Love the bridal shots... bang on theme... great work...

not so keen on the flowers... but good shots just personal taste.

Sorry i've not been about for a while... defo woefully behind with my own 52 again!

One thing... what's with the borders... both shots would look better on their own in my opinion!
 
Hi all.....

hope I've done the right thing by starting another thread for weeks 27 -52...& in the words of Europe " it's the final countdown " :D

Spent an hour with the Police puppies this morning...it'd be easier juggling jellied eel's than trying to take photo's of 10-12 hyper active 7-12week old GS puppies:eek:

Had been thinking about the theme on the way there & all that kept popping in to my head was flowers or jewellery.....saw a sign for a Village fete & thought....why not..lets see whats on offer...images of scrumptious cakes sprang to mind:lol:

As the theme is Elaborate I've gone a little over board ( for a change !)....

the 1st image is actually a bridal bouquet but not flowers.....& I thought it looked pretty elaborate....

the lefthand one is the original , the righthand one was the result of a little play in PS( & I know it's a little soft )... the background was out of my control as it was on a stall & though I'm fairly brave I really didn't think I should ask the stall holder to move it ,hence the black bits at the top :lol:


Then I saw the most delightful floral stand....I knew I'd get some flowers in here somehow ...

Again due to this being a stall, trying to isolate the ones I liked was never gonna happen ( hence the white van background ) & there were 2 tiers of arrangements all close togther .The flowers are all made out of dyed ladies tights ( I kid you not ).....& looked pretty Elaborate to me

So over to you guy's for the usual ....are you going to be nice to me this week :lol:
 
Sounds like you've had an interesting week Lynne - police pups, dyed tights . . . whatever next !!!

It's version #1 that does it for me though. Very unusual wedding bouquets, definitely elaborate and I like the way that you've zoomed in on the detail.

While I love the colours in version 2, I think that they're let down a bit by the backgrounds. It's always a shame at fetes like this. Some fantastic things to shoot, but nigh on impossible to get the composition that you'd want. Having said that, I think you've done a stunning job on the right-hand image. Not a hint of distracting backgound in sight, and I think this would make a lovely stand-alone shot rather then being part of a triptych.

1st off .....a huge THANKS to Sarah for merging my thread...all in one place now:thumbs:

Had a really fun day at the Emergency Service's Open Day in Sheffield , great to meet up with Dawn & Roo :thumbs: Sun shone , lots of stuff going on & far to many shots to sort tonight . I'd kinda hoped that I'd be able to get my shot for this weeks theme of Celebrate & think I managed it !.
Spent most of my time at the Force's Dog Competition & finally settled on this as my shot for this week...possibly a bit of a cop out (non pun intended:lol: ) as got yet another busy week & really need to catch up on sorting around 1500 shots of bikes & puppies & todays stuff before I head off to Longleat next week :)

Hiya Lynne,

We had such a fantastic time today, Roo didn't stop talking about it all the way home. We didn't leave Sheffield till going on 8pm ... also stopped along the way to get some photos on the way home, and then part of the M60 was closed so had to do a detour. Only arrived home 20 minutes ago, poor Roo is shattered and is now tucked up in bed.

It was great to meet you and finally put a face to Username. Thanks too for the lift back to the car :)

I think you have done well to add these great shots for this week's 'celebration' I'm sure this chap will be celebrating his victory.

There are so many photos that I have to sort through too ... don't know yet how many I took, but I reckon well over 800 :D

Cheers Dawn...after mentioning the event I started to worry that it'd be a let down ....so glad it was fun & great weather to boot :) Roo is a lovely little chap,very polite & chatty...I'm fairly tired so know exactly how he feels !

