Blondie606's Photo52 2011-Wk 52 Glass & Nature,Challenge Complete

Brilliant shot Lynne. I like this a lot. The pose and expression you've caught is excellent. I like the selective colour. Great use of DOf

A few thoughts on improving. Up the nostril is perhap not the most flattering angle. The processing on the strawberry makes it look a little plasticky. I'd be tempted to clone out the little stray bits of mascara.

But, overall a great image which works for me.

Just spotted your "rescue" pic - excellent. And I really like the write up - you are braver than me.

Nice shot Lynne.

I'd rather there was a little bit more space in the frame below and to the right of the strawberry. I also think the 'Sensual' feel could be enhanced a little if your model was placing the strawberry on her tongue.

Up the nostril, as Patrick says, isn't that flattering, but at least her nostril is clean :)
I'm glad Patrick noted this as one of my ideas involves food and I may have over looked the nostril thing. Hopefully no one will see this idea though if the OH is lets me post my shot of her!

Hi Lynne

As others have already said about the pose... it's akward... but It's a great capture none the less! I'd have made more use of the tounge too!

Well done though... I cant be too critical as at the moment I only have a vague idea of what I might shoot!

lynne...thats an awwesome...delicious looking strawberry...i love the detail you've captured in it...will the next one include strawberries too..?

Cheers Kev.....may have to go buy some more strawberries:naughty:

Thanks Patrick .Just checked the RAW file & thats how the strawberry was,the only pp I did was crop ,duplicate layer, delete color, bring through the strawb color , guassian blur , a little tweak on the color & sharpen .The light just caught it like that, maybe it stands out more because it's B&W? I missed the mascara as short on time:bonk:

Hi Neil...I googled for sensual images of strawb's as wasn't too sure my idea was more erotic than sensual ! Not sure about using more of the tongue though....fuller reply in next post :)

Well done Lynne! You really ARE doing so well. Only points I would make have been made and I agree that the sc seems to work against my prejudice ;)

Cheers Tina...glad you don't mind the SC in this shot

HIya Lynne, well done with this one. I like the selective colouring you have done on the strawberry. The pose has been mentioned. Look forward to seeing idea number 2.

Hi Mark & thanks for commenting , fuller relpy in next post :)

Okey dokey....crit taken on board , listened to , mulled over & about sums it up :D

Feeling a bit protective on this one , Derryn did a great job & as said before I'm no portrait type tog . I had the thought about this shot & googled sensual images of strawb's to make sure it wasn't OTT . I saw the image below & thought, yeah , thats what I have in mind but wanted to include the closed eye's to add to the feeling of the heaven that is eating stawberries:)

If I had software that enabled me to give model type skin I'd have left it all color.

imagesCA568DZG.jpg

this image is also...in others words...up her nostrils...slightly . I wanted to add more of the face for reasons already stated .

I've just done a quick (very very quick) re-edit with a tighter crop to more closely emulate the above image :

Sensual part 2 by llj666, on Flickr

It doesn't work so well for me as it's a very big crop so lacking in quality but I hope you can all see what I was aiming for ?

Sorry if I'm coming across as a bit mardy on this one but as everyone else who's seen the photo has said it was good & Derryn also liked it I'm feeling a bit miffed:'(

I can see the crop may have been a bit tight at the bottom but that would have bought in some more background that I wanted to avoid .

Cheers,Lynne

It is a great idea and the selective colour is a nice touch.

Concerns: SC, for me, has to be spot on and parts of your edges look a bit rushed...the skin looks a bit flat...I wouldn't have noticed the nostrils/mascara is they had't been pointed out.

I'd like to see some sensual eye contact, maybe??

Cheers and keep up the great work.

Cheers Stan...glad someone likes it :)

I think everyone said they liked it Lynne, it's just that they gave some pointers that they felt may take the shot further.

I can see what you were aiming for and the eyes certainly help the shot and add to the 'feeling'.
I think you're right about the tongue too, it probably would make it more erotic than sensual (is erotic in the bag for a future week?).

The main thing is though, if you like the shot don't worry about what we think/ say.
If it works for you, it works.

