Best car choices?

How about a Shogun.

07 model looks great. VED does not. Why don't we become 51st state and have cheap motoring?!

I think you need to go out into the real world and drive some :) stop reading those paper specs and looking at pictures. It will soon become clear :)

But hey if you honestly like the CRV go for one. I don't agree it fits with your original requirements but hey your rules and you can bend them :)

Do you still take that list so seriously? :) auto is the one that will be painful to bend...

I will certainly need to test a few before I actually consider parting with cash

You can't. Just get an automatic as then you know that not only it wasn't over revved, but also you know it wasn't driven with unnecessary load on it. Towing per se doesn't have to be bad for a vehicle, I'd be more concerned about a low mileage example.

Can you not just move the stick to manual mode and tow with pleasure? That's what I've done with retal Kia suv in the us, because engine and gearbox were so poor. Effectively I've driven tat around red line a lot of the time so it could match Las Vegas traffic

LOL I guess so, fair point....As I prefer large engines I guess I'm not worried about that. Heck my GL ticks over at around 1500 revs when doing 90mph....When towing the boat or horse box it is just not noticeable....

Maybe that is the key, get one where the engine isn't under powered so you don't have that concern...But to be honest, I did have my Navara remapped as I did find a flat spot between 1500 to about 2000 revs which was annoying when launching my boat. Especially when using the front tow bar. That sorted it as well.

Just get the Touareq V10 TDI and that concerns will go away...

VED seems to drastically increase for 06+ reg cars. So that would leave '05 and older lumps, or something more frugal. Hopefully insurance can be dealt with as I'd end up with 2 cars at least for a little while. Ideally SUV + Audi TT 3.0TDI convertible in the end :)

V10 sounds just incredible to own.

Go for it :) your know you'd want too :p

Or how about a Lambo LM002 I still want one of those :)
