The weeks leading up to Christmas are always full of parties and as such people drinking a fair bit. Its good to see the emphasis here not only on drivers driving above the limit, but a message to padestrians that their safety is at risk too by being sloshed as they can walk in front of cars, fall victim to crime.

Have fun but stay safe.

So Kent is beating Glasgow at drinking? All those years of smuggling are finally paying off.

is it wrong that i LOL'd at:

"In total, 21% of people contacted by researchers across the UK said they had walked home after consuming eight drinks of more."

The other 79% flew home.. :D

(edited for more LOLs)

And how many drunks get bitten on the way home? I think we should be told. ;)

Dogs 'more aggressive'

Aggression in dogs is rising due to a lack of training, socialisation and exercise, a report suggests.
Almost a third (32%) of people in Scotland have been bitten or attacked by a dog, according to the PAW report from vet charity PDSA.

The study also found that about six in ten (59%) people north of the border know someone who has been attacked by a dog.

Hmm. Confirms what I have experienced. When it says attack though, to be fair its quite wide reaching, from a little nip to a full blooded mauling. But there is no doubt, dogs can be a significant menace and are a source of my outrage. Too many bad dogs, too many bad owners doesn't make a good reciepe.

I know this is off topic but those figures have to be wrong.

32% of people have been attacked. 59% KNOW somebody who has been attacked. If we assume that people know themselves (i.e. if you've been attacked you also know somebody who has been attacked - you) then each person who has been attacked is known by less than 1 other person. Unless lots of people are keeping these attacks quiet then that has to be nonsense.

Also, 32% attacked? REALLY?

I want to see the raw data ;)

Even I thought it would be a little high, but what constitutes an attack?

Glasgows terrifying, I am glad I am not in Kent to witness what thats like come closing time

Nah it's lovely here. Couple of dodgy areas (um, the Island...) but far less scary than Leicester Square of an evening.

Wouldn't it be better to just ban alcohol altogether?
Yes. If alcohol was introduced now, as a new range of products, its possession and use would be criminalised.

So are we.

Fraggle Rock?
Bad any time of any day

Because I find drunkeness and loutishness unacceptable, despicable and antsocial and hope something is done about it.

No....because you'd happily ban entirely, a substance enjoyed by the vast majority in moderation, simply because of the actions of the minority; and more importantly because you had a drink problem you assume everyone else has one / will get one too.

Let @POAH answer the question and speak for himself. There's also a significant minorty creating problems for others. Its why gun laws were tighted, but for the one actions of one loon ball, gun ownership is now virtually impossible.

Here's an interesting point of view. Given the effects of alcholol its as least as problematic as class B or C drugs.

ST4 Have you ever thought about therapy as there really doesn't seem to be much that you are tolerant of ? You certainly seem to like dragging thread off topic and airing some pretty bigoted views!

I started the thread to raise awareness about personal safety and excess alcohol consumption.

What's bigoted about that. Please explain?

So how did dogs gert dragged into it and a rant against gun control?

I didn't post about dogs and the "rant" about gun control was an analogy to Ruth's post saying removing alcohol would spoil things for the majority of drinkers. However, severe gun controls were put in place as a hysterical knee jerk to one lunatics shooting in a school meaning many law abiding gun owners had to give up their fire arms.

The minority always have an effect on the majority and to protect the majority from the minority sometimes the majority will need to face some inconvenience, for their greater good.

When did someone last blow anyone away with a pint of Stella?

People that drink lots of alcohol can become violent and aggressive whilst under the influence, never mind the risks to their own health. It's why it should be consumed extremely moderately.

Nicely off topic but the gun laws are a great analogy and IMHO the sooner they're relaxed so normal law abiding people who enjoy guns can, the better.

im hungover but that makes no sense.

tighter alcohol laws so that people cannot harm each other and themselves.

relaxed gun control so that people can harm each other and themselves.

eh?

You are totally right that its a free country and moderation is required- but then you get the lunatics running the asylum - look at the American right to bear arms! as soon as controls are suggested there is a backlash, but without controls chaos ensues
