Not sure if this should go in here, or in the discussion area, as it's a bit of a discussion I suppose?...possibly answered my own question there.

Anyway, battery grips. I'm looking at getting one in the near future, possibly after a flashgun, possibly before one, i've not decided yet.....

So, as I normally do, I started having a read about battery grips etc and generally getting a good idea of how they function, benifits etc ( I knew the basics).

I'll be getting the BG-E2N for the 40D, as i'm sure you're all aware of the models etc.

I know a battery grip isn't there to look pritty, and that it's their to do a job, but I cant help but be niggled at by the way it fits to the 40D. I noticed the grip just cuts off on the left hand side of the camera (looking at it from the rear) to follow the line of the side of the camera, which leaves you with a rather noticeable triangular gap on the side.

Please tell me someone else has spotted this, and wondered why they didn't make it fit a bit more snug?

I never thought i'd say this, being a 'Canon-till-i-die' sort of person, but the grip for the Nikon D300 that I randomly looked at is FAR better in terms of fitting the camera. It kinda bows, and arcs up at either side so that the corners of the camera sit snugly in it, which makes it look a lot neater.

Urgh, I feel dirty now...

Straight outta' left field...

Now if you compare that to the Nikon D300 grip below...

...The D300 grip looks to have a much nicer fit.

I've got the grip for the 5D and it looks ok.

Who cares what it looks like if it fits and works,I use a grip on my 350D because the camera on its own is to small. The grip is a functional piece of kit not an artistic one

Which is why I put in my first post about it not being there to make the camera look pritty.

the 400D grip makes the smallish camera look the business, the part on the left of the picture is the important side and is molded to the hand the other side is not seamless but not bad looking either

i think it fits others as wel.

i have a grip onmy D80 and it is so strange shooting without it, or evening using a camera without one.
they just make the handling so much more comfotable, i find my palm keeps touching the other suttter realease button which can be a tad annoying!

on another note i really dont understand why they cost so much!!.

im getting a d300 soon and the grip for that is £230 from warehouse express, and then you have by an extra battery, why are they so expensive?

all camera excesories are just disgustingly expensive. and im sure they take advantage of us!
