weekly Blondie606's 52 2013 Wk 52 Water-The End :-(

Good story Lynne. I hope you crossed your fingers behind your back when you lied, bad girl :nono:

These things are almost back in fashion now (mark my words).:gag:

Tacky, very nice and well tacky. The red really pops and the tacky border was a cracking idea. You've handled the whites well and the composition :D works for me.

Cheers.

Tacky - brilliant picture, bang on theme and the border compliments it nicely. :)

Good work there Lynne
Bang on theme, with your processing emphasising the point

I particularly like your backstory to getting the shot

Hmmmmmmmm tacky.......on a Fiat Punto or a Ford Ka maybe but on a Porsche :nono::nono::nono::nono::nono:

I think the first picture is strong enough on it's own the second is let down by the white road marking.

Great story Lynne. I had a red Vauxhall Astra (Mk2) with hubcaps that I sprayed pea-green back in my teenage-hood. Now that was tacky!

I like the composition of the two images and the colour matched border. Works well!

Ian.

Loving the back story there Lynne - made me laugh out loud you did...

Yeah - why not, shot's a good 'un. The only thing I could suggest would be if you'd asked them to roll forward a foot so the badge in the top pic was vertical..... :coat:

Loving the border too...... ;)

.

Cheers for that...always good to make people laugh :D

 Great effort. It did make me chuckle.

As you've already mentioned about the clipping of the wheels i won't mention it. Albeit to say i quite like the cropping in the top photo but the bottom one needs a rethink.

PS Did you mention to the owner you were taking a shot for the "Tacky" theme for the week :lol:

err...NO...figured a smile & Nice car comment was the safer option...then ran ....
Hi Lynne,

Your story made me laugh. I do like a Porsche but not in these colours, definitely tacky! I wish there was a video of your hasty exit
I like both cropped shots, it works well as a dyptich and the red border suits it. It's just a tad thick for me.

Keep going though, for year number three you're doing well.

Cheers Marsha....this year is proving somewhat more difficult than the last 2 !

Hi Lynne

Given the hilarity of your tale and the hazards that you are prepared to chance in your quest for the 52 Challenge, I can only say that they are great. :D  The border just emphasises the theme.

Well done

Thanks Al....

Great shots and well presented as always

Very tacky indeed!! ;) Maybe i'm a tad jealous of the porsche but for me it has to be black everytime.

Thanks Allie...yup, black for me too...don't mind white but NOT with red wheels & decals :gag:

its certainly tacky just goes to show money can't buy good taste, sounds like you had fun getting the pic too

So true Al....

That is truly awful... good spot!

I really like the composition of the top shot, and the colour and focus works well. I think the bottom shot just has a little too much white in it for me, and sort of runs into the white dividing bit. Could quite easily be down to my crappy laptop screen though.

Nope, doubt it's your laptop as I thought the same but as the car was white couldn't really do much about it ..sorry :'(

Nice car, nice shot! Tacky too! Tacky on anything other than a GT3 RS in my opinion! ;)
Two shots work well and gives a little more context than just the single shot. Colours are nice and bright and the shot is sharp too, nice work! :)

Thanks

Electric: Really like both shots, great colours.

Direction: First shot for me, very interesting.

Tacky:Great shot and story! Like the colours in there.

Cheers Lisa

Good story Lynne. I hope you crossed your fingers behind your back when you lied, bad girl :nono:

These things are almost back in fashion now (mark my words).:gag:

I have a sneaky feeling you may well be right there Brian

Tacky, very nice and well tacky. The red really pops and the tacky border was a cracking idea. You've handled the whites well and the composition :D works for me.

Cheers.

Cheers Andy
Tacky - brilliant picture, bang on theme and the border compliments it nicely. :)

Many thanks :)

Good work there Lynne
Bang on theme, with your processing emphasising the point

I particularly like your backstory to getting the shot

Thanks Iain....hope the couple of own the car aren't on flickr...or here

Tacky; I love it!
Personally I may have been tempted to tell them why I was taking the shot :naughty:

Hi ya stranger ,I'm not quite that insane...I quite like my camera in one piece & he was bigger than me .....
Hmmmmmmmm tacky.......on a Fiat Punto or a Ford Ka maybe but on a Porsche :nono::nono::nono::nono::nono:

I think the first picture is strong enough on it's own the second is let down by the white road marking.