Hi hope you don't mind me commenting as I'm just a newbie but unlike most I really quite like selective colouring and on this I find it quite appropriate the strawberry does look a little superimposed and maybe a little over saturated and I was wondering if maybe you didn't feather the edges of the selection before desaturating the rest and that's why the edges look a little harsh but like I said I'm no expert so please forgive me if I'm wrong. I really like the idea though might see if the wife might be up for twist on this maybe without the grub she can be little shy though

excellent use of selective colouring why does this technique work so well with red objects? not sure if I have seen any shots that don't use a red subject

i wonder if this is why Sixth Sense used red as the hint colour .. about you know...Bruce Willis.. being..you know... [not trying to spoil film ending]

Hiya Lynne,

Sorry it has taken me a while to get to your photo ... it has been a bit of a crazy week.

I love the idea for your photo this week and I think you have done very well indeed. The selective colouring works a treat here.

I prefer your original photo to the cropped version .... mainly because it is not just the Sensual taste of the strawberry but all the expression on Derryn's face which emphasise 'sensual' even more, i.e., including the nose ... the scent of the strawberry as one is about to eat it, closing the eyes imagining the sweet taste.

Great job too on the DOF and well done to Derryn for being your model

I think you have done well

Cheers

Dawn :)

Cheers Neil...think I was being a touch sensitive over this shot , blame on PMS

PS...BRILLIANT entry for the POTY....superb & you should do really well

Aww... thanks Dawn..the crop didn't work for me either but thoguht I'd put it up so people could see where I was coming from with my shot ,thanks

Thanks Andy.....my PP leaves a lot to be desired, got a training session owed so hopefully we'll cover this subject in that & I'll be doing lots more SC lots lots better ! Not sure how to alter the skin...guess thats PP as well ??

That pesky PMS.
As for the POTY, thanks.
To my surprise, I'm currently coming joint 2nd!

Neil

that is a truly fab shot for POTY ,soon as I saw it I figured you'd be vying for the lead ...great work mister

Okey dokey folks....week 27 is here ( & pms now gone ) it appears we have to start another thread so Hopefully I'll see you in part 2

Hi all.....

hope I've done the right thing by starting another thread for weeks 27 -52...& in the words of Europe " it's the final countdown " :D

Spent an hour with the Police puppies this morning...it'd be easier juggling jellied eel's than trying to take photo's of 10-12 hyper active 7-12week old GS puppies:eek:

Had been thinking about the theme on the way there & all that kept popping in to my head was flowers or jewellery.....saw a sign for a Village fete & thought....why not..lets see whats on offer...images of scrumptious cakes sprang to mind:lol:

As the theme is Elaborate I've gone a little over board ( for a change !)....

the 1st image is actually a bridal bouquet but not flowers.....& I thought it looked pretty elaborate....

Elaborate 1 by llj666, on Flickr

the lefthand one is the original , the righthand one was the result of a little play in PS( & I know it's a little soft )... the background was out of my control as it was on a stall & though I'm fairly brave I really didn't think I should ask the stall holder to move it ,hence the black bits at the top

Then I saw the most delightful floral stand....I knew I'd get some flowers in here somehow ...

Elaborate 2 by llj666, on Flickr

Again due to this being a stall, trying to isolate the ones I liked was never gonna happen ( hence the white van background ) & there were 2 tiers of arrangements all close togther .The flowers are all made out of dyed ladies tights ( I kid you not ).....& looked pretty Elaborate to me

So over to you guy's for the usual ....are you going to be nice to me this week

I may have got it wrong ( usual do ! ) but Sarah mentioned something about 6mth limit for updating thread titles ( we've now been going about that length of time ) & that most start a new thread for wk 27 onwards ?

don't follow me...I'm usually lost :D

I found this out the other day, our first posts have now reached 6 months, so the edit post button has gone and you can't edit your title that way, but you can change the title when you are in the main part where all threads are, just click or double click to the right of the title and it allows you to edit it.

Hi Lynne, liking the first 2 photos, they work together quite well, I do find the right hand image a little blue, but I still like it. And the flowers are great, considering the limitations I think you have done just fine, the 3rd one in the sequence is my favourite. Great colours.