Look forward to seeing the rest of the event through your shots :lol: ....I missed a lot but I had said to Harry that I'd get him plenty of shots...about a thousand in total :eek:

Glad you got into sheffield , personnaly I detest the place ( cities in general )but think thats more to do with the fact I just don't understand architecture photography :'(

Thanks, but far from a let down ... it was just what Roo and I needed after being cooped up for a week and the sunshine and fresh air did us both the world of good. Roo is in his element and wants to become a knight after watching the Medieval show and holding the swords and weapons :lol: (OMG the items they wore and held were soooo heavy, I can't believe how they managed to fight like they did with all that weight on them)

I have just checked the cards and I have taken 1158 photos today :nuts: So that will take some working through, but I will hopefully post some soon.

Finding Sheffield was no probs, even got parking right next to where I wanted to be ... and it was free, so that was a bonus. Appreciate what you say about architecture .... for me I find it fascinating ... especially when I can create something abstract from same. We all have our different interests that is what makes photography so interesting ;)

Indeed, we definitely need to start working on the TP52/365 meet ... I can't wait to meet the rest of the crazy bunch :D

thats because its either propaganda and the manipulation of history OR we're just a weedy bunch now that can bearly carry a camera with a long lens on it without the aid of a tripod because shake creeps into the shot.. :lol:

my money is on the later... :naughty:
 
Even though I'm a very active guy, hobby and family wise, you really put me to shame with your photography outings.

I tend to pack my camera gear, get in the car and drive some void of people...

Anyway, you've cracked the theme.

Both photographs could make individual entries.

Pity no eye contact with the Police officer in the RH but the other guy's facial expression more than makes up for it. Nice one to catch the small German Shepherd on the right...:D

I won't comments on the Police officer's proximity the the LH frame (and the foot in the RH photograph), even though I did, as I suspect the pace was fast and furious.

Cracking DOF on both the add to the story for the photographs.

Frame gets a thumbs up from me as well...:thumbs:

Cheers Andy.....missed the shot with both guy's looking at me :bonk: The RH shot I was just looking at the dog...it was pure fluke that the officer was in it as well which is why it's quite close .I didn't crop the foot just couldn't position the photo properly in picnik !

Looks like you had a fab day... Your shots are good... but I think you would maybe have benefited from a longer lens.

Both shots tell a great story... but individually as photographs they are not wowzers... but it doesn't always happen at these events as I know as well as any. Often you just cant get great angles, the light is not right etc etc.

And again for me... the border is OTT! I find the white stripe a distraction and think it would be better with a thicker central line... although I think the second pic on its own would be better!

Hi again Lynn, just getting further along with feedback:

Celebrate: This is a good idea although the shots maybe arent your best but I'm sure that the action one of the dog wasnt easy to get, sorry, (and here's me not even having postedfor the last few themes yet!!!)

Rescue: I was really interested to read this post and my initila reaction.... fair play to you for grabbing the bull by the horns and getting on with it.
(Makes me feel envious though as I am probably similar in the fact that I am fairly shy and feel awkward being seen out in public with a camera. I have however been taking a few of some work that we have completed in various cities in Ireland which has helped. Maybe the right theme will come up that will allow me to use some of them.)
Anyway, grat to hear your story about the Fire station and some good pics as a reward for your hard work and effort.

Broken: Probably your best shot of the 52, the idea and the execution. The pp is class as well.

The broken pic would have been your second best if the POTY pic was in the 52 as it is really brill. Congratulations on the picture and on coming second. Your are a real inspiration.

Looking forward to more shots.:thumbs:

cups of tea with fireman... you go girl!! Good for you that your camera enabling you to be brave, love that so much, and relate also!

good shot for sensual, tricky one that, I might play a joker :0) agree angle praps not the most flattering maybe, but nonetheless, a good shot and good use of selective colour

and a VERY well done on your POTY result, richly deserved, well done you x

Cheers Mark , yeah ,wish I'd had my sigma with me but twas away being fixed so had to make do with 70-300 tamron...ok for closer shots but it struggles with distance stuff . Never would have believed that bright sunshine would be a pain for shooting stuff but you live n learn ! Borders will always be marmite:lol:

Plenty of ideas but no real ummph this week , no time to do the one I really wanted so if & when I get round to it I may add it in later in the 52 .

Lynne, i just realised i never actually critiqued your last two. sorry.

