i think his comments are very funny, and he clearly says his comments in jest, maybe with a hint of sarcasm, and i think its great that he has the balls to say what he does and stick 2 fingers up to pompous, self righteous, do gooder's who take offense to absolutely everything.

and a lot of the time he just says what everyone else is thinking but don't have the knackers to say it.

.... but I'm absolutely convinced they are very carefully orchestrated to sail close to the wind and court controversy rather than personal opinion.
I think you are right also ;)

I don't think Mexicans are lazy, feckless or flatulent. If I did, it would be because it was so... and therefore I'd have no problem with saying it. Just as a feel that the asian communities here in the north west are partly responsible for the recism they receive. That's not a racist comment, nor is it in any way condoning the EDL or Britain First movement. It's an observation. There are two sides to every story though. They close ranks for security. Still... someone has to break the deadlock, and the EDL et al are far to stupid and ignorant to be the ones to do it, so it stands to reason that the Asian communities up here actually have a course of action they coudl take. However.. the equally ignorant Asian youths merely respond with equal stupidity.

Racism is truly universal.

You can't honestly speak for me though Ricky.... you just can't. I agree with a LOT of what Clarkson says, but I'm definitely NOT with him on the racist comments. To laugh at a comment that says a Mexican car would be feckless, lazy, flatulent and wearing a moustache is not funny unless you find fun in mocking other people based on what they look like, and blatantly untrue stereotypes. You find them funny because you are ignorant. Ignorant in this context does not mean stupid, or thick.. but in the literal sense.

Incidentally I love the way we complain loudly in a united voice of nationalistic vigour when other countries make fun of us based on stereotypes. The Daily Mail do a particularly fine line in hypocrisy in this field.

David, you're talking into a strong wind. I agree with every single word you wrote but as has been demonstrated in this and another recent thread, if you are white you cannot, by definition and biology, be offended by racism.

I fear that you're right.

clarkson was clearly using a "stereotype" as a joke, and we all use stereo types and have a laugh at the expense of the stereo type.

for instance.....

everyone knows the stereo types of essex people, and me coming from essex, when i speak to friends up north etc we have a laugh at our expense, the same as people take the mick out of welsh people because of the stereo type etc etc etc,

taking the mick out of a car using a stereo type, was imo funny, i understand some people may not think it was funny, but it was hardly clarkson being racist now was it.

as for being ignorant.... i suppose in a way you are right, i tend to turn a blind eye to seeing silly jokes as racist, maybe i'm just to laid back,

i don't agree with being racist, but sometimes common sense must prevail, and we can clearly define whether some one is being intently malicious or just fooling around.

You're speaking for me again Ricky. In fact.. you're speaking on behalf of everyone. You can't do that and retain any credibility.

Complete b*ll*cks.

Nope if you are white you have a perfect right to be offended by racism directed at you (any race can be discriminated against), you can also be appalled by racists abuse handed out to other races , what you can't (or at least shouldn't) do is get offended on behalf of someone from another race who is not themselves offended by a remark

in the case at hand the burmese citizen (or is myanmarian the PC term) didnt appear offended - and tbh they probably paid him to walk across the bridge at that point so the clarkson could deliver the scripted line.

no i'm not speaking for anyone, i am speaking my views,

bit of a difference there, i am saying i dont see what he said as wrong and then giving an example as to why i dont see what he said was wrong.

no once did i say i was speaking on behalf of the general public.

are you trying to pull me into an argument for speaking my view?

I believe he refers to the level/slant/slope of the bridge, not the person on it. No racism did take place and I doubt BBC would risk racism on their tv like that. IMHO it is as simple as that.

To be honest it was clearly pitched as a double etendre by the script writers - which may be wasnt sensible , but its hardly sufficient to paint clarkson as a rabid racist of the "if they're black send em back, if they're brown send them down" school of thought

I think David meant this line, where you are clearly speaking on behalf of everyone.

I agree - i virtually wet my strides when i see kenwood, and matsiu stickers in the back of cars - as if having a cheap arse stereo is something to be proud of ;)

ok, i dont really get that,

can anyone honestly say they don't use stereo types? was what i should have written

as above i use stereo types when taking the p*** out of poor AV choices - I try not to use sterotypes (apart from 'barry' ) if i can help it

exactly pete,

that was my point,

in my personal opinion everyone uses a stereotype as a means of getting a laugh at some point,

but this is my opinion, i am NOT speaking on behalf of the people, i am speaking on behalf of my personal views, not the views of those and others around me.

I think that Whooooooooooosh in some instances.
But I appriciated the joke :D

How can anyone actually like this buffoon, yes the program is slightly entertaining, but how do you not see through Clarkson, do you really believe that is how he is in his every day life, he is neighbours and friends with leading politicians, do you think this is how he acts when hosting dinner party's for the politicians.

Strangely enough yes he does, and he's entertaining, which is why the politicians and newspaper editors love him.

I find it offensive that you arent offended on his behalf - this a clear case of racism as he's scottish and i'm sure you'd have been offened on his behalf if he was english !!!! *storms off the write to the complaints commision*

I'm British and proud :)

that must mean your a racist then... you're saying that we're better than everyone else , blah blah blah etc ( I was once told that wearing a St George cross t shirt made me a racist... its strange how this logic doesnt extend to the irish on st patricks day)

I find that every true. Well off on a Tangent Rangers were critised for playing in sectarian colours (orange) under Dick Advocatt, but this wasn't leveled at celtic who play in green/white (Irish colours). Football doesn't even interest me, but I find it strange Orange marches are seen as negative but not the St Paddies days one. Hypocrisy, quite probably.

National days celebrating British pride are treated as right wing looney days but not St Patricks. I am not Irish so will not celebrate St Paddies, but feel comfortable celebrating St Davids, St Andrews and St Georges.

If you have an issue with 'Casual' racism, then stop being racist!
In being patronising towards other people and assuming insult where there is none taken, you are treating us differently, and assuming we are not capable of speaking for ourselves. I find what you keep spouting racist, ergo it is racist. In that sense you cannot say what the F** you like.

someone has to be

seconds to someone reportiing this post as racist 10, 9, 8, 7....

Going a bit OT i think the reason the orange marches in NI are seen as nehative as they do have a tendency to try to march down the falls road and the like... okay so yes they have a right to freeexpression but i can't help thinking they are going looking for trouble. The Irish paddies day marches don't generally truy to march up the shanklin (although i they did they'd have a similar courting trouble aim in mind )

What about the ones in Glasgow.

Get this, in 2012 someone in my work didn't want to buy their grand child an olympics team gb top as it was too rangers supporter. Bonkers.

lol

as someone famous (I can't recall who ) said " I find it currious that those who campaign against intollerance and proffess tolerance for all, have so little for those that disagree with them"

I don't know much about the glesgah ones - but i'd suspect the desire to cause a ruck is similar - what's a friday night without too much beer, a good fight, and a deep fried haggis on the way home [/regional stereotype]

Porridge on the morning on the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond in our kilts. You gest!!!!

that was animals, and it was spoken by the pigs (not the dibble - actual pigs ) ;)

comrade napolean is always right - I will work harder

The pigs were smart. I won't rise to the dibble comment, I might be accused of being policiest or dibblist...
Or even fireman-ist (before 20 seconds) :D
