weekly Blondie606's 52 2013 Wk 52 Water-The End :-(

Hey Lynne  How the hell did I get so far behind here? Best I play catch up:

Angle, I LOVE number one, everything about the angle of the bike and the adverse camber is so wrong! I am looking on my iPad but is the bike a touch OOF? Although I have no ability to catch objects in focus travelling towards me so feel I have no right to make such a comment!
Number two I've seen (and been on the back of) my husband pulling a similar move, all long before I passed my test and had a clue! Great composition though.
My only crit of number three is your signature is right across the middle of the shot!

Rustic, nice detail and lighting, the tone suits it. I like the border but it is a tad thick and encroaching a bit too far on the LHS for me.

Kind, I don't know what you mean about Fairy being rubbish for bubbles, you should just do what my father in law does and use half the bottle, no problems then:bonk: I think a darker background would have helped a bit to separate the bubbles from the background.

Vertical, lovely detail in the trunk and leaves, nice composition with the trunk drawing your eye through the shot
The panning shot is good too, just a hint of detail in the bottom half of the shot.

Angle reshoot, great spot, you, could have swept first though ;)
Like the Clumber building too, hope you didn't get too wet?

Love your lessons learned, did you lie in some doggy doo doo? I get very angry at doggy doo doo!

Pattern, I was looking at your Flickr earlier today, some great images on there. I think the leaf is really good but does look a tiny bit on the soft side, but a great effort considering it was blowing in the breeze! The flutterby is totally stunning though, amazing detail, just perfect

Phew, all caught up again :) I'll try not get that far behind again!

Now have you got more bike shots for this week?

Butterfly gets the  from me :D

Thanks for that

Hi Lynne,

Both great shots, with lovely details.

Cheers Allie :)

lovely butterfly shot lynne - side on view showing off the patterns in the wing perfectly. Well done on the settings to get (just) enough DOF without compromising ISO or shutter speed.
Maybe a little tight at the bottom if I'm to be picky?? But great detail in the little hairs around the wing.

Thanks Graham....yeah bottom is little close but there were a few straggly plants bits that irritated me but I couldn't clone them well enough so crpped them instead

Hi Lynne
Butterfly is a superb image nice patterns as you say, excellent DoF and excellent focus on the butterfly

Many thanks Allan

I'm going to have to comment in chunks, sorry. I'm on page 14, and really like Angle no 3; a really great shot.

Not sure about Rustic; the sepia tone seems to have removed any contrast, and made interpretation difficult, and there are weird horizontal streaks at the top (maybe that's the "border" some have been commenting on). (Actually a closer look shows that it is... and sorry, I really don't like it!) Also, the wall almost appears transparent as the shadows on it echo the stems behind. OTOH, it definitely is Rustic (and possibly deliberately so).

Kind: that works really well. I was looking for those bottles that used to say "kind to hands" but they don't seem to have that any more. Perhaps it's the "truth in advertising" laws! Vertical number 1 works really well too; didn't understand the pano, which seems to be just streaks. The re-shot angles aren't as arresting as your original no 3, IMHO. And well done to get those patterns on the butterfly in particular: it's hard to get the little blighters to stay still long enough, but that looks perfectly in focus!

Thanks for the catch up Chris.....the border on Rustic is real marmite but I was playing in PSE with borders & textures

Both work very well for me. I just love the simplicity of #1 though and the diagonal line. Very well seen and shot (how did you get that butterfly to stay so still?)

Thanks M....I spent about 2 hours chasin those little butterflies around & finally found one still...it was either knackered from being chased by me or it was feeding !

Love the shadows for vertical. Gorgeous framing and angle.

But that leaf shot is something really special. The precision of it is fab.

Many thanks , much appreciated comments from you :)

Hi Lynne, I Love them both in their own ways. Superb.

Thanks Brian

Wow...thanks for the mega catch up Marsha...much appreciated...

the signature straight accross the bike was intentional....I making a point to someone :D

Yeah , the leaf is def a smidge oof...think I will try that one again but take a leaf home & back light it in the house to stop the wind !

