Blondie606's Photo52 2011-Wk 52 Glass & Nature,Challenge Complete

Hiya Lynne,

Like the idea for mix ... although not sure about the border on this one, and agree the first bowl looks smaller than the other two.

Well done though on doing something different for the theme.

Cheers

Dawn :)

lynne.. love the TIME piece... reminds me of that song from War of the worlds..... you know the one...anyway..great colours..subtle transistion...not jerky in only a few steps...

mix??.. scratches head because its fitting... but not for me... i'm a three weetabix kind of guy....sorry... :x

;)

Liking the tritych :) well on theme and different.

Liking that its not over exposed.. focus looks great too! congrats

Oh an incase I haven't posted on the others recently, the passing of time is very well executed... Congrats on that too!

Cheers Vince.....thanks for popping in

Hi Lynne

Sorry for not popping by for a while. Life has just been hectic!

I LOVE your panning shot of the motorbike... faultless!

As for time... I like it a lot... although I think a plain green main border with white or silver text would work better.

As for mix... it's ok... I'm not sure the three pics even need a border at all... sorta feel its just not needed...I think the first beige rectangle would be fine!

At least your up to where you should be... I'm going to have to put the effort in over the weekend. My time shot is held up waiting for a piece of kit!

Mark

Hi Mark , thaks for the comments ,I've been practising panning all year & think I'm finally getting there !

Always knew the border for mix would be a marmite one...I kinda liked the placemat effect but hey ho

Thanks Dawn...was really un-inspired for this shot & lost patience trying to get all the bowls the same :bonk:

Hi Kev...me thinks I might get Time framed , thanks for poping in  I love weetabix too but pile on the sugar so no go for me !

It's all been said on your mix shot Lynne, small bowl, bit more colour.
Keep going though, well give each other a boost next weekend.

Hi Neil

thanks for popping by & what a great weekend :D

Ok , time for a little catch up for me .

FUN ......I was away for this one but ma n pa text me the theme thankfully . I was having huge amounts of fun but couldn't tog myself

Nothing really fitted the theme so plumped for this one......a pool party at the resort & the only night I indulged in a couple of cocktails  So , a teeny weeny bit squiffy , no idea about settings & hand held with only the pool lighting...can't remember if I triggered the on camera flash

A group of slightly tipsy party people in the pool ....

Fun 1 copy by llj666, on Flickr

Bit of a cop out I guess...but then I was on holiday :D Actually quite pleased at how it turned out ( that it turned out at all really !) Little bit of motion blur in the people ,caught the ball in flight again with motion blur & for a 1st attempt at a night time shot .

and moving quickly on to Volume.....saw the theme before I headed off to the 52's meet . Was feeling decidedly poorly on the saturday & apart from stereo buttons nothing really sprang to mind .

Met up with the guy's n gals at Ladybower (eventually) & had a thought...a very tenuous thought but at least I had an idea finally :) Went back to the res on my way home sunday & got the following shot...my thought being " volume " of water in the res shown by the amount of soil on show around the edge of the water..........not sure I'm making much sense here

DSC_9505 by llj666, on Flickr

I'm sure that most won't see the connection to the theme but I'm quite pleased with the shot overall...bit of detail in the sky & the different levels that the water has been at are clearly visible on the left in detail .Not so sure about the focus...was trying manual focus for the 1st time that weekend ...think I need more practice

I will make an effort this weekend & catch up with everyone else's thread

The motion in the ball is super. Blokes, water, ball and beer - the very definition of fun.

Volume....well composed and fits the theme.

Though, I really wish that sky was there on the Saturday....:'(

Cheers.

Lynne,
FUN is a great fun snap shot of what was obviously a great evening :-)

VOLUME is an excellent execution of quite a hard thing to shot well
Your sky and ground are both well exposed, with no blown patches in the sky, or dull dark patches in the foreground.
This is a great spring board to just fine tune a bit. IMHO the foreground needs a very slight selective boost to the exposure, but holding back on the blacks, to add a little contrast to the time marks in the banks. A simple curves adjustment on the foreground should do it.

