Blondie606's Photo52 2011-Wk 52 Glass & Nature,Challenge Complete

I love your second dragon but feel the shot needs more contrast and sharpening.

I find these still light shots very difficult as it is not what i normally shoot. Lighting is so difficult to manage when you have your hands on it!! Ironic that I prefer the vagaries of the sun ;)

Hi Lynne.

Wk 13 "empty" is a great idea and I love the way the very last drop is just about to fall. Love your description of how you did it. I don't mind the background at all.

Wk14 "object" a good pair of pics. The second one is best for me. Personally I wouldn't worry too much about the backgrounds. For me , a bit of variation in the background is not a bad thing.

lynne.. right now... all i can look at is week 12... and think of how .. yummy that photo looks... can almost...taste the fluffy texture of the sponge...mmmm... and love your empty... i can't say i have the patience yet for that sort of art...

Cheers Kev , & you're right...that cake was scrummy , hoping we get more themes where I can use food  I am finding that this whole challenge is bringing out patience in me that I never knew I had !

Thanks Tina , it's only since I started this challenge that I've taken to Still Life shots & lighting them bugs the hell out of me ! Thankfully now the Bike Race season is about to start I can get back to using daylight & hopefully sun & not worry about shadows & backgrounds:)

Many thanks Patrick , I'm getting more pleased with my Empty shot each time I look at it .I'm doing the DSLR Bootcamp so hopefully once I've learnt loads more I can reshoot & get the background spot on though I'm not overly concerned about it . Glad you like my Dragons

Hiya Lynne, 2 nice photos, number 2 is my preferred one. Well done.

Thanks for popping in Michael , much appreciated

Hi Lynne,
I really like No2 of your Object shots. The detail is far better than on No1. And has as already been mentioned the greater contrast makes a big difference.
Nice one you

Some good photos there and looking through them all you are getting way better rather quick !!

I liked the coke bottle empty (perhaps even less DOF and focussing on the drop might work better). Perhaps have a look into the manual to see whether the camera has a built in interval timer? you could then focus where you want set off the timer so it take say 5 shots two secs apart, and do the pouring/last bit... Just a thought incase you can't get the help you need ;)

Dragons and Anne McCaffrey - love it!
Your blue tint I think might be white balance (affected by white balance setting/auto setting getting it wrong). If you shot raw you can play with the white balance. Some packages have a white spot that you can place on what is meant to be white (Nikon one does) which changes the colours. Sometimes weirdly but others it works well. And there is a counter black spot too.

The Banana shot was imaginative!
Birds - nice n crisp - I can never get that lol :)
The taxis was inspired too!
The flower shot though... wow! Really well done

Wrong...flumoxed me completely , not a single idea (that was legal anyway:lol: ) , tried a couple of things but nothing really appealed .

So a rather weak week from me , running out of time , far too tired from work to really concentrate so thought I'd post a bit of a fun one taken on Sunday at my place of the moment.....Potteric Carr .
Not sure if I was in the right place at the right time or the right place at the WRONG time :D

DSC_8888_copy.jpg

Never work with animals.....

Then last night I had a thought but no time to get organised & go visit the relevant places ,and if I'm honest , I really don't think I want to either as the images hurt too much . So the image below is taken from pictures others have taken but on a subject I feel passionately about .

BE WARNED.....THIS IMAGE MAY DISTRESS YOU & I AM NOT JOKING

superb thats a great set of shots and really does the theme well

Totally with you on the animal cruelty.
It's attempted murder and the owners should do the time.

On a lighter note, that is an angle of a goose I did not want to see.
I thought the socks and sandals shot would be the best wrong, but I think I'm mistaken. :gag: So tell me, why is Potteric Carr your favourite place

Hiya Lynne,

Wow a fantastic set and well done. Your second image made me cry ..... :'( And the message really is strong in the set ..... How cruel some people can be .... they shouldn't be allowed to own animals.