Alas no , no bike shots for this weeks theme....though if I venture to Matlock tomorrow I may just get one :D

Wk 21 & Movement & not a bike in sight !

Knew what I wanted to shoot , got the result I wanted so a happy bunny this week :D

Only dilemma is B&W or color

Wk 21 Movement by llj666, on Flickr

not sure if I should have gone for longer exposures ...tried a couple but the blades almost disappeared . Tried out a ND8 hard grad filter which is why the sky went a bit iffy in the mono .
So over to you guy's n gals to rip it apart...won't stop me being a happy bunny though
Actually , on reflection...not sure either really shows movement....however , it's implied movement.....

No need to rip it apart by any means! Looks good to me
This was on my list too, either the ones near J30 M1 or the M1/M18 junction....

Maybe even a smaller aperture, a quarter of a second exposure would have been enough to get a bit more movement.
Would like to see the colour version if only for the sky...

movement in the blades, works for me....... I need some ND filters :)

hello Lynne

I prefer the colour as the sky is cool and blades merge into the sky

I also like the hint of the yellow rape seed fields.

Nice one

Hi Lynne
I think the B&W just shades it for me, I do like the higher contrast feel to it.
That big fluffy cloud really does add something to it. Any reason you never posted the colour version of the B&W? Just curious

Great work Lynne (as always), not long now until the trip :D

Hi Lynne:wave:
The sky in the B+W is great but I also like the slightly muted colours in the colour one sorry to non committal but they both work in their own way

Two great shots for pattern, both showing some fine details but the flutterby is :clap:

'ello, Movement B&W for me, mainly due to the detail in the clouds. Nice sense of movement 1/10 shutter speed works well. To nit pick, perhaps waits a tad more to get perfect symmetry in the blades.

Cheers.

The Orange tip is a lovely pic Lynne, would be my preferred choice over the leaf, which I like too. Movement, can't quite make my mind up on these, I like the b+w with those nice clouds, I also like the colour version, the field on the far right keeps taking my eye away though. The more I look back, the more I like the b+w version better.

They're both nice shots Lynne! I think the colour nudges it for me though, I like the blue of the sky coming through, which doesn't have as much contrast in B&W. Nice work on capturing the movement too, love it! Will have to find some windmill / turbine esque subjects and have a go myself!

Movement, nice choice of subject and 2 shots that are both good. Your OCD must want the blade position of the second shot for the first as well for symmetry. I think I would have gone for the colour if all the field in the background were yellow so B&W for me just.

B&W of the turbine absolutely rocks for me. movement in the blades just right, any more and I could see the tips disappearing, nothing iffy about the sky for me, those wispy streaks top right are implying movement to me too. Love the contrast there too.

Hi Carl , i cant choose a fave ,like them both for different reasons

Thanks Iain...why didn't I post the color version of the B&W one...??? cos I'm a nit wit :D

No worries Al...I'm a bit the same way...non commital to either as a preference too

B&W for me, just enough movement in the blades, good shot

Hi ya , thanks , glad you like it...wasn't sure if there was enough movement but it apears there is :)

Two great shots for pattern, both showing some fine details but the flutterby is :clap:

Cheers Foggy....I'm must confess to loving that flutterby myself:love:

Thanks Andy.....took a few shots but gave up waiting for the perfect sysmetry shot...was far to windy !

I vote B&W. Lovely pic that Lynne

Thanks foggy , I was hoping for all the fields to be full of rape but no such luck....& yes OCD kicking in but far to windy to hang around trying in vain to get the perfect symetry....always be another time cos they ain't going anywhere

Just a quick question.....with regards to the 2 shots for movement...... I never realised that the tops of the turbine rotated ???

Both shots were taken from exactly the same position , cropped a smidge more at the bottom & a smidge less on the lhs in the color verison...but where the blades fix to the pole is definately different....

some one please check & confirm if I'm seeing things

The B&W has it for me, the sky almost looks painted... very atmospheric. The movement in the blades and the harsh shadows around the centre works really well.

