Hi folks,

I'm off to Vietnam in October for a hiking/kayaking trip and looking for a suitable camera since my 8-year old Ixus is starting to wear out.

I really don't want to be carrying anything more than a handheld camera and given the climate I was thinking of getting one of the rugged/waterproof compacts that have come onto the market lately, although I don't actually plan to use it under water (so depth sealed is not vital).

My big concerns are picture quality (particularly at high ISO) and availability of spare batteries (limited chance to charge batteries on the two week trip - I typically buy two spare batteries for all my cameras).

Based in the UK (if that limits recommendations).

Many thanks.

I used to have an Olympus model but it ceased to be waterproof and their customer service was appalling ("It's out of warranty so we can't help you" effectively...) It's been replaced by a Canon D10 (which has now been superseded by the D20 IIRC) which takes better pictures both above and below the water than the Olympus did and is easier to use. Spare batteries are easy to find - mine came from 7dayshop. My Canon is rated to 10m depth so is fine for snorkelling and should be OK for kayaking.

Thanks, do you have any links to any photos you have taken with the camera?

Don't think I have any online I'm afraid. We're off on hols again later this week so I'll try to remember to take a couple at high ISO and post them.

I am loving my Nikon AW110 very nice, and off the kayak I took some 180 and 360' Pano's and they came out far better than I thought