Now I’ve just had a nose at your EXIF data, and you may wish to consider a few points for future shoots. A landscape generally does not need a very fast shutter speed. Your ISO is very very high at 1600 ISO, and your shutter speed is fast at 1/500 of a second. If you half your iso to 800ISO you need to double the amount of light needed to maintain the same exposure, so you could have used a 1/250th of a second shutter speed. At 18mm focal length this would not have produced any camera shake. In fact an ISO of 100 would give you a shutter speed of 1/30th of a second, still fairly good for 18mm focal length. This would give you a much cleaner image without the noise artefacts that come with high ISOs.

My only minor area for future improvement would be the inclusion of some foreground interest, but you did very well with this shot.

Kind rgds

Lynne... i like the fact you got sky for Volume at LB ... i think i struggled with a grey ..substance... so

Lynne I like it! Well done. Bang on the theme and I like the motion blur in the people and the ball.

Thanks Michael

I really like that, I also took my FUN shot on holiday.

The exposure looks spot on and it captures the theme perfectly.

Cheers Joe , for a 1st night shot I'm pleased with it...settings more luck than knowledge

Hiya lynne, very nice. Like the detail you have captured through out, a little oof on the foreground, I think it looks better viewed large on flickr. I like the use of this with the volume theme.

Thanks Michael,I'm glad someone else saw the connection:) I prefer the larger version as well , the foreground is slightly oof...1st ime shot in manual so need to keep practising

Thanks Andy  I may have got the sky on sunday but failed with the super still water that you guy's got on the saturday....going back possibly tomorrow to try again !

Wow , thanks for detailed crit Adie...much appreciated  If I ever get to grips with PSE I'll have a go at the adjustments you mention .This was probably my 1st real landscape type shot...not intentional just saw the connection with Volume,so I'm quite pleased with it .

As for the ISO.....we'd been to the Chestnut Centre & I'd ramped the ISO up for shooting in really gloomy conditions there.... & like a nit wit forgot to to alter it back....didn't realise till I got home & looked at some shots & thought...bloody hell the're noisey :bang: I now have notes on all my lens's saying....check the flamming ISO before attaching ............

Well done Lynne for catching up.

Fun; they sure are having. Not an easy shot to take slightly shame about the reflection.

Volume; when I saw the photo I thought oh 'volume of water'. Done well and as said a bit more foreground would even be better.

Cheers Stan :thumbs:Not sure what more foreground interest really means ? That may sound dim but there wasn't anything else there .Do you mean something like a person , a boat or a large rock ? Going back to have another try soon so any ideas much appreciated

Lynne... i like the fact you got sky for Volume at LB ... i think i struggled with a grey ..substance... so

Cheers Kev....as mentioned to Andy...I got the sky but you guy's got beautifully still water & great reflections :) I'm hoping for both tomorrow ....

I like volume. Very well composed, and I get the feeling that there's loads to look at which I like. The sky is great

A touch noisy though (on my monitior). Great input from Adie.

Cheers Joe , getting more pleased with this shot each time I look at it....& yes Adies input was great  See my reply to him re the noise.... major senior moment on my behalf :bonk:

I like the fun shot Lynne, it has loads of ingredients for fun!

Volume; you would never know that this was taken on the same gloomy Sunday.
You got lucky with the weather here as it's added loads of colour to those trees. Mine from the Saturday were very flat, that flat that I had to go HDR, which I'm not a fan of (coming around to it though!).

I think it says volume, as in volume of water.

lynne...lets get this straight... young neil and andy got the still waters... i haven't dared look at mine after andy posted his.... i stitched a pano together and thought, sky cloudy and grey , water movement ... :bang:

maybe i'll try and process my bridge shot. i like yours for the sky and the colours..

Hi Lynne

Again appologies for not commenting week on week. Im really struggling to find the time and finding the forum really dificult to follow and keep up with everyones threads! Especially when im a few weeks behind in my comments!

Your fun shot is a great snap... captures the theme well... I just wonder if a tighter crop would be better loosing all the stuff to the left and the bottom?