I think the only thing for me that is distracting in Celebrate, is the bold orange castle against the middle dividing frame. This draws my..as well as the dancing policeman on the LHS ... was he a part time morris man? no wood in hand though..

And Smell.. mmm others like the tight crop, but the colours meld for me, i can because i can identify with the subject. but maybe its the angle, almost birds eye... not no use of a fish eye lens on this one :thumbs: 10-10 for theme .. but composition lacked so 6-10 ... :( ..sorry




now i am hungry...and the chip shop doesn't open for like 45 mins ...

Great idea, I could smell the food, but I think it needs a few chips at the top of the frame to improve the composition a bit, as the colours are blending, and the top is just a little too ...... orange.... But you have made me want fish and chips now!!! :D:D

I bet this one is asking for a re-shoot card, just so you can enjoy another portion of fish and chips... :D

Well done for seeing a shot hidden in your tea... i would have just dived in and not even given it a second thought...

The dancing man...I'll pass your commments on to the officer involved...apparently the dog is really very friendly....unless he hears someone's been taking the mick :D

Cheers Adie.... I still don't understand composition...it's a plate of fish n chips ! I only get a childs portion so didn't have much to " arrange " , wanted to put them in newspaper for a proper f&c effect but don't have any in the house (far to depressing to read ) .The batter on the scallop ( northern speak for fish n potato in batter ) does look a bit orange but having taken various shots with differing WB this was the best . I went for a close up to try n get the textures , tried a couple from further away getting the whole portion in but just didn't look right ?
Maybe have to treat myself again soon & try for a reshoot .....
The one thing I have found with this challenge is that I look at everything & think.....where's me camera ....

sometimes its about blurring the background.. moving your position..anticapating the action... i used to shoot greyhounds..and the place by the winning post was tight and sometimes crowded... so a longer lens would help see over peoples heads...

as for composition of SMELL... maybe think bigger.. and further away.. not 'just' a plate of chips... Adie is right..the colours are same-y ... so perhaps add mushy peas to the mix... onto the plate and shoot the plate as well.. take the shot like it was a meal laid out at the table... you could even have put some food on a fork and focused on that... seperating the colours..the background would have framed the ..delicious food.. you realise i am writing this after devouring a plate of haddock and chips..so i can speak from immediate experience... :love: .. mmmm ....now Lynne get out there..and for this week's theme... find something WEIRD ...

and NO... i'm not modelling for you ... you can do it.. :thumbs: we (the TP52) believe in you
 
Weird.....what the flip sort of theme is this :eek: Googled to no avail for ideas so really had given up on this one....didn't even have a joker to play :'(

Went to Olivers Mount,Scarborough on Sunday for the Cock 'O The North road race & after a long uphill climb I was catching my breath & turned seaward to take in the view....simply stunning I might add:) I saw this & thought what an odd thing to build in the middle of a town....so guess it fits the theme ?

Not my best ever shot by a long stretch , only had the Tamron 700-300 (very soft at full zoom ) but took the shot at ( according to exif ) 230mm, no filters for this lens either .Very hazy ,shooting with the sun almost overhead & quite unsteady hands....normally use a monopod but went on the bike so no room for it .Enough of the excuses :lol:

I've seen a fair few of these..in fields & countryside but never in a town by the sea....

Well done you for getting this shot. Indeed it does look weird ... or out of place.

As you say it looks a tad soft/hazy, but guess that can happen when at the seaside.

Hope you had a great weekend and got lots of photos.

I have no clue what I am going to do for weird, but guess I still have some time to think about it.

Weird, it sure is! I must ask Lynne, where is Oliver's Mount in Scarborough? Been a fair few times but not come across that part. As for the pic you have done well considering the haze and limitations of your lens. :thumbs:
 
lynne..i like your shot for the thre different elements you've captured... the in focus housing in the foreground... with that windmill??? .. then the band of trees, dark and green, foreboding... then the haze over the coastline bringing us out of the darkness into the light... love it...

now what weirdo built a windmill amongst all those houses..????
