Hiya Lynne,

First of all, welcome back and it looks like you have had great fun :thumbs:

You are an absolute gem to this Photo52 and always look forward to your photos and the storyline you add to them ..... they make me laugh and raise my spirits, thanks.

#1 I like this one, a great find for hidden and I like the processing, only crit would be .... not sure about the colour of the border, perhaps would have just stuck with a single border the colour of the inside one.

#2 Another great shot for the theme. I like how you have got the grass in the foreground. Would have perhaps cropped a bit of the dreary sky though. The composition is great incorporating the land, bunker and sea in the background. Like the framing on this one.

#3 ooooh I like this one ..... almost like spying :lol: It has great depth and I like how you have got the sea in the background again.

#4 Interesting ... I wonder what is inside :eek: Pity you didn't have the socket set with you to find out :lol:

#5 Great shot .... trying to see what is hidden :thinking: is it because the face is hidden behind the helmet?

Well done, a very entertaining post for this week, with some great shots.

Number 1, That's a great find, I like the composition and the vignette. Looks a little dull on my screen, but that could well be my laptop.

Number 3, For me this is the pick of the bunch. I like the fact that you photographed it through the gaps. a great perspective.
Number 4, Looks very interesting indeed. I wonder what's under there :suspect: maybe it would house a few 52'ers in there for some thinking time :naughty:

Thanks for the comments Dawn..... hope your feeling a bit better , I do try to make people smile 'cos lifes a pain at times ! Must admit there are sooo many color options in piknic that I do get a tad carried away sometimes !

Shot 5.... not the hidden face :D I'm quite pleased that those who've commented haven't spotted what I almost didn't see myself....wonder who'll be 1st :thinking:

Hi, Lynne, Hidden 1 and 2 for me.

Hidden 1 frame within a frame within a frame...nice one.

Hidden 2, for me the best, really nice contrasting colours. I'd like to see the hole with the snails in it a tad further right.

Wow , you've been a busy bee. And a great set of shots too :thumbs:

The first and last are best for me

#1 really like this and great for the theme. Lovely variety and textures and colours. The two little snail are nice and sharp. I Like the orangy lichen (is that what is it?)

#6 At first I looked at this and though "oh that's a nice sharp shot of a bike". Then spotted the "hidden" element. Great:thumbs:
 
Number 3 is the pick of the bunch for me Lynne. Excellent shot and don't knock your pp skills that shot in particular is very well done.

Many thanks Patrick...lichen is right ,they caught my eye then I spotted the snails hiding from the wind . A whole 2 days of bike photography was great fun if a little tiring :thumbs:

Right...Broken.
Had me stumped, as , apart from an indicator lens , on the bike couldn't think of anything .

Did a quick google for images & saw one I quite liked but a complete departure from my normal stuff . Thought about it, dismissed it , thought a little more & then said ...ah, what the hell , lets give it a try ! Have also avoided looking at others as someone else is bound to do the same thing only far far better :lol:

I must confess to having a helper on this one as the logistics had me beat , how to be the model , get the focus , get in position , fire the camera & actually get the thing framed right was gonna be difficult . Even using the remote would be a struggle as the shot I wanted needed to be taken with the macro lens ( tried the kit lens but couldn't get the result I wanted) & couldn't figure out how to set the timer for 10 minute delay :bonk:

Now... I'm quite prepared ( I think ) for the drubbing I'm going to recieve on this:lol:

Started as a color shot , converted to B&W then had a play in piknic to get the final effect I was after . Not 100% happy but pleased none the less

Hi Lynne, a big well done for 2nd place! It was a hard theme for me this month! But I really do like your photo. Anyway onto broken, personally I love this shot. The vignette, colouring really works with this photo. I have just looked a few times to make my mind up on the composition and I have decided I like it, at first I wasn't too sure about the space on the left hand side to begin with.

This POTY comp is a real challenge & I never for a moment thought I'd be in the top 3...normal service will be resumed for this months theme I'm sure though :lol:

I didn't think too much of the the left hand space but hoped it might add to the feel of the the shot.

Well well well, what a come back.

I love the image.
I'm not sure about the models positioning in the frame, ie should she be further to the left, but I'm no expert on portrait shots, so who am I to comment. I'd also lose the red 'BROKEN' text from top left, it's not required and spoils the shot.

What did the macro lens do that your kit lens couldn't?

I really must try to take some photos with people in & your image has inspired me.

