, you'rrrrrreeee back!!

Very industrial and the effort you took paid off. Colour for me. Did you use a grad filter? Pity the lower sections of the building are cropped.

Cheers.

Hi Lynne,

I saw your Secure on flickr and liked it.
I didn't like all of it though. The top of the frame lets it down for me.
I would have preferred more paper work to fill the frame.
However, the idea and padlock are great, it hits the theme bang on.

Industrial, um, I'm torn on this one between the colour and mono.
I usually prefer colour for the things this has, the rust, bricks etc., but the sky is a little dull.

The mono has chrome a feel to it which says industrial to me, don't know why!
So I'm going to say mono for me.

As for enthusiasm, get a grip girl.
You're an old hat at this 52 malarky.
This should be water off a duck's back by now.
You got through the 2011 Paradox week, what on earth could be worse?
Now snap out of it :)

An Audi TT with 4 wheel drive apparently does the job! I made it out today but I had similar issues to you, a huge big power station that you can't get a clear shot of! Mine are RUBBISH compared to yours!

I prefer the colour shot. As for your verticals it looks worse as the towers on the left taper away so you could never get them perfect. I think you've done well!

It was very careless of you to loose your mojo in the first place but i'm glad you found it again! No 1 for me i like the colour and the collection of verticals. It is very frustrating to not get the shot you want because of some obstruction in the way but you have done a great job under the circumstances and certainly have that 'industrial' feel to it. Nice work missy

Hi Lynne
Industry - well done on taking aphoto at all with the difficulties you descibe. You have worked hard to get the image and I think worth it. Nice to see a great big scale of industry and just enough detail in the lower half with the windows to get an idea of the scale. If you could have got the floor and a human in as well that would have been perfect - but so difficult if you do not have proper access. I like the colour version far more as i think that it makes the scene more real.

Well I'm splitting from the herd and going for the black and white I think. I didn't really notice the verticals on first look so they can't be that bad!

Hey Lynne - quick catch up :)

Secure - That's a cracking shot, I can't fault it, nicely thought, staged and taken

Industry - Oooooo like that too, the colour is my fav of the 2, and you say taken through a fence - Excellent

Your on a roll now... look forward to your next shot

Cheers Donnie ...color one is my fav as well...need to practive my B&W conversions !

Thanks Oakster .....took several shots of different parts of the building but there was always something that didn't quite sit right when trying to get just a smaller part in .
The sky was actually quite blue but wanted a more processed feel without going to OTT so took the sky back to grey , hopefully to add to the industrial feel ? lol...can just imagine you standing on the boot...might try that myself next time

Well, you'rrrrrreeee back!!

Cheers bud ...had my fav new blue grad on but decided against the blue sky...looked a bit to ..out of keeping with Industry...if that makes sense ? The bottom o the buildings were hard...there's a small fence along the base line (can just see it towards to the Lhs )....due to the angle I was shooting from it made everything appear even more wonky so lost most of it

Cheers matey....
I've gone all green & don't get paper bills from many places these days so was scratching for bill's but can see what you mean :)
I deliberately lost all the sky color....I'd used my blue grad filter but it seemed to work against the Industrial feel so using photomatix I somehow managed to lose the blue whilst keeping the rest of the color...not figured out quite how I did it though !

Paradox was a doddle compared with the theme's so far this year....pencils are looking ever more atractive