Well done

This week's theme is the toughest for me .... I have an idea, but have lost my 'mojo' at the moment (think it might have to do with being so busy at work and lack of inspiration .... but roll on Friday when I will be on leave for 2 weeks .... hopefully I'll get my mojo back then so I can get some good togging in whilst away camping.)

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hi Lynne,
I have been giving thought to this theme and was only comin up with funny ideas, as I imagined everyone would. Then I saw you post for Wrong. How sobering, lots of expletives spring to mind about the people responsible, but not for here.
Your post for this theme really shows wrong. Thanks for sharing and reminding us of this barbarity.

A dramatic contrast between the two Lynne. Regardless of who took the shots for the second it was well thought out to use them for the theme this week and delivers a worthwhile message.
Very well done.

Well done you for drawing attention to the appalling cruelty some animals suffer. Certainly a powerful message.

Thanks Dawn , wasn't sure about ettiquet for using others shots but really couldn't bring myselfto go to a rescue centre.....apart from the strong possibility of bringing home lots of animals , I find the whole think so upsetting.
Hope you get your mojo back with a nice break , enjoy:thumbs:

Thanks Martin ,I did chuckle when I caught the goose doing his thing , never expected to find a suitable image for Wrong at a nature reserve !

Yes, very powerful and well presented.

Regards.

Thanks Andy

Cheers Colin , must admit to feeling quite weepy when I saw those images ,I HATE those that mistreat animals of any kind

Hi Lynne, I can only agree with what has been said. Good work.

Thanks Michael:thumbs:

The trio of gulls my favourite so far, and I like the cake one too

The wrong image is indeed wrong, so very sad the things that go on, well done for taking an opportunity to raise awareness on a very tough subject, tho i confess i couldnt look for too long x

Lynne, I took one look at the DA and thought..that duck mooning me!!! how dare it.. then i realised that was a stray twig in the shot... urgh... well caught... captured i mean

Kev

Very emotive 2nd image.
Your image was erm.......interesting....!!

Cheers Jeff....timing is everything

Thanks Kev , wish I could get my proper bird shots that flippin sharp

Well ,Paradox had me stumped especially after doing a google for the meaning & trying to figure out how to capture the meaning in a photo  Had a peek at others interpretations & was impressed (still need to get round them & comment )
A discussion with a friend at work started the ball rolling & I've finally managed to get time to do the shots I planned. As I understand it a Paradox can be where the outcome of something is not the expected one ( it seems to have various meanings ) so I'm hoping these shots are in that general theme .
My 1st thought was the Chicken & Egg scenario but , being a bit short in the chicken department ,decided to go with Easter Eggs......

Paradox_2a.jpg

Bit of a play with frame & background , couldn't get the white background the same in both images even though both were shot in the same position & within 5 mins of each other:shrug: so gave up !

This one has to be the messiest shot yet but worked out better than I expected :

paradox1a.jpg

& before anyone says anything about moderation....all eggs went in the bin as I dont like milk chocolate

Hi Lynne, I'll be blunt and say the first shot isn't for me although I like the border and it fits well with the image.
The second shot however I really like. Fits the theme very well and has been set up and shot really well.
Is the background a teflon pan?
Nice vignette and border too. Well done.

Hi Lynne, love the second shot, good take on the chicken/egg paradox. Also like the way you've composed the shot & the colours work well against the background.

Many thanks Andy , glad someone else thinks I've got the theme right

Cheers Colin , I'm not too happy with the 1st shot either so no worries :)
Errr...for teflon pan read piece of black card  Thanks for the compliments on the set up , for a change only took me 3 mins !

I also love the second shot. I was looking at a chicken/egg theme, but am having to rethink.

Why the rethink....you out of chickens as well  Go for it , would be good to see anothers take on it

Hiya Lynne,

Love your take on the theme and makes me so luss for a creme egg (may have to raid Roo's Easter egg supply tonight) yum yum!