Hiya

Okay ... now I am really confused (which doesn't take much doing )

So are we supposed to start a new thread ... or can we continue. Sorry Michael, but your explanation doesn't make much sense to me tonight ... it has been a long day :D

Anywayz ... Lynne I will catch up with your new thread ... off to find it now :exit:

Perhaps we need some clarification of same in the Main Photo52 thread ... I think I might post something there now to see what the Mods say about this dilemma.

BTW Lynne, well done on reaching this far, you have done a sterling job and I can definitely see the advancement in your photography over the past 6 months. Keep up the brilliant work and good luck with the 2nd part.

We all  you

Cheers

Dawn :)

I even read it a few times to see if it sounded right! Long day for me too.

When in this part of the forum, double click in the empty part of the line where your thread is, then you can change the title.

OMG Michael (with the voice of Spongebob Squarepants ringing in my ears) you have a plan! That is ace and I even checked it out.

You have to hold my hand on some of these Forum technicalities ... this is the one and only Forum I have ever been on and I learn something new each day :D

Thank you ... that make things crystal clear :D

Cheers

Dawn :)

Spongbob! Now that's given me another idea, he is quite elaborate himself! Now, where is that cushion

Okay now Michael take a few deep breaths, relax .... before you reach for that cushion

Believe me I am Spongebob'd out after this weekend ... little'n has not been well at all and all he has wanted to watch is his SB movies ...and as such I have SB, Patrick Starfish and Squidward's Tenticles ringing in my head :bang: .... time for a glass of wine I think to help me unwind!

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hiya Lynne,

I have found you again ... Part 2 :D

Now I have to say I love the first image of the first shot (if that makes sense) ... it has quite a 'romantic' feel to it. I'm not too sure about the processing of the second pic though ... something looks quite 'unnatural' and a bit too 'anti-bridal' if you know what I mean

The flower shots are good ... considering what you had to work with, background wise, but putting that aside and looking at the actual subjects ... I am amazed at how they have manufactured those from tights/stockings, definitely elaborate works of art!

Have to say these are not your best tog works ... but I think you have captured the subject at the spur of the moment well.

Good luck with the 2nd part of the Photo52 and let's hope there are some challenging themes appear for you to really put your photography skills to test (and learn along the way).

Cheers

Dawn :)

Thanks Dawn....I loved the original bouquet as nice n subtle & very traditional colors , however I also like the lilac/mint colors as they work well together but as you say , they are less "normal" for a bouquet !

The flowers really were stunning , again I wish I'd had the opportunity to separate them & get better backgrounds to really show them off .I could have cropped closer but that would have lost some of the Elaborate feeling .

& you're right again...these were shots that fitted the theme but no really tog skill in taking them but I needed something quick as life is just far to hectic at the moment . I have ear marked Elaborate for a reshoot week when I can ( hopefully) dedicate a bit more time to the theme

ps...thanks for finding me in my new thread

now i feel i'm running behind...lynne these photos are gorgeous for elaborate...the sort you can just look at and admire them for what they are..objects of beauty...

They both fit the theme but I'm unsure about the about the borders, they're a bit too hard for the subject.

Of the two, #2 wins it by a far way, for me.

Really nice, rich colours and I especially like the crop on the RH flower.

You've mentioned the BGs which is a slight shame.

Overall, 2 well constructed and delicate photographs.

Cheers.

Many thanks Andy...possibly did go a little OTT with the borders & now you mention...I quite like the 3rd flower crop as well...maybe I should have just posted that one ?

Hi Lynne,

I like both the pearl photos including the pp version and very apt for the theme. Very well done on spotting the opportunity to take them too.

Thanks Stan...lilac & mint are 2 of my fave colors & I think they work well together , though as not traditinal colors I appreciate they are'nt to everyones taste

Here you are!

All been said really.
Borders are not my thing, especially real elaborate ones like these!

I think I prefer the first set.

I loved your comment though.

".....Then I saw the most delightful floral stand..."

Clearly acceptable for a lady to make such a statement, but I so hope I don't come out with phrases like this, or friends will think I've taken a turn!

Time with the police puppies sounds good.

HI, Lynne,
Trying to get a catch up with eeryone. Really like the bridal bouquets. Really pretty and elabourate.
