Camera is bad. Really, really bad.

The phone itself is good and the touch pad roller mouse thing works well.

You won't use the camera, it is that bad.

Blackberry's are great, on my second one now. Although as neil_g stated its great for emails and general txting/bbm. Camera is a bit rubbish and the music player is decent but not great.

I've had the Curve 8520 for a little over a month - Virgin £10/month contract - and like it a lot. It's easier to use than the Nokia E71 that I was using before and setting up email, etc., was a doddle.

The camera is, at best, average with no autofocus or flash but it can take good pictures as long as you remember its limitations.

Overall I'm pretty pleased with mine ... it is what it is - a low cost business phone. It's not an alternative to the iphone :)

Bold here and no problems but I wouldn't use the camera for anything serious.
You should be able to get any contract on Direct Debit if you don't have a cc.

Out of interest do either of you two know whether or not I would require a credit card to enter into that contract. Don't have a CC and not planning on getting one either!

All I was asked for was a bank card (debit card). They already had my details from my VirginMedia tv/internet/phone account. You have 28 days to try the phone and return it if you're not happy - no reason needed, even if you don't like the colour they'll cancel the contract for you.

VM currently piggyback their their mobile network onto Orange but with the imminent merger between Orange and Talk Mobile they may have to look for an alternative. O2 would appear to be their best option in that scenario and I don't know what their network coverage is like. Not sure how soon this change would have to take place, if at all.

remember that this BB has no 3G so internet will be really slow on it....good enough for email but thats it...

sounds like youve made your mind up, but personally i wouldnt..

watch out for additional blackberry taffifs also.

Yep. I moved from an iPhone to a Blackberry and there is an extra £5 per month charge for Blackberry Services. Bit **** really considering the iPhone was an all in price.

I use Blackberry 9000.

My opinion: phone is by far the best email service, very average for anything else.

Simple as that.

Curve 8900 here and I love it. Mind you I work out of the office more than I work in it and email on the move is a god send to me. I'll echo others about the quality of the camera, not good at all.

What email service are you planning to use?

They are excellent so long as you use a blackberry email address eg the one VM give you, but exchange support is a mare to do and a bodge job.

For the money you are looking to spend, check out getting a 3G or 3Gs iPhone. I have had a work BB too, and would choose the iPhone for its OS and compatibility any day of the week.

BIS is very good for normal domestic ISP email, never had any problems (my office isn't big enough to warrant an exchanger server).

Agreed. Not amazingly compatible if you already have a domain though.

I have the BB Curve as my work phone on the VIrgin £10 a month tarrif and iPhone as my personal phone.

Really like the BB, simple to use and better battery life. USe the BBM on it to chat with daughter, but to be fair I have unlimited texts on iphone so makes no odds.

I do not have a credit card, nor can I get one, but they accepted me. I had to pay £5 for postage and it arrived the next day.

Good service all round.

Totally disagree. Set up email on Blackberry for aol account in less than 30 seconds and it works perfectly. Now done that on five Blackberry phones. Email efficiency and practicality is great. I use it here and in the US with no problems.

9000 is also a good phone for the basic function of making phone calls.

The apps are c**p

Sorry David - should have been more clear. I meant they are a mare to set up if you have your own domain email (as many togs here will).

And I totally agree about the apps

your suggestions are welcome Neil ... :)

i dont like the multiple email account handling on the 8520 either.. dumps it all in one big inbox.

It needn't, IIRC from my 8820 (which should be running the same OS) you could hide individual mailboxes and just have the one combined mailbox or you could unhide the individual mailboxes if you preferred to keep them seperate, you can also do the same with SMSs.

none of us in the IT dept could see any option to split them out? doesnt matter now as i have my personal desire..

I quite like the look of the HTC HD Mini. Nice looking bit of kit!

^ Not had a play with one though so not a recommendation!

I have thought about HTC. It's just the price though, they seem pretty expensive, and a lot of them have touch keyboards, which I would rather avoid. Do you know of any that have QWERTY none touch keyboard?

HTC desire Z :)

or motorola milestone ?

I just picked up the Bold 9000 last night for £110.

I suggest you look at this? It has 3G, but a crap camera, but lets be honest, a phone is to make calls and to text. The only thing the curve has that is better is a little application space I think, and a better camera? Somebody correct me if I am wrong.

iPhone 4 it is then. That's the only one I would go for.

I got one last week but ended up taking it back for a brand new one and selling it. It cut calls all the time and the signal was poor all the time.

I had a 3GS before this which was brilliant.

If it wasn't for the signal problems, I would still have an iPhone 4.