You're right Lynne - they can rotate. They can turn themselves into the wind to maximise output power.. And it's also likely they will turn at a similar speed regardless of wind strength, altering the pitch of the blades or the internal load / gearing to suit.

Lovely butterfly shot. :)

I slightly prefer the black and white movement shot.

Hi Lynne

Sorry but I have fallen behind a bit - having looked at my 2012 challenge I saw that I hit a bit of a doldrum at about week19.

Vertical - like the pov and colours on the tree. spot on theme. Not sure that the pan works.

Angles and shadows - good capture of the floorscape and def on theme. good contrast between the angles of the flags and the angles of the shadows. I think that the glasshouse shot is v good. Perhaps a bit less sky and abit more contrast, but I like the detail.

Pattern - leaf is good, well composed but maybe a little soft. Butterfly is great - beautiful focus, tones and colours

Movement - both good shots which convey the theme ~1 mono for me as the blades seem to have more movement and this is echoed by the diagonal clouds which seem to be scudding by

Thanks for the mega catch up Al.....no apologies needed , it's a struggle sometimes to keep going with the photo's let alone the commenting :)

Definitely mono for me, and very annoyed that yours is light years better than mine.

CURSE YOU!

Ahh but if that were true...your owl shot is simply stunning

Pattern: Great shot, fab detail and lighting. Love the colour! Like the butterfly shot too.

Movement: B&w for me, nice movement in the turbine and sky.

Finally got round to getting shots of cards & on to computer...though in all honesty I don't know why I bothered with Week 22......

No crit or comments required for this one as I know it's pants ...but post & be dammed !

When I saw the theme the words from a Kim Wilde song sprang to mind..."down below the cars in the city go rushing by "..unfortunately that's as good as it gets :bang:
Wrong day of the week & too early for lots of traffic , a car park where the security guy's had me sign a disclaimer  & insisted I couldn't use a tripod...still....this is a definite reshoot ...I've written it down & pinned it to the wall so I don't forget :D

Wk 22 below by llj666, on Flickr

the reshoot is gonna be whenever I see an opportunity & save it for a reshoot week.....time is scarce enough....that's my new rule & I'm gonna stick to it :D

& moving swiftly on to Week 23...Size.....

hmmmm...thought about doing Andy's suggestion of Forced Perspective ....for about 30 sec's ! Have got an idea for that but it involves being at work & I really can't be ars** to do that today !
So , I went small bug hunting & came up with this.....think it show the size of the bug against the flower statemen quite nicely...the flower is approx 1inch across

Wk 23 Size by llj666, on Flickr

Went for slightly high key effect & with the exception of the slightly darker green area top left I'm really pleased with how it's turned out .Tried to desat the green a bit which created a bit of banding on the petal edges but hey....

other stuff I learnt....

there's never a bug around when you need one !
Macro in the wind is hard work !
A tripod really is useful...I figured that out after 10 attempts at handheld!
The blackbirds are getting used to me being in their garden & stayed around to watch what I was up to :D

Hi Lynne:wave:

Under, well it is on theme it just seems a bit busy and the lack of cars dont help but at least its in and you have time to think about it for a reshoot

Size is excellent  superb colour, perfect focus and composition, thats so much better than mine and quite right you should be pleased with it

I also have learnt the same things from macro.

Below, on it's own it's a nice urban B&W shot but I think you need a lot more height for it to be more on theme.

Below, isn't as bad as you think. Nice detail and the b&w works well. I'd agree, a higher elevation would have helped.

Small, cracking detail, composition and lovely muted colours.

Now, put your feel up for the rest of the week (photographically speaking :))

Cheers.

I like the Below Lynne, bang on theme. Below, fantastic summery image with nice colours and composition :D

below - like the clouds ;)

LOVE the bug on the flower for size... WOW - even if it were a big flower - the bug would be small, but as its a small flower....

Great soft colours - well done getting her in the same focal plane as the stamens, DOF working for you here - rather than against due to this fact.