Thanks Neil , I couldn't even see the text...had a mess about in piknic & thought I'd removed all the text as , like you say , it's not really needed...guess I didn't look hard enough :bonk:

The positioning was intentional as I wanted to give the feeling that I was turning away from something , maybe a 2nd person on the left with an outstretched hand would have been better but I didn't have anyone to hand :'( The kit lens took in too much of the surrounding area for the shot I wanted...I could have cropped I guess but I like the lens so much I wanted to use it :lol:

I'd put a linky to my my POTY entry ....if I could figure out how !

At first I wasn't sure about the composition either. Think we all are now in the way of thinking about certain rules and adhering to them. Managed to stop myself looking at it that way and thought more about the shot fitting the theme. And you have it spot on in my opinion. Focus, dof, composition and your pp all excellent. My favourite broken image so far and a hard one to beat. Very well done Lynne.

I really did think I'd get another panning for this shot , so glad I was wrong ( so far so good anyway ).Today has to be one of the high's in my togging experience , 2nd in the POTY & some womderfull comments on this shot...I'll go to bed with my cheshire cat grin firmly in place :D
 
Had to take more than one look at this as I felt uncomfortable about the composition but then realised it was the correct feeling for the image :thumbs:

Well done, good take on the theme and well executed, only to be expected from such a prize winner as you :thumbs:

I love everything about the photo, the composition, the background, the pose, the post processing, framing, everything ..... for me it is perfect an evokes such strong feelings. You have really raised the bar with this photo and indeed one of your best photos for the 52.

I love your broken shot... you've completely stollen my thunder though as I was thinking of doing a self portrait to of myself acting like a broken man! I still might but i'm not sure i'd do as good a job as this... so its back to the drawing board one thinks for me...

I dont think your pic needs the text or the soft focus effect... but that's just my anti photoshop view... ignore me... I think an edgyer sharper more contrast possibly might look better...

Maybe I will have a go too as I've no better ideas... although I really dont have suitable clothes for the down and out effect I was going to go for!

To the image, well I can't see anything wrong with it and its rather stirring. So many possibilities as to whats broken as well, its a make you think shot and we like those :clap:

I always (well usually) go with my first, gut reaction which was "I like it...".

It's a very powerful image; but I did flick-flack momentarily between "Is she flinching or giggling?". The I settled on flinching and it really fits the theme.

I like the clenched fist and the right hand clasping your leg. I think I'd prefer b&w with a tad off the left.

Cheers Mark...and sorry to nip in with your idea but had a feeling someone else would do a simialr thing . Go for it with your version...be nice to see another take on it . The text was in error ( had to look really hard to see it on Flickr so missed it ) & the pp was meant to draw you to the head.
I'm trying to keep away from too much pp but felt it was right on this shot .

Thanks Andy....I never thought of giggling ..... I did try B&W but couldn't make it look as I wanted it so settled on sepia for a change .I think another person to the left with outstretched hand may have added to the scene( but severe lack of models meant I couldn't do it )

How fast is time flying???
Think this must be the most un-inspired week for me...plenty of ideas but not the ability to execute them as I wanted :'( Thought about candles , light bulbs , spelling the word Bright in shiny buttons (bright as a button ) but rapidly running out of time ( short week for me )! Not sure but maybe it's not just me who's struggling with this theme slightly :shrug:

Took the camera to work with an idea as the sun was shining brightly ,alas with a very short lunchbreak & the sun gone by hometime , couldn't get the shot I wanted but reasonably happy with the one below ( I think :lol: ) May not scream Bright to most though , the idea being that my model was looking at a bright(ish) sun :

Driving home I saw some poppies & thought how Bright they looked . The plan was to get a shot with a very dark background so the flower looked even Brighter...failed miserably but kinda like the overall brightness in the shot I did get :

I think you should have left out #1 and just posted #2 which is a pleasing bright shot that suits the theme.

#2 Beautiful image. Lovely colour and detail. Really like this one.

the 1st shot didn't quite hit the mark for me either , think I missed the best of the sun so didn't quite get the effect I wanted:'( POTY is also driving me nuts !

Thanks Patrick . I tried upping the exposure but it seemed to lose the effect I wanted of catching the light on the face & arms .Was aiming for more of a silhouette (sp?)effect but I'll keep trying till I get it right & may repost at some time.

Im also Low on Inspiration and Time this week. I have one I took in NYC I may pull out the bag. Still need to do my hidden reshoot too.

Now for your pics... I like the first image but it's really under exposed to me... I think like others have said it needs pushed in PP a few stops brighter...

The second is one of those flower shots to me which is just OK... It's not bad dont get me wrong... and as i'm a bloke im not hugely into flower shots... but this just lacks interest for me... I much prefer a flower shot looking into the flower if that makes sense. It also looks slightly oversharpened... and could do with more DOF to catch the stem... but thats just me...

Good work though...