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hi, Lynne, second one for me, well thought out. I like the black backing and composition. Parts of the photograph look a bit soft??

You threw the eggs away....ggggrrrrrr....:D

Cheers.

Hi Lynne. I really like your second shot for Paradox. Really quirky combining the eggs and gives a great interest to the image. The background and framing really compliment the subject. Nice one Lynne

Who in their right mind doesn't eat Creme Eggs though - what a waste

i too thought about the chicken and egg scenario but my missus was getting twitchy last Sunday when I was eyeing up the uncooked chicken with an egg in my hand

Lynne

You have produced a couple of excellent shots for the Paradox theme, my preference is for the second one but both are well lit and well composed.

Well done

All I could think of was replicating a single frame cartoon I saw once with a chicken and an egg smoking in bed, and one saying "Well now we know".

Hi ya , just spotted your Paradox & love it

Many thanks David, appreciate your comments given the quality of your work:thumbs:

Love teh second paradox shot and I'd have lied and said it was an old teflon pan :$

My brain doesn't work that fast Tina:lol:

Hi Martin...I hate Creme Eggs:D 7 thanks for the chuckle...can just imagine the scene you describe

Must admit to feeling quite uninspired by this one even though we've had almost tropical weather for the last few weeks . My mind refused to step of the box but I really didn't want to play a joker or miss a week so resorted to some past photo's , was either that or put a place holder in till Sept when I'm off to Kenya .

So here goes :

Tropical_2.jpg

Taken in the Tropical House in the very exotic location of Leeds !

This little fella joined me for lunch in the Kruger Park last year & this is my fave capture of him

Tropical_1.jpg

Seem to have lost my get up n go for this at the mo,far to busy at work , too many photo's to get sorted for various people & a very hectic month ahead ( though by Dawn's standards I lead a very quiet life  )

Two great shots Lynne and I agree with Tina the second one would be my pick because it's so unusual. Think everyone will lose inspiration for a short while at some point through the year, best to get it over with now before the summer when we all be highly motivated I'm sure.

Hiya Lynne,

First of all, I'm sorry to hear you have felt a bit uninspired lately, I thought you seemed a bit quiet. I do hope you get your inspiration back very soon as I really look forward to your work, you are making such great progress with your photography and are definitely onto a good thing. Don't feel alone .... we all at some point experience the same .... and if ever you need to chat, a pep talk, or a kick up the bum .... you have my mobile number and email addy .... just yell and I will be here to listen. BTW my life is always hectic, even when it isn't

Onto your submissions for this week .... well what can I say, except FANTASTIC , both bang on target for the theme.

I can't recall what the flower is called, but seen many of those whilst living in South Africa (had them growing in the garden) .... sorry took my friend out for her birthday meal tonight and had a good time .... so my memory fades me on the name now ... but I will wake up in the morning and remember :D However, that is a brilliant photo, the colours are vibrant and the composition is spot on .... who would have guessed this was taken in Leeds of all places :p I knew it would come to me in the morning .... the flower is called Hibiscus :D

Onto the second photo .... well that is a CRACKER of a shot of a Yellow Hornbill ( I remember the name of that one) .... they are such gorgeous little characters. You mention you took that one at the Kruger Park last year ... well gal .... your photography is fab! Bet you had a great time there .... it is a fabulous place ... and if I had the funds I would be going there again this year .... only thing is I'm having to shell out a fortune for camper van repairs, so that trip will have to wait till next year :bang: Do you have other photos of your visit to KNP? I'd love to see them.

Lynne ... you have just proved to us that you have it in you to be a great photographer .... so don't for a minute think of fading otherwise I will have to get the :bat: :D

Keep up the good work babes, I know it is tough, but believe me it will be worth it in the end (cliche , I know ... but I mean it).

Oh and how jealous I am that you have a trip planned to Kenya in September .... that is just not so fair :'( I bet you will get some ace shots whilst you are there.

Cheers

Dawn  (because I feel you need one ;))