Volume... this is a good idea for the theme... it defo needs the lines in the mud you have captured...they sorta give the image a sense of a volume scale... however being critical... the shot needs more foreground interest and i'd have used these lines to do it. You maybe dont have a wider angle lens but I think this would have helped... get a bit lower so they make more impact on the shot... and maybe go for a contrasty B and W conversion. Im just thinking out loud if i'd been there I guess

Cheers Neil....yeah , sunday afternoon was a vast improvement sky wise but I missed the calm water you guys got on saturday...still , it's not too far from home so def going back for another try :)

Hi ya Mark...no worries on the comments...I'm struggling to keep especially now I'm doing this Prime thing as well :bonk: This was taken with the 18-55 , not got a wide angle lens as such . Still not sure about this foreground interest....what you see is pretty much what is there but def willing to try again & from a lower position. May try a B&W conversion just to see..thanks for the idea

^Sorta try to use the lines to lead up and through the shot a bit more... I know what I mean but its hard to explain!

I have to say, on this occasion I feel the inclusion of foreground interest, rock or bush, for example, would have ruined the photograph. I does have foreground interest, for me, the great lines on the shore....

Cheers.

A while since I caught up here :(
Apologies.

The motion blur shot of the bike is the stand-out one for me over your last few....can't believe it was nt your first shot.....we all know your love of bikes...!

I also liked the time photograph....a great idea...

Well done on getting a shot for FUN even though you were on holiday...

On all your other photographs I'd just be repeating what others have said.....though I don't understand why the first bowl in mix is smaller? I mean - was nt it the same bowl in each photograph? taken from the same POV?

Hiya Lynne,

Great shot for FUN ... indeed it looks like they were having a great time. I too like the motion blur of the people and the ball.

As for you saying you are c@rp at landscape shots when we met up at Ladybower Res .... you have proved yourself wrong with this one because the photo is so right! It fits the theme, great lead in line, control of lighting and colours  When I drove past on the Sunday and saw the gorgeous sky I was almost tempted to stop .... but had to get home.

Well done on both counts.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Think I get the idea...if the weather ever clears I'm gonna give it another go !

Lynne, some beautiful shots and regarding Volume I agree with Adie.

Love your colours in that shot; and sky...so classic

Thanks Tina

Cheers Jeff...this was the 1st bike shot I was really happy with...mainly cos of the wheelie
I have no idea about the bowl size either...the shots were handheld so guess that was the problem...kept moviing !

Cheers Dawn...so glad I went back on the way home & quite pleased with the shot

& so on to Explode.....my 1st thought was'nt practicable ( don't know anyone who makes bombs :D ) then I though about ballons & duly bought some .Still in their packaging !

Fancied having a go at some water droplets ...the connection being collisions = explosions ?

Spent 2 hours last night getting really frustrated & gave up . Read through a tutorial on here & gave it another go this morning with far better results . & yes , it's addictive  Hundreds of shots gave me these 2 which I'm quite chuffed with for my 1st attempt ....

Rapid 2c by llj666, on Flickr

Still need to practice ( lots & lots) with manual focus

Be back laters to catch up with everyones threads....ttfn

Lynne... I love the right hand image... The floating droplets is awesome...beautiful. But is this rapid..or explode..

Well done on your first waterdrop attempts Lynne
Much better than a lot of people's first tries and the one n the right has come out really well - crisp, clear, well focused I like it.

Also really like your fun shot. Well lit and love the bit of motion blur.

Lynne... I love the right hand image... The floating droplets is awesome...beautiful. But is this rapid..or explode..

Ummm, picture name suggests Rapid!!

Love the red colour in these Lynne.
I had another go at water drops myself over the weekend, wont be posting any for my 52 though, need to get my creative juices going - leave the roundabout alone Kev - and get myself out of the box!

Don't know why, but the blurred background is making me think of Christmas

Lynne... I love the right hand image... The floating droplets is awesome...beautiful. But is this rapid..or explode..

Thanks Kev.....water drops are waaaayyyy to addictive ! The idea was def water exploding on water...the left hadnshot made me think of an underwater explosion

Many thanks Sarah.....these shots were far harder to nail than I thought they'd be...doesn't help when your eye's don't focus properely on a sunday morning when trying to use amnual focus  ps....where's those apple shots gone ?

Darn it..you really have got eagle eye's...the background was christmas wrap :) I didn't name the picture so not sure how you got Rapid....( I've done a ridiculous marmite over-processed shot for Rapid )

But lynne s thread title said explode added... Doh!!..!!!

...and hey..whatever you lady palm and the bishop get up to..that's your business.. :D

Something else on my list of things to do...

Right one for me. Great timing, bokeh and it has a celestial feel to it; like a planet being sucked into a black hole.

Well done.
