it is up as public and works as my son has seen it who lives some distance away.

I was stationed there when was up and in use, never been back since it was pulled down. One day I'll go back and see Berlin as it should be

The Topography of Terror (where this is shot) is an interesting location and exhibition (although don't believe everything the tour guides say about it), we'd avoided it for our first couple of visits to Berlin as it sounded rather sensationalist and there are some rather trashy cash-in tourist traps in Berlin. When we did go we were very moved reading the exhibits, and this year I've read an interesting piece on the movement behind it's creation as a temporary display before getting permanent status. We were back in the city a week ago, probably our sixth or seventh visit. Whilst we were there we caught the Martin Romers exhibition at the DHM, a few years ago he tracked down the last untouched/original section of the wall not artificially preserved as a memorial. He found it somewhere on the Bavarian border.

I went there last year (first time since 1982 - no VoPos to wave at this time!) and thought the Topography of Terror exhibit was interesting, not least because it's on the site of what was Prinz Albrechtstrasse, the Gestapo and SS headquarters.

I thought Checkpoint Charlie was a bit of a letdown, with long-haired students dressed up (badly) as soldiers charging tourists for photos.

Another interesting location to visit is the Bendler Block, where von Stauffenberg and others were executed for the Valkyrie plot. There's a small museum and memorial. My hotel was directly opposite so an easy visit! The building is still part of the German Ministry of Defence.
