Blocking the X platform

It's a product and everyone's talking about it.

The worlds richest man and, arguably, greatest engineering project manager, probably knows what he's doing.

I suspect you and Derek are either unaware because you restricted yourself to unaffected bubbles or you're blinded by your own biases. On either account, fair enough, but all that was going on was probably very hard to miss.

You could always try and do some research, with a open mind. The facts of what went on are relatively easy to find and are I think undeniable. Sadly what went on at Twitter wasn't restricted to Twitter. The facts of what went on and are perhaps still going on (it's a while since I looked at this) if not so much at Twitter but at other social media/internet companies should be easy to find. If you wish to find them.

I am open-minded and had no restrictions apart from not spending countless hours doom-scrolling unlike others. Kinda pointless to research now, I’m not active on any mainstream social media platform anymore and have no desire to be (y)

He said recently, I think on the subject of being bankrupted because he wont keep his mouth shut and follow the chosen agenda something like this...

"Offer me money, offer me power. I don't care."

And yet you make your uninformed statements here? Nice.

I get that you don't like Musk but you should at least have some idea what has been happening and what he has to some degree tried to stop or at least limit.

Honestly. You could get a flavour for what has been happening on several platforms very easily. Within an hour I'd guess. If you try I hope you find it shocking. Any fair minded person should.

You can say whatever you want after saving NASA billions while giving them a platform that actually works.

Nope, going to go and enjoy my evening thanks, try baiting someone else

I don’t recall that experience with pre-musk twitter at all. Was it perfect? Hells no! But I’d definitely say it was leaps and bounds better than what it has become.

There were a lot of issues with bots and undesirables, but I don’t think that’s fundamentally changed, if anything it’s got worse.

Pre Musk, I was banned from Twitter for saying that humans cannot change sex, so I think that you may be barking up the wrong tree. I also said that blokes shouldn't be competing in women's sports - apparently that was bigoted.

I'm on twitter a lot and have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. I can't "do some research" as I have no idea what you think I shoud be researching. One link to a credible mainstream media website (say Reuters or the BBC, or the FT if you prefer traditional print media) will do.

You mention "free speech" in an earlier post. What right to "free speech" do you think you have on a commercial platform exactly? What right do you think a US citizen has?

No barking here, and as I’ve already said, the Twitter of old was far from perfect and definitely not without its issues. Anyway, I respect your views so carry on

Musk shouldn't be promoting it as free speech if he is actively censoring people. That's just hypocritical.

I never used Twitter, but since changing to X I've spent a little time experimenting on it and whilst I have no doubt that the algorithms are hard at work creating an echo chamber, the copious amounts of uncensored video footage showing some horrific events is far beyond what I had imagined. It certainly paints a picture that the Western world has a serious problem and seemingly an awful lot of stuff doesn't reach mainstream media.

However, in the spirit of research and critical thinking, I now need to see if I can get the platform to demonstrate an echo chamber of the opposite nature. I'll need to drink a few soy milk lattes first* but it will be interesting to see if the algorithms are based on my input, or have a external bias to them. Time will tell....

* Humour

You are a brave man Graham - both for drinking soya milk lattes and for being willing to wade into the cesspit of X

Aye for sure lol. I ignore the actual comments and I never comment either, it's mainly just the videos I watch and it's interesting to see how my lack of actual input appears to have little bearing on the algorithm.

Come to think of it, I certainly hope that there is a strong algorithm at play, otherwise, it would suggest that things are far worse than they already seem!

But you got me thinking; is it a cesspit because it shows uncensored content, or is it the content of the videos that makes it a cesspit?

I can only reference our own slightly less pungent dungeon of dark discourse, Hot Topics, and say that it's the content that defines the pungency of such corners of the web. Sensible discussion, with manners and courtesy, and associated visual content, can be whatever the authors decide. TikTok may content a load of tripe, not that I've actually looked, but no-one says it is offensive and disgusting the way they do about X.
BTW I'm not sure Musk is such a genius project manager. He is a visionary, yes, with the money to hire incredibly talented people, but I doubt he manages projects well. I suspect his style is "deliver or depart". I worked for one like that once in banking, who used a nutcracker and cheese grater as emblems of his management style: deliver or this is what I do to your nuts.

I reckon Hot Topics is nigh on angelic compared to X lol

I used to get sucked down the rabbit hole that is TikTok, mainly for funny videos. But sometimes the algorithm would suddenly plunge me into other stuff. But it's definitely heavily censored and from my experiences with the inconsistency of the moderation and people on it saying how easily they could be banned from both videos and comments, I reckon it is predominately automated/AI moderation.

I can understand why Governments would want X banned/blocked as it can very much go against agendas (regardless of leaning). I think I would prefer X to stay, but it should be heavily promoted as being all unverified and treated with caution. Spreading misinformation should be tackled directly in my opinion, although perhaps not so easy when being done by users outside of the UK jurisdiction. Whilst I ignore the comments, I have come across videos etc where someone has called it out as being untrue, perhaps more of that sort of self moderation should be encouraged?

When I did jobs in banking I met a few like that. There was one character I ran into who would have been drummed out of the Stasi for bringing them into disrepute.

But most of the people I met in that area were decent, hard working folk who were good to work with. It only takes one... :(
