This will probably bring out different ideas, and that is a good thing.

The requirements are:

1. SUV
2. Diesel, ideally pre-DPF, or known to be "safe" choice. A bit of black smoke on demand is OK, just no dead turbos
3. Preferably Auto box
4. Very rugged, damage proof, 0-star pedestrian NCAP rating.
5. Luxurious interior
6. Comfortable ride, but reasonable handling ability
7. Looks menacing to other road users
8. Good for sleeping in when camping. I absolutely hate tents.
9. Well under £10k and obviously used.
10. No known serious problems with that model.
11. Flood proof would be bonus in case I visit Somerset next spring for some photos.

Number 7, what's that all about? Got a small willy?

Don't worry, I think I just worked this out. I just need to install a few extra headlights on the roof. That easily covers night driving, maybe even daytime. Maybe also a US style chimney exhaust.

I suspect that the OP is extracting rather a large quantity of urine, from a few other posters and thread post's ;)

I hope there is an adequate supply of nappies then :)

We have a large store room behind the staff room.
Its full of dummies, both spares and used "spat" ones.
There is also a stock of nappies, in all sizes.

The least you could have done is saved this for friday night!! Tch :p

BMW x5 4.4i.

The v8 roar scares micra driving fossils into a heart attack as you thunder past. The xenon lights as you drive right on their bumper flashing them because they are a midget car driving oik gives them fear and induced epilepsy. Diesels are for those that can't afford petrol. They are slow. This is fast.

Good quiet cars too. 130mph cruising is very easy. Fuel consumption is prodigious but you drive this to feel powerful and rich, not because you care about polar bears or the Netherlands flooding. Your car is made in Germany that won't flood so it's irrelevant. A trip to Somerset to lord it over the impoverished Honda drivers - easy. The car will handle Glasgow in winter, it'll handle that. Babe magnet too. Shagging in an X5 is great...

Rugged too if you hit a child speeding through town, yeah the paint might scratch just a bit but the way the bonnet slopes the blood washes off without having to go to the jet wash, hose is just fine.

Mind the grill, eyeballs and hair get stuck in there so find one with the factory fit bull bar.

Only problem is that when you take them off-road it will hide behind a tree and weep whilst the others play :p

Babe magnet? You mean fanny magnet? Most of them are driven by fannies:p

So where do you get that for "well under £10K" ?

Proper clunge machine - not as good a clunge magnet as the e320 but not bad .

People really embrace 4x4s these days :)

Clunge magnet? You wouldn't know one if it wiped itself on your chin without an hourly invoice. :-)

Thinking back to some of your previous posts about cars and driving, how about a Foxhound or a Humvee? Should also solve the problems with potholes and kerbs...

;)

X5 are nice but BMW wheels seem to cling to brake dust were other cars don't. I clean one every month and the wheels never come up very well with a basic wheel clean (which is what I do in my intermediate), whereas the wheels of the discovey I do the same day every month do. Even if I do a deep clean on the they still don't come up with a basic clean the next month. Not that that would be the desider for which car you buy ;)

Get an older discovery. Or I recently had a customer with an Isuzu trooper on a 53 plate who recons its the must nuts.
The interior is pretty drab though. I think it still has sliders for the climate control ;) likewise with an older disco, and you need to do a Fred Flinstone to get it moving. So so sluggish. In my opinion.

I don't know if you can get one for under 10,000 but if you get an L200 with a cover on the back you can sleep in it no probs, another customer has the barbarian and its really nice, and it looks 'menacing'. The 'boot' on his is carpeted and the cab has leather seats and loads of toys.

I'm after a smaller car for town use - that looks just the job!!!

It's been a while I admit. But without the pulling power of my expensive powerful cars I don't have the magnetism I once had.

Can I borrow your jaguar?
surely you can just buy a set of old keys from ebay to then throw in that bowl on the table in the lounge of the house at the end of the cup-de-sac...

Bend me over and call me Sally!!!!!

That's a bril idea
Hi Sally ;) Would you like to check out my big Merc, or do you prefer my little 2.0L Turbo hyper hatch :P

Doesn't meet all your requirements but what about a vw transporter 4motion then convert it into a camper?

A few years ago, I was looking at an ad for one of the BMW X? Paris-Dakar cars. Under the X skin, it was a Discovery.

Sub 10 grand, I would go for a Discovery and use the change to keep it going properly!