Cheers Colt...did try cloning the white line out but failed so left as is....& oh yes ,red wheels & stripes are very tacky on a scrummy car like that

Great story Lynne. I had a red Vauxhall Astra (Mk2) with hubcaps that I sprayed pea-green back in my teenage-hood. Now that was tacky!

I like the composition of the two images and the colour matched border. Works well!

Ian.

Cheers Ian,thanks for popping in

I know I know....

Been feeling a lot uninspired by the theme's recently ...so my get up n go went on holiday !

Value......somewhere on Google I managed to find some info on card Games & apparently Ace's can be High Value or Low Value depending what game you're playing . I made some notes but alas forgot the important bit...which Value goes with which game , Googled again but can't find it :bang:

Anyways...these may( or may not) be 2 winning hands from 2 different card games...one has the Ace with High Value & one with Low Value....at least that's my theory...possibly...

Wk 14 Value by llj666, on Flickr

& I remain uninspired for Wk 15 :'(

& moving quickly on to Wk 15.....
Greed is far too close to Gluttony for me so went in search of an alternative view point on good ole Google !

I have no idea who Josh Billings is but apparently he said this :
"Avarice is like a graveyard; it takes all that it can get and gives nothing back " hmmmmmm....got me to thinking bout graveyards...then I though of the hundreds of thousands of Military personnel (specifically WW2)who gave their lives defending our freedom from Hitler who ,it could be said ,was incredibly greedy , in wanting to rule everyone....are you still with me here ?
So tenuous it maybe but here it is... x 2

Now can we please have a better theme next week

Just googled Josh Billings...it was the pen name of 19th century American humorist Henry Wheeler Shaw ...He was perhaps the second most famous humor writer and lecturer in the United States in the second half of the 19th century after Mark Twain....so there ya go :D

Hi Lynne, well done on your catch up firstly

I like your idea of Greed, a completely different take and not something that comes to mind straight away. Im liking shot 1 the best. :) great pp and in keeping with the subject photographed.

Hi lynne
Greed shot 1 for me, like the PP looks like an old postcard and you have it fitting the theme so well, nice explanation ;) only trouble is whats the betting next weeks theme is avarice

I like the DOF in Value, but there's a little speck just above the top corner of the Ace of Hearts that keeps drawing my eye.

Greed - That's not so tenuous with the explanation given. I'm torn between the two. I really like the tones in #1, and the comp works in both, but the addition of the path in #2 really adds something for me, making the background accessible.

value - I struggled with too, but its sharp - well laid out, colurs and blacks / whites are spot on.... it is on theme too. Not sure on the DOF why attention should be drawn to one hand rather than the other..

But your greed shot is great - processing and simple composition making this a winner for me. Lovely subtle detail in the clouds making it for me.

Processing looks like the effect you'd get from split-toning, where a B&W version has one colour added to the highlights and another added to the shadows.

Value: I also used a card game (in a different context to you) so great minds think alike eh ;)

Greed: I like the lateral thinking... prefer the second one myself, apart from the composition, there seems to be a greater range of tones and seems to have better contast.

15 weeks in, nearly 1/3 of the way there

Value: Every time someone posts something, it seems really simple and obvious in retrospect, so why on earth couldn't I think of it? :bang:

A good, original take on the theme with nice DOF and the colours standing out (was the use of hearts deliberate for the colour? If so, good thinking).

Greed: Took me a minute to figure out the connection with the theme, but again a good original perspective.

I like the first image for it's simplicity and the fact that the subject stands out more, but I love the colouring on the second one.

Hi Lynne,

Value, you are correct the ace can be a one as in your top hand for Blackjack (or 11 in the same game) or ace high in games like Poker. So your shot is fitting for the theme. I think I'd like to see both hands in focus though.

Greed, you nearly lost me on this one. I started drifting at the Avarice bit. It's a very tenuous link but I like both shots for different reasons. I like the sepia feel in the first one, it gives it an aged feel, I also like the path in the second shot. Both are nice and sharp.

I think you've done so well to still be going with your third 52! And yes this year is much harder than last, the list of themes have been a bit of a struggle!

Greed - Both nice shots, nice subtle PP works well too. A little bit of a reach maybe on the theme - but hey, you've justified it with the blurb! :) I think it's a tricky theme this week having had Gluttony so recently too! Nice job Lynne! :)

Tacky, lovely jubbly! Go faster stripes and bright red wheels, it has to be the tackiest shot I've seen so far. (And the things you'll do for a photo... just imagine, if that lady had engaged you in conversation for another minute, the warden migt have been nearer to writing his ticket, and you might actually have dented the tacky thing! Bet your heart was thumping after all that ;-)

Really like that second one for greed, great shot and spot on composition.

Hi Lynne.

I love graveyards and really like your magenta ish image.

Like you Greed and Gluttony so close is a real shame.

I like the graveyard images but the link to the theme is quite weak (says me - lol!). You have done a good job in retaining the detail in the sky.

H, Value...never had a royal flush :bonk: great colours and on theme. No crit on this one.

Greed, I like the tonal range and detail in #1, just the branches an issue. Prefer #1, well composed and I like the processing. Link..... :D

Here's hoping for a non sins photograph next week :D

Cheers.

Value....simple shot and effective shot, I don't play cards so any explanation is lost on me :D

Greed....I agree it's close to gluttony so  for trying to find a twist on it. I prefer the first but would take a little off the top, the second would be close except for the tree on the left is a little too prominent.

Hi Lynne
Quite a tenuous link to the theme for greed but your backstory helps it along.
Its tough at times not to take a literal approach to the weekly themes so  for trying something different.
I like both for different reasons, #1 I particularly like your processing here, the aged feel really suits the subject.
#2 compositionally is very good IMHO. The path leads the viewers eye in and through the scene within which you've captured lots of detail

Jeepers.....think I need to go to spec savers

Cheers mister...used DOF on Value just to try n make it slightly more interesting...tis a boring shot afterall :'(
As for the pp on Greed...simple case of twiddling the sliders till it looked about right

Cheers Chris....def raised the blood pressure a little... go faster stripes on Porche....WHY?????

Really like that second one for greed, great shot and spot on composition.

Thanks mister

Hi Lynne.

I love graveyards and really like your magenta ish image.

Like you Greed and Gluttony so close is a real shame.

Yeah...graveyards have a strange appeal...does that make us weird

I like the graveyard images but the link to the theme is quite weak (says me - lol!). You have done a good job in retaining the detail in the sky.

Yup....slightly weak link but hey , the crowbar has to come out to play every now n then

H, Value...never had a royal flush :bonk: great colours and on theme. No crit on this one.

Cheers Matey.....back story ??? hours of research( well ,15 mins at least) went in to finding the connection to the theme with that photo :D

& still on the theme of tenuous links......

Soon as I saw the theme I knew what I wanted to shoot......all those not interested in bike racing feel free to skip my thread this week :D

#1
aside from all the angles in the brickwork , the track is at angle as it 's quite heavily cambered to the right ( if you're on it),the bike has a slight lean angle on it & this guy is pulling a seriously strange angle ....knee down...oohh no siree , not for me...I'll just hang off

Wk 16 Angle by llj666, on Flickr

#2.........for those non bikers amongst us....Oulton Park circuit goes uphill here....the bike is angled upwards in a wheelie & also has a slight lean angle towards the camera

Wk 16 Angle 2 by llj666, on Flickr

& 1 more for luck......talk about a lean angle....

DSC_8995 by llj666, on Flickr

think yourselves real lucky I only put 3 up...got some 800 shots from Oulton yesterday ...& I'm not worried about the link to the theme cos I was out there in the sunshine with friends having a great time

Great series there Missus
All super sharp shots but #1 gets my vote, colours, composition, sense of movement all come together to make it.
No back story required for these, bang on theme and a great day out as well.
